TITLE:DYNAMICS AND PHENOMENOLOGY OF THE AGA SYNDROME (RAW 7) PALETTE:0223 0778 0898 0b89 3 DYNAMICS AND PHENOMENOLOGY OF THE AGA SYNDROME: GENERAL CONCERNS 2 Keywords: AGA Syndrome; Sheep-Tendency; Scener's Psychology 3INTRODUCTION The decision of Commodore Inc. to invade international markets with a new range of home computers of the Amiga family has provoked unexpected and worrying consequences among some users, specifically of the genre we are more interested in, the sceners. Weight and gravity of the relative pathologies will be pondered only in future days, with a better and more detached knowledge of the dynamics and the influences of informatics' consumes on the lives of informatics' consumers. One of the most evident, diffused and all in all risible diseases has been the 2AGA SYNDROME FOR FRUSTRATED SCENERS1, which basically is the state of pathology due to the impossibility of having the desired AGA machine and to the consequent preoccupation of missing some new AGA demos. Perusing in old books and asking the wrong questions to the right persons, we have realised that actually the whole history of humanity is signed by similar syndromes who had a specifically different cause but similar effects. The brightest evidence of their existence stays in the not so famous Kallios' poems, look in the references for more details. Needless to remind and underline once more, anyway, how more easily the simple minded average and innocent scener can be affected by the disease, which actually is proved 2(Baldacchino et at., 1994)1 to be particularly evil with subjects of overall low IQ. and pretty feeble will. This phenotype is typical of the scener (as 2Brau1 has demonstrated in various issues), who, even if cosmopolitan and well spread around the planet's surface, lives especially in the northern regions of Europe. The general relation blond hair - blue eyes - scene positive is actually an accepted Genetics dogma 2(Mendel, 1876)1, as recent studies 2(Dulbecco, 1993)1 have confirmed. 3METHODS AND INSTRUMENTS In order to churn out powerful results with glimpses of reality, we have proceeded in our research with rigorous methods which by no way can be criticised or blamed and for this reason we have democratically decided that what we are relating here is true and perfect, in any case. All the results were computed with a SHARP EL-345A solar cells calculator and verified with hand calculations, the experiments and the data collection has last a period which can be quantified in 2 hours or less, the identity of the persons interviewed or interrogated will be published in future issues, even if we assured total and loyal anonymity. We consider this a clever and fair move to spandimerda who has collaborated with their replies, we are going to reveal their names to assure certain and unequivocal annihilation of the subjects who have proved directly how diffused is the AGA syndrome. We strongly believe, in fact, that the best cure for this disease is to eliminate the subjects affected by it. The research has proceeded in a very complex and tricky way which is impossible to describe entirely here. More or less, anyway, we have asked some questions to our subjects and we have collected their replies. In order to promote the participation of the public we have also promised a brand new AGA machine to a lucky winner. That has been also a deep and clever move to raise more information about the symptoms which reveal the first steps of the AGA syndrome in the Full-And Destructive-Pathological-Form. We just have to remind that actually no AGA machine was given away at the end of the work and it has been a motive of personal joy and satisfaction to see the faces of the sceners fooled by our dirty joke. 3SOME HISTORICAL NOTES Mysteriously enough the first case of AGA syndrome has occurred even before the official release of AGA machines. The subject presented all the classical symptoms. The first morphological changes have been in his face, even more pale than usual, soon followed by a devastating thirst (placated with Malibu' and Coke) which was just the prologue to the usual 2Aga-or-Suicide1 condition. At this stage there wasn't much to do in order to save him, the best solution would have been to help and advice him on the best way to perform his suicide but at those times informations about the syndrome were quite incomplete 2(Miner 21990, one of the first articles about the topic)1. The real big bang of our syndrome has occurred some years later, quite surprisingly just in correspondence with the emission on the market of AGA machines. We could show you many graphs and tables describing the exact proportions of the spreading, but this mag doesn't support an accurate graph mode and therefore we are compelled to impose limitations to our interesting exposition. If you are annoyed by this and if you think that this article would be nicer with some pictures, well, go to complain to Lord Helmet and tell him to choose a decent coder, in the next occasion 2(check the book "Perplex: Life and (bad) works" by 2Macno for the complete biography of the coder)1. In particular we feel the unforgivable absence of Macintosh's Kaleida Graph files support in the code of Raytraced Animated Writings. Back to us, even without our complex graphs we can more or less describe the diffusion curve of the disease. It followed an exponential growth in a first phase, where more and more sceners started to realise the possibility of having AGA demos and not being able to see them. A second phase, which is the one currently ongoing, features a slow but constant decrease in the found cases, evident sign that many sceners prefer to buy an AGA machine instead of committing suicide for the AGA syndrome. The projections for the future are quite good, the AGA syndrome cases will decrease constantly, for the curious fact that people affected will be already dead and people not affected will have bought2 (check Adams' "Mostly harmless" 2for the grammatical acknowledgement of this verb)1 an AGA machine. Don't worry anyway, we are confident that Commodore is going to release at the right time a new range of machines with better features that will cause various interesting and devastating calamities probably similar to the one studied here. 3GEOGRAPHICAL INCIDENCE Various studies have been promoted in order to quantify the incidence of the syndrome on the world's population with particular references to the local realities. From the immense bunch of data we had gathered directly in our researches and from the additional contribution of the various literature (the volume "AGA syndrome in the world" is the official bible concerning this subject) we have been able to point out two basic factors which influence dynamics and incidence of the disease of the century. All the information gathered have shown that the syndrome is more diffused in the countries where the number of Amiga users is larger and where the influences of the consumistic mentality is more deeply rooted in the consumers' mind. Some examples may demonstrate better the complex concepts we are trying to explain. In Scandinavian countries the AGA syndrome is a diffused and epidemic disease, here, in fact, the high number of Amiga users is accompanied to a well established consumistic culture and to the particularly advanced sensitivity towards the demo scene (as we have explained the AGA syndrome is consequence especially to the frustration of not being able to see AGA demos). In countries like Italy the incidence is less, even if the number of Amigas is relatively high and the consumistic mania is diffused, the syndrome is not so spread due to the relatively low interest towards demo scene, as even2 Curzolo has been able to notice (1993). A particular case is the USA scene, where consumistic levels are maximum but nobody has an Amiga and nobody of these nobody is interested in demos. The situation in East Europe countries is curious too. Here the Amiga syndrome is quite spread among C64 users and the AGA syndrome has not yet reached interesting proportions. We are confident anyway that in few years it will reach interesting figures. 3SOCIOLOGICAL ASPECTS We have already pointed out the basic reason why we can be sure of the diffusion of the AGA syndrome. Discussions about consumistic life, never-ending search for the new products of technology, constant dissatisfaction of the actual properties and relative genesis of mental disturbs related to the impossibility of having "everything immediately" (also because this "everything" has not limits) are all well-known causes that no mentally healthy scenologist can deny. But there is more, the AGA syndrome has also more subtle and deep causes. The scener who han not an AGA machine will feel himself more and more idle and isolated. The sensation of losing the contact with the demo community is a terrible spring that causes in the mind of many sceners depression and disorientation, conditions that can lead easily to the disease. We think that the feeling of losing the contact with a certain part of the scene (AGA positive) which is going to increase in proportions is another important impulse that renders the scener even more weak and defenceless towards the illness. Psychological basis of this statement is the established and well-known "sheep tendency" of many sceners. 2Franceschi (1994)1 has already had the occasion of studying this predisposition in the collective unconscious of the scene. He has more than once explained how basically the scener is a social animal, who feels himself at his ease when he is among similar beings and when he can recognise himself as "member of the scene". The consequences of this ancestral tendency are various but they have all the same basic mechanisms. The scener alone feels himself weak, in herds (like sheep) he can gain personality and identity. The AGA syndrome has then an easy work on the scener who doesn't want to feel idle and lost, once the "group" (scene) is AGA-based, the single non-AGA scener loses self confidence and even individual power in the dynamics of the scene's fame-system, therefore he becomes more easily affected. Other consequences of the sheep tendency of the scener are countless and equally important, we just could mention the facility with which diskmags influence the scene's opinion (it's more easy to change the opinion of a group of sceners than the one of a single scener), but this is not the right time, and especially the right PLACE, to discuss this matter. 3CONCLUSIONS We have seen that the AGA syndrome is a nice reality in various countries of the world, even if it hasn't reached the dimensions and the destructivity we all long for. That's a reason why we officially invite all the demo groups to release productions AGA-only which could give a good kick to the diffusion of the disease and therefore could assure us more and better grants for our researches and our publications. Our aim is to cultivate the incubation and the spreading of the phenomenon as much as possible, using every kind of mean, in order to win at least the Nobel prize for the discovery of the antidote, which, confidentially, we already know but which, obviously, we prefer to reveal to the public at a later stage, when all the world will be eagerly and desperately waiting for it. 3REFERENCES -- Baldacchino - 2"AGA syndrome and the idiot scener"1, ROM 2, 1994; -- Brau - 2"All the evidences that the scener is an idiot"1, a book with various articles of the author on the topic, 1993; -- Curzolo - 2"Monthly thoughts"1, The Charts, 1993; -- Dulbecco - 2"The SCENE gene in human genoma"1, Genetics 142, 1993; -- Franceschi - 2"The sheep tendency in the scene"1, RAW 7, 1994; -- Kallio brothers - 2"Perkele, mete etke non sum pas enough"1, PC manuscript, Kalevala's times or before. -- Mendel - 2"Blue eyes, blond hairs, scene positive - An interesting 2recombination"1, unreleased manuscript 1876; -- Miner - 2"I made the custom chips, will they be deadly?"1, Commodore Inc. internal note, 1990; -- Various - 2"AGA syndrome in the world"1, 1742 pages book, 1993.
