$ffaHere  I have dug up some ancient computer mags, to see what was going on
at  the  time.   I'll try not to be too nostalgic, but if you don't like
that kind of thing, then go away.  Or something.

If  you  can  do  better with older mags then maybe we could make this a
regular feature.  No, perhaps it is not *that* exciting.  I've got older
mags, but I can't be arsed going up in the loft right now to get them.

News  of  the new "Super PC" the Amstrad 1512 is leaked.  It features an
8086  cpu  at 8Mhz, GEM and MSDOS 3.2.  Top of the range model sells for
£649 with twin 360K 5.25in disk drives, 512K of RAM (upgradable to 640K)
16 color 640x200 graphics and a colour monitor.

"Transatlantic  Link  For  Micros  Opened"  The first permanent realtime
UK-USA  link offers a host of possibilities to subscribers "from playing
realtime games to participating in over 40 special interest groups"

International  Karate,  one  of Archer McLean's early atempts gets 8/10,
and  Rescue  on  Fractalus,  by  Lucas  Arts,  distant  ancestor  to Tie
Fighter(?), also gets 8/10

AMX Mouse - Only £70!

"World  Domination  By Friday ...for only £79.95" Says the ad for a 1200
bps  modem.   Features  include direct spooling of downloads to cassette
tape.

"Now  they  are  100  times more usefull" Network your Amstrads together
with  a  20  megabyte  hard  disk at the core.  Shows lots of very 1980s
secretaries typing away on green screens.
 
Subscribe  to Microlink, the UKs only service provider.  Enjoy E-Mail,
Bulletin  Boards,  "Teleshopping" and Local call access, all for just £3
per month.  Though you have to pay by the byte for email overseas.

Overall:

Drab  "computer  hobbyist" mag full of code listings, machine code, text
adventures and database reviews.

The  Bitmap Brothers photographed to promote Speedball 2.  They look fat
and middle aged.  The mag describes it as "a Littlewoods catalogue pose"

People phoning the "Myth" helpline have instead being getting through to
"a  rather  irate  old  gent who knows nothing at all about chopping the
heads of Gorgons"

Rumours of a hand held Sega.
                            
The  Atari  Lynx is released at £150 "Makes
you  mouth  positively water, don't it!" says the mag.  Erm, but its the
size  of  a  breeze block, the batteries last all of 10 minutes, and you
said "Atari"

Best  game  -  Midwinter,  ST,  96%.   Worst  game  -  Chomp!  (goldfish
simulator), C64, 22%

services.  And all yours for just £10,095!!!

Reviews:

386 peecee clones.

Photoshop  2  is  reviewed in the Apple section, next to DPaint 4 in the
Amiga  section.   Photoshop  2  is  vastly  superior,  but then DPaint 4
doesn't need 4 megs of free ram and a massive scratch disk to run.
