Repton is, quite simply, >the best< boulderdash clone on any platform.
I have tried all the Amiga versions, but Repton beats them hands down.

Repton is the little lizard bloke you control. He's green, and he can go
up, down, left and right. Hey, he can dig earth, get diamonds and push
rocks too! On later levels keys, maps, safes, and monster eggs are also
to be found.

Just incase you were brought up on some cruddy diet of Segatendo,
"Boulderdash" invloves collecting all of the diamonds on a level, by
cleverly digging earth and pushing boulders so as not to block any in.

I think the secret of Repton's amazing playability lies in the clever
arangement of puzzles scattered across each level. The difficulty curve
is spot on today, as it was when I was 7. I have to admit, it was not
until last year that I managed to complete the game's 16 or so levels.

The monsters were scarce, but vicious, however, they were designed to be
overcome by inginuity, not arcade keyboard bashing thuggery.

The game featured a password system to gain access to each level.
Luckily though, all the passwords were names of reptiles, so they were
easily guessed.

The only bummers had to be the 10 minutes loading time through an
ancient "Realistics" tape recorder borrowed of my gran, twiddling  with
the big silver tone and volume knobs on top, to try and get it to work.
Also you had to try and fast forward to the right place on the tape.

The graphics were okay, nice and colourfull, and the only sound effect
was a little jingle at the start of a level. "Bloopy bloopy bloopy
bloopy bloopy-bloop-bloop bloop bloop bloop blooooop." if I remember
correctly.

There were also many sequels to Repton, especially on the BBC Micro. I
never played them though :(
