422 RIDGE RACER V DAYTONA USA ok so I might of got carried away with singing the praises for daytona in the WORD 3 but it is only MY opinion.... so here is a bit of a run down on some of the points of RIDGE RACER and DAYTONA USA.... GEARS N THINGS -------------- RIDGE RACER -- SIX speed manual or automatic and proper pedals (clutch, break and accelertor . sound familiar) . movable seat, for people with bloody long legs . DAYTONA -- FOUR speed manual or automatic but no clutch just break and accelertor (don't use break much anyway) . movable seat like ridge racer . GRAPHICS -------- RIDGE RACER fast and colourful but when you get close to the sides it tends to go slighty blocky , also when you go through the mountain bit the sides are smooth even through the gfx's look like rough rock texture . nice effect when the sun sets and the jumbo jet comes in to land ,though. DAYTONA faster than the above and seems more colourful (but it probably isn't just the way it's drawn and sega should know how to get maximum effect) . The sides of these mountains ARE rough and don't just look it , when you go through the tunnel on the 2nd track you can see daylight through the sides and this is reflected on to your car as you go by . even the pit crew are very detailed , try to find these in ridge racer MUSIC N SFX ----------- RIDGE RACER pick between SIX different songs at the start of the race a bloody voice that keeps on saying " THERE'S SOMEBODY ON YOUR TAIL" oo-er ....it might also say " LAST LAP " ( not sure as I haven't played it in while not since u know what arrived.... DAYTONA no songs to pick , just one tune for each track , these piss on ridge racer from a great height , if they were on cd i'd buy it right away (hint,hint sega) . it also has quite a lot of samples though like " YOUR DOING GREAT " , " TAKE IT LOW AT TURN 3 " AND " TRY TO STAY LOW IN THE TURNS ", just like the pit crew talking to u through headphones....( it makes a change to hear long samples don't u think ) NEW DESIGNS ETC --------------- RIDGE RACER nothing really new apart from the one with the 30ft screen , same game different screen and a full size sports car to sit in (a mazda mx 5 I think ) but it doesn't move or nowt and at a huge price of 3 quid yes 3 QUID a go u would think it would .... (see it at skegness now) oh i've heard rumours about ridge racer 2 but no game spec has yet.... DAYTONA 8 player link up , new sounds , different gfx's etc . 2 player side by side , smaller screens , smaller machines and a cheaper price not the same feel to it though... FINAL WORDS ----------- Why don't namco leave racing games to the big boys (SEGA) coz they will beat them every time ..... I will still only play daytona until something better comes along like daytona 2 maybe....remember this is my opinion oh by the way I have got to first place on the first track nothing different from places 2 n 3 though at the end best lap --- 17.30 secs total time - 2.22.11 mins I know this doesn't go into great detail but I am too busy to write any more.....
