|2-SATANISM |1-A QUESTION OF BELIEF The state of witchcraft, occultism and satanism as world movements, no exaggeration, overstatement or silly claims were necessary. The facts speak for themselves. It exists. It is growing, and certain aspects are indeed very, very ugly and disturbing. |1-And yet... In the stirrings of fundamentalism as the world heads towards the last years of the second millennium, which Christian evangelists believe will be marked by the Second Coming, we are seeing the resurgence of a Holy War that has existed since the beginning of the first year after the death of Christ. The battleground as always is the views held by non-believers and more especially the opposers of Christ, the dreaded worshippers of Satan, Lucifer and other leading lights of the underworld. Battle commenced in earnest in the spring of 1986 when 400 leaders of evangelist movements from around the world met in California to begin formalization of their campaign to convert twenty million people to Christianity by the year 2000. It was part of the worldwide Christian Decade of Evangelism which was to begin in 1990, to which the satanic movement replied instantly with its own Decade of Vengeance. It was rapidly joined by most other groups in the left hand-side of the occult movement. Punch and counterpunch began to delivered almost immediately. I can quote from this sample, sent to me in one of the satanic magazines I acquired for research: "DECADE OF EVANGELISM,OR DECADE OF VANDALISM... THESE PEOPLE MEAN BUSINESS... NOBODY IS SAFE...THEY ARE CUNNING AND CLEVER. THESE POWERFUL POLITICO EVANGELICAL GROUPS, EMANATING FROM THE USA, HAVE ONE AIM IN MIND: TOTAL WORLD DOMINATION VIA AN IRON GRIP ON THEOCRACY... THESE WICKED PEOPLE HAVE SUBVERTED INSTITUTIONS AND FAMOUS CHARITIES EVERYWHERE AND ARE SETTING CULTURES AGAINST EACH OTHER WITH THEIR FANATICISM...." The pamphlet was filled with anti-Christian vitriol and was widely circulated albeit only to occultists. Similar attacks on the evangelist movements have been printed in pretty well every occult magazine I have seen in the past 18 months, hundreds in number. Meanwhile, in Britain, an organization calling itself the Evangelical Alliance was formed to fight the devil and his disciples and can be seen to have promoted a massive campaign which highlighted many alleged incidences of child abuse, sacrificial rites and terrible cases of sadistic torture during Black Mass ceremonies. Elsewhere, powerful, cash-rich Christian groups in America began their own extensive lobbying and the weight of the Roman Catholic Church was added to the international campaign when, in 1987,t he Holy See began preparing its own review of Satan past and present, inspiring debates and conversations on the theological issues surrounding the Prince of Darkness. This followed a message sent by the Pope to the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Robert Runcie, stating that he believed the devil's hand was behind today's increasingly hedonistic values. ^30^40 "It is not a myth that the devil appeared to St Anthony," Pope John Paul II told a Polish friend. "I too have seen his evil grin." But perhaps the most crucial development, highlighted by individual members of the Evangelist Alliance, had surfaced even before that organization was officially formed. In the sixties and seventies, the devil was more likely to have been discovered living in the bodies of pre-pubescent children and thus highly melodramatic tales of exorcism surfaced with regularity. That was until a succession of mass murderers like the Yorkshire Ripper, Peter Sutcliffe, and the American serial killer, Richard Ramirez, known as the Night Stalker, were said to have been guided by the voice of the devil. There were deeper implications too. Ramirez had a pentagram tattooed on the palm of his hand and shouted "Hail Satan!" when he left court. Other mass killers in America claimed membership of satanic groups, and the British originated Process Church was often mentioned as being the provider of a belief system which appeared to give permission for murder, since Satan existed as the final executioner and the administrator of the final judgement. One other famous case was that of David Berkowitz, who became known as The Son of Sam Killer, responsible for six murders and six attempts. Long after his conviction and imprisonment in 1977, he revealed in letters to a Californian priest that he had been a member of an occult group which pursued "a mixture of satanic practices which included the teachings of the most wicked man on earth Aleister Crowley. He eventually identified the group as an offshoot of the Process Church of Final Judgement, based in New York. Power? It sounds ambitious, even ridiculous but also MENACING......... Coming soon......... More on the worldwide subject of Satanism with stories from Norway about Black Metal rock bands and the links with Satanism. By KOFFIN BLOOD OF THE SYNDICATE 15/06/95
