Amiga 500, 1000, or 200 cpu. Kickstart 1.2 (Already in 500 & 2000 at power up). 512K Chip Memory (With at least 410K available at power up). 512K Fast Memory (With at least 400K available at power up). Video Monitor (500 & 2000 will require RGB encoder). The following components are optional to operate Pro Video Plus. Additional Fast Memory for loading picture (512K or more). 2nd disk drive for more convenient disk operations. RGB Monitor for sharper working images. Video genlock device for system operation. NOTE ON MEMORY The first 512K of 'FAST' memory usually sold with the Amiga 5090 (i.e. the 501 memory option) and the Amiga 2000 is not true fast ram. Depending on what other equipment you have connected to your Amiga, Pro Video Plus may not operate properly with this memory in place. The problem appears as a random jump in the video display most noticeable during vertical screen transitions. The solution is disconnecting the additional equipment (i.e. hard drive) or removing the non true fast ram and adding true no-wait state fast ram to your system. BOOTING PRO VIDEO PLUS Pro Video Plus must be loaded after a cold reset (power-on) or warm boot (holding the CTRL key and pressing both Amiga keys simultaneously). Although Pro Video Plus may be run from any CLI environment, the only way to make sure that all memory and other Amiga resources are available to Pro Video Plus and that the necessary startup-sequence is initiated is by using one of these methods. Pro Video Plus will not load or operate from Amiga WorkBench, does not share windows with other software, and will nott multi-task with software requiring a user interface or requiring resources that which Pro Video Plus must have complete control. If you have an Amiga 100 you will need to insert the Kickstart 1.2 disk when requested to after a cold reset. After you have done this, or in the instance of a warm boot, you will see an insert WorkBench requester on your computer monitor. This is when you should insert your Pro Video Plus disk into the internal disk drive of your Amiga. Do not insert the WorkBench disk! A few moments after inserting the Pro Video Plus PROGRAM disk your computer screen should display memory information, a copyright notice, and a 1> prompt. If this doesn't occur, try warm booting your Amiga as described above. If this doesn't work, try the cold reset method. If you are still unable to boot Pro Video Plus refer to the technical service information portion of this manual. Further instructions on loading Pro Video Plus are contained in the BASICS portion (INTOR-7) of this introduction section. If you have not made backup-copies of your Pro Video Plus disks or read the CAUTIONS page, do not attempt to run the program. These topics are covered in the next few pages. Refer to them now. MAKING WORKING COPIES OF PRO VIDEO PLUS This section will guide you through making working copies of your Pro Video Plus Program and Data disks. Two copies of the Program disk, and at least two copies of the Data disk should be made. When you are finished making the copies, use one set of copies, keep another for back-up, and put your original disks away in a safe place. Backup copies must be made using the following procedure or from another CLI environment. Do not make copies from Amiga WorkBench! PREPARATIONS 1) Turn on the computer. If the screen requests the Kickstart disk, insert Kickstart 1.2 label side up, with the sliding metal cover forward. 2) When the Workbench hand appears on the screen, insert the Pro Video Plus program disk. ensuring it is write protected. If you can see through the square window in the corner of the disk, the disk is write protected. Otherwise flip the plastic tab on the back of the disk to the see-through position. The master disk is now loading. In a few moments memory information, a copyright notice, and the CLI status line prompt (1>) will appear on your screen. BACKING UP THE MASTER DISKS WITH DISKCOPY If your system has only one disk drive, type the following: DISKCOPY DF0: TO DF0: (Then press the return key) If your system has two disk drives, type the following: DISKCOPY DF0: TO DF1: (Then press the return key). The DISKCOPY utility will guide you through the steps necessary to copy the original program disk to the blank disk. Use the above procedure for each copy you make. NOTE: Never remove a disk from the drive when the drive lamp is illuminated. Doing so may corrupt your disk! USING PRO VIDEO PLUS WITH HARD DISK DRIVE Pro Video Plus can be run from a hard disk drive. You, however, must be familiar with your particular hard drive system and the Amiga CLI in order to install Pro Video Plus on the drive. The following information is no a how-to, but information about Pro Video Plus that you will need in order to transfer and run the program from your hard disk drive. 1. Pro Video Plus can only be run from CLI. 2. There must be sufficient contiguous memory in your Amiga system for Pro Video Plus to operate. (410K chip memory, and 400K fast memory). 3. Pro Video Plus will not share windows and system resources with other software, and should not be multi-tasked with other software. 4. Pro Video Plus Program disk files must be in a hard disk sector labeled JDK: or an assign JDK: routine included in your hard drive boot disk startup-sequenc. 5. Pro Video Plus directories PVP and CHAR, and all files in these directories, from your original disk must be copied to the hard drive sector labeled or assigned as JDK:. 6. Your Amiga keyboard map must be set to usaO. (this is normally done by Pro Video Plus in the original program disk startup-sequence). 7. Although Pro Video Plus does not require specific directories or filenames for saving data or pictures, you may consider using the directory names that are on your Pro Video Plus data disk as these names will be referred in further along in this manual. 8. The only exit from Pro Video Plus is to power down or warm boot. CAUTIONS USING THE PLUS AND MINUS KEY The plus (+) key and minus (-) keys supported by Pro Video Plus are those located on the top of the ascii keyboard. NOT the numeric keypad. ABOUT THE MOUSE Pro Video Plus does not support the Amiga mouse for program input. However, pressing the mouse buttons can potentially cause a system freeze. We recommend that you disconnect the mouse, or remove it from sight (out of sight/out of mind), after loading Pro Video Plus. COMPUTER CRASH An occasional system "freeze" may occur with any computer. If this happens to you, the system must be reset. To reset the system press both Amiga keys (located on either side of the space bar) along with the CTRL key. BACKING UP YOUR WORK Working with computers for extended periods of time without saving your work is not a very good idea. There is always a possibility of a system freeze occurring and having to reset the computer. If you haven't saved your work to disk, it is not recoverable. Since disks can also become corrupted at times, we recommend that you use at least two disks, alternating between them, to regularly save your work. It's a good idea to save your work every 15-30 minutes. Remember, the longer it's been since you saved your work, the more you'll lose if the system crashes. DISK OPERATIONS Never remove a disk from a drive while the drive light is illuminated as it well probably corrupt your disk. Pro Video Plus is very demanding on the Amiga graphics chips and makes extensive us of video interrupts. This taxes the entire Amiga operating system to it's limit and can cause problems with what woudl be normal disk activity with other software. Following the basic guidelines below will avoid disk corruption and system crash. 1) Exchange disks and wait for the disk drive light to go out before entering Pro Video Plus's didk functions (Shift F3 and Shift F5). 2) Don't remove, or insert, any disk while Pro Video Plus is in the Page Mode of operation. This is when the video interrupts are most active. PRO VIDEO PLUS BASICS This section is designed to give you a brief overview and short tutorial of Pro Video Plus. You'll have a better understanding, and be ready to more fully utiolize the capabilities of this program, when you have completed this section. You will need one back-up copy of the Pro Video Plus Program disk and one copy of the Data disk. If you haven't made back-up copies or read the Cautions page of this section, do so now. Follow the step by step instructions closely. It may be handy to have a note pad nearby, writing down any discoveries made while operating the program. A bracket box is also provided in the right margin highlighting each important feature. You may choose to check these boxes as you go along, marking your progress. [] STARTING UP 1) Turn the computer power switch on. 2) Insert the Kickstart 1.2 disk (Amiga 1000 only). 3) When prompted for WorkBench, insert a copy of the Pro Video Plus program disk in the Amiga's internal disk drive (DF0:). 4) When the program screen display prompt appears (1>), enter: PVP/PROG (followed by a space and your registration number) [RETURN] The files used by Pro Video Plus will display on screen during the loading sequence. The screen will clear when the load is completed, placing the system in Edit mode. A flashing edit cursor appears at the home position (upper left). [] CURSOR CONTROLS The flashing cursor on the screen indicates where text would be placed if entered from the keyboard. There are four cursor control keys located in the lower right of your Amiga keyboard. These keys have arrow indicators on them showing the direction of cursor movement if used. 'Arrow' key and 'cursor' key are frequently referred to throughout this manual and mean the same thing. If you are unfamiliar with the Amiga's cursor controls, or software that uses a screen editor, you should spend a few moments moving the cursor around the screen. In addition to the normal cursor movement of one character or line, Pro Video Plus supports greater movement when using the shift and cursor keys. These cursor movements are as follows. Shift cursor up moves the cursor to the home position. Shift cursor down moves the cursor to the bottom line of a page. Shift cursor right moves the cursor to the right margin. Shift cursor left moves the cursor to the left margin. [] RETURN KEY The return key is the largest key on your keyboard. If it is not marked 'RETURN', you will find it on the right hand side. The return key is the only key not rectangular, rather shaped like a reverse capital L. The return key is used in editing to move the cursor down one line and to the left margin. The return key is also used frequently to make menu selections. [] ENTERING TEXT ON A LINE Move the cursor to the home position and enter the following text on the keyboard exactly the way it appears below (including errors). Thiss is is a tst [] DELETING TEXT IN A LINE Using the arrow keys move the cursor over the second 's' in the mistyped word 'Thiss' that you just entered on the line. Now press the DEL (Delete) key once. Notice that the letter under the cursor is 'deleted' and all characters to the right move to the left one character position. The space that was one portion to the right of the cursor is not affected. Characters from the cursor position to the right are moved to the left. [] INSERTING TEXT ON A LINE Position the cursor over the 's' in the mistyped word 'tst' of our practice line. Enter the letter 'e' from the keyboard. The 'e' will be inserted into the line correcting the misspelled word to read 'test'. Pro Video Plus always enters text on a line in the 'insert mode'. Inserting text in a line places the entered text under the cursor position and moves characters to the right of the cursor one position to the right. NOTE: Because Pro Video Plus always edits in the 'insert mode', you will not be able to enter text in a line if there is a character already at the right margin or if inserting a character at the cursor position would move characters toi the right past the right margin of the screen. Take some time entering and changing test on this line using the DEL and Back Space keys and become familiar with the normal 'insert mode' of Pro Video Plus. When you have finished, remove all characters on the line. [] FUNCTION KEYS The Amiga function keys are the top row of keys (F1, F2, etc.) on the keyboard. These keysare used to access most Pro Video Plus features. If you haven't already done so, take the keyboard overlay supplied with your software package and alay it on your keyboard just above these keys. One side of the overlay is for the Amiga 500 and 100, the other side is for the Amiga 2000. The function keys are marked F1, F2, F3, etc. This manual refers to these keys accoringly. Do not press the 'F' key and the '1' key when F1 is indicated. [] DECLARE LINE SIZE Press the F1 key and a status line (or selection menu) will appear on the bottom of your screen. Most Pro Video Plus functions use this type of prompting. Notice the flashing cursor is on the 32vl size indicating a current line size of 32vl. The edit line is also marked between two horizontal lines. Using the right arrow key move the status line cursor right to the 80vl and press the return key. The return key is usually used to return to editiong after making a selection from status lines. The edit cursor is now much larger, reflecting the new line size. Press F1 again and notice the new line size is highlighted on the status line. Using the cursor keys to position the edit line cursor create the following line sizes in sequence fromscreen top to bottom using the F1 function on each line. 32vl, 48vl, 64vl, 48vl, 32vl, 32vl These line sizes will be used in the later in this section. [] SELECTING FONTS There are four font styles resident in PVP; Modern, Roman, Traditional and Clean. Renderings of the font styles included with Pro Video Plus are in the appendix. Any combination of these font styles may be entered on a line. Move the edit cursor to the home position and then press F2. The status line selection menu prompts us to select an edit font size. Since the edit line we are on is 32vl and the status line menu cursor is on 32vl press the return key to select a 32vl edit font size. A color palette is now displayed across the top of the status line. The current text color has a flashing box around it. To change color, press the left or right cursor key, moving the cursor across the palette, and see the color of the text on the status line change correspondlingly. To choose a different font style, press the up and down cursor keys. The status line font will change, displaying the selection. When satisfied with the selected font color and style, press RETURN. The status line clears and the screen returns to edit mode. Type the statement "Line ONE 32vl" on the current line (your cursor should be on the top line). Repeat these steps, selecting various font colors and styles, for the other lines. Move the edit cursor to a new line by using the cursor keys, or by pressing RETURN and then press F2. Enter text on each line in sequence: i.e. Line TWO 48vl, Line THREE 64vl, etc. During this exercise the status line cursor for select edit font should default to the size of the line you are working on. Do not select a font size different from the line size, tha's covered next. [] COMBINING FONT COLORS, STYLES AND SIZES ON A LINE Place the edit cursor on line three and press F2. Select a different font size, color and style. When selecting a different size, do not select a size greater than the line size (64vl here). Enter the word "New" anywhere on the line. The word 'New' will appear in the size, style and color of your selection. Move the cursor over a character that was part of the original entry ('Line THREE 64vl'). Press the F2 key and notice the status line indicates the size of the character that was under the edit line cursor. Press return and notice the status menu reflects the color and style of this character. Return to edit by pressing return, cursor over one of the characters oaf the word 'NEW' on this line. Use the Select Font Attributes function (F2) again. Notice the status line selection indicates the size, color, and style of font that was under the edit line cursor when you entered this routine. This feature makes it very easy to move about your screen and change font selections to match what you had previously entered in a particular area. When entering text on a line, the line size must be at least as big as the largest font being placed on it. While your edit cursor is still on line three, use F2 to select an 80vl size font then try to enter text on this line. What happened? For now, just press return to escape the error message status line and return to edit mode. [] CHANGING LINE SIZES Home the cursor and press F1 to re-declare the size of line one. The status menu cursor should be on 32vl indicating that the current line is that size. Select 80vl and return to edit. What happened to lines seven and eight? Making line one 80vl caused these lines to disappear because the size total of all lines on the page would have exceeded 400vl. If you want to recover lines seven and eight, you can do that now by re-declaring line one back to 32vl. Now cursor down to line three and enter the Line Size routine (F1) again. Select 32vl from the status line menu cursor and press return. You can not re-declare a line smaller than the largest font size placed on the line. Press return to escape from the status line error message. [] LINE AND PAGE JUSTIFICATION The on screen text may be left, center or right justified, either by line or page. Move the edit cursor to the home position and press F6. Move the status line menu cursor one position to the left and press return. The top line should now be justified to the right margin. Press F6 again and move the status line cursor three positions to the right before pressing return. Now all text on the screen should be right justified. When selecting page justify, the justification affects all screen lines from the current edit line to the bottom of the screen. Lines above the current edit line are not affected. This is true of most other Pro Video Plus edit mode features that have a 'Line' or 'Page' option. Move down a couple of lines and center the page using the justify function (F6). [] ITALICIZING AND KERNING Move the edit cursor to line four and delete all characters on the line. Line four should be the 80vl line. Select any 80vl font other than Modern Bold (The heaviest appearing font style) and enter the word 'Too' on the line. Be sure to use an uppercase 'T' and lowercase 'o'. Press F3 and move the status line cursor to Kerning ON, then press return. The first 'o' of the word 'Too' on the eidt line should have moved closer to the 'T'. This feature is called kerning and will give character combinations such as 'To' a more natural look. Pro Video Plus uses coarse kerning. It requires a considerable gap between characters before kerning will have an effect. Kerning will have no effect on most text. Press F3 again and select Italicize ON. Pro Video Plus Italicizes by line, all characters on a line will be italicized. Press F3 again, select Italicize ON, but press the lowercase 'p' character instead of the return key to make your selection. This is called the 'p' (for page) escape and is supported by a number of functions. Notice that text on all lines from the edit line down are now italicized. The introduction to the Reference section of this manual explains how to identify which funtions recognize the 'p' escape. DO NOT GO TO THE REFERENCE SECTION NOW! [] LINE BACKGROUND COLOR Remain on line four and press F10. This feature will allow youto select a background color for the text on the line. Move the color select dursor over to an appropriate color and then press the down arrow key. The status line should now show this color on the bottom half of the line. Select another color and press the up arrow key. Now press return. The background colors indicated on the status line should now appear on your edit line. Pro Video Plus allows you to add color background to the bottom, top, or complete line. You also have the ability to horizontally size and position the background; as well as add texture with a grid pattern (F9). These are advanced features you can explore when done with this section. [] SCREEN COLOR Now that you know how to add a color background to a text line, how about the screen color: Changing the screen color is accompblished by modifying the color palette attached to the page. To do this hold the shift key down and press F7. Then select modify from the status line menu cursor. You now will have a status line with the color bar menu on the top, information about the red, green, and blue intensities of the color indicated by the flashing color bar cursor, and a few of the possible modifiers. Use the cursor left and right keys to select different colors. As you move from color to color, the values of red, green, and blue shown on the status line will change. Eash primary color (R,G,B or Red, Green and Blue) can have a value of 0 (off) to 15 (full intensity). Using varying intensities of these primary colors you can create up to 4096 different hues. Now move the flashing color bar cursor all the way to the left. This color is called color register 0 and is your screen color. Pressing the 'b' key (for blue) raise the blue level. Now using the Shift 'b' key lower the blue level back to 0. Try doing this with all three colors using thee 'r' key for red, and 'g' key for green. Then try different levels of all three colors. Be careful here, it is possible to create a color that will make your status line unreadable! When you have a screen color that you like press return. The original palette status line will re-appear. Press return again to edit this function. The palette you have just modified will stay with your current page until you modify it again. Of course, there are other options within the shift F7 routine, and you can change colors other than your screen color. You'll have the opportunity to discover more later. [] ADDING SHADOW TO TEXT There are two features we will explore here. Shadowing to add depth to characters and edging to add definition. The F8 key will access both of these functions. Still on line four, right? Press the F8 key to access the shadow/edge function. Move the color bar cursor to a color that might be a good shadow for the color of the text you have on the line. Don't select the text color or the screen color. Next press the minus key (just to the right of the number 0 key). The size indicator on the status line should read '10'. Press the minus key one more time to select a size of '08'. You should be able to see a right shadow added to the text on the status line. Use the cursor down key to cycle through the shadow numbers. The shadow number as well as the representation of the shadow on the status line will change each time you press the cursor down key. As you cycle past shadoe #08, the shadow type will change to 'CAST' from 'FILL'. Cycle all the way around until you have a 'Fill' shadow number '1', then reduce the size to 06. Now press the lowercase 'e' key. This will change the status line to select 'Edge'. Preessing 's' (Not now!) from here would return to shadow select. Select an appropriate color for character edging. Usually a dark edge works best with light text, a light colored edge with dark text. When you have your color press the plus '+' key (remember to shift to access this key). The status line should now indicate and show an edge size of 02. Press '+' one more time. Again. What happened? The size number, for both shadow and edge, indicates the number of pixels that Pro Video Plus will add to the text. The maximum offset for both shadow and edge combined is 10 pixels. Because we already had a shadow size of 06, the maximum edge size allowed was 04 (6 + 4 = 10). If w had a shadow size of 10, we would not be able to select an edge at all. Select an edge of 04 pixels and then press the 'r' key. Pro Video Plus normally adds character edge first, then adds shadow. Now it's reversed; shadow first, then edge. Pressing the 'r' key will toggle between the edge or shadow being added first. Press return to see the shadow and edge you have selected added to the text on the line. Shadow and edge are line attributes. That is, they affect all text on the line whether you enter the text before or after selecting shadow and edge. You can change the shadow and edge attributes for a line at any time. Large shadows and edges can slow text entry shile editing. You may want to consider entering all of your text on a page before adding shadow and edge. [] UNDERLINING Pro Video Plus allows underlining by character, thather than underlining after text has been entered. Underlining must be turned on when entering text you want underlined, vertically so that it can appear as an accent line. Move to line four (has the word 'Too' on it) and turn Italicize OFF (F3). Now move your edit cursor two character spaces to the right of the word 'Too'. Select any 80vl font style and enter an uppercase (capital) 'M'. Now press the F7 key to select underline. Cursor to an appropriate color (red usually works well for underline) and press the '-' key to turn underline ON> Press return to and add the lowercase letters 'ore' to complete the word 'More' on the edit line. Notice the cursor, which is usually a vertical bar, now has a horizontal mark on it indicating that underline is on. There is a reason why we did not underline the capital 'M', which will be obvious in the next step. Enter function F7 again. The status line is underlined. Press the up arrow key and watch the underline on the status line move up. Use the cursor up key to position the underline so that it is even with the top of the uppercase characters on the status line. (Use the cursor down if you go too far up). Press return and the underline on your edit line will change to an accent line in the position you had selected. The underline feature stays on until you turn it off. If you move to another line an enter text it will be underlined. Move down one line and enter some new text. You will have to select a smaller font to do this. What do you see? No underline! This happened because underline color and position are line attributes and the underline color has not been selected for this line. Select an underline for this line now. How to avoid this problem? On pages, where you know you are going to use and under/accent line, at the top line select an underline color other than the screen color. Use the 'p' (page) escape after making the color selection. Now, any time underline is on, it will be visible. You can always change the color and position of the under/accent line for any line after you've finished composing your page. Now enter F7 and turn underline OFF (Pressing the '-' key). [] CLEARING LINES AND PAGES This portion of the tutorial will show how to clear lines and pages. Move your edit cursor to line four and press F5. The status line will show four options. Select the first option (Clear Line Text) to the left of the (<-->) (double arrow) then press return. This option will clear the line of text and all other attributes assigned to it select the Clear Line Plus option from F5. Try this on line four now. The background color on the edit line, and shadow and edge information, have now cleared. Enter some text to see that shadow information is no longer assigned to this line. This function is also used to clear pages of text and line attributes. Move the edit cursor to the home position and press F5. This time select the Page Plus option (far right on status line) and press return. All lines on the page have now been cleared. Using the techniques you have learned so far, create a simple page with several lines of text. You will need something visual on this page in order to proceed any further with the tutorial. Do it now. [] GO TO ANOTHER PAGE So far we have only been using one page of 100 in the default bank. The page you hve been working on is page #00 of bank 'a'. Other banks with identifiers 'b', 'c', and so on, may be added later. Pro Video Plus can have up to 2600 text pages in 26 banks of 100 pages each. This is covered in the Reference section. Hold the shift key down and press F1. The left side of the status line indicates what page is currently displayed. Press the up cursor key to GO TO the next page (page #01). Page #01 is blank, you will not see anything above the status line. Press the cursor down key to return to the page you were editing. Pressing the cursor down key one more time will cycle back to page #99. The 100 pages of a bank are numbered #00 through #99. If you request the previous page from page #00, Pro Video Plus will display page #99. What happens if you request the next page after #99? Press the cursor up key to find out. You don't have to cycle through all 100 pages to find the one you want. You can enter the specific page number. Try entering the numbers '5' and '9'. This should display page #59. This page is also blank, as you can see. Enter the numbers '0' and '0' to return to your original page. To access pages directly by the page number, two digits are required (i.e. Page #1 requires 01 to be entered). This function also allows you to duplicate the page currently displayed to any one of the other pages in the system. To change from the GO TO mode to DUP mode, hold the shift key down and press the 'D' key. The word 'GO' on the status line is replaced by the word 'DUP'. Cuplicating a page uses the same key input as 'GO TO'. Cursor up or down to duplicate to the next or previous page, and direct entry of the page number to duplicate somewhere else in the system. Duplicate the current page (#00) to the next page (#01). Use the cursor up key or enter the page number, whichever you prefer. Once the page is duplicated only the status line will change to indicate you are now on the page you duplicated to. The page won't look different because it is an exact duplicate of the original. Duplicating a page is a very easy way to set-up transitional animations. Duplicate, then add to or change the new page, then use an appropriate transition. Even if you change everything on the new page, it's a great way to make sure that the text line placement is the same from page to page. You'll discover more about the value of the duplicate page feature as you spend time working with the software. The next feature to be covered is page transitions. You will use the two pages of text you have created (#00 and #01) but you'll want one page to look different than the other. Before going on, create a new and different screen on page #01. [] SETTING PAGE TRANSITIONS The real power of Pro Video Plus lies in being complete CG software. Not only a quality video text editor, but also a sophisticated page animator all in one package. There are over 90 page effects transitions supported by Pro Video Plus. You'll learn how to access and use them. Assuming you have completed creating a new screen on page #01, press the shift F8 key to see the transition status line. On the left of the status line it should read Trans=p-00 PASS. The 'p' after the equal sign indicates that this is a whole page transition. Both whole page and line independent transitions are supported. An 'l' here would indicate the later. Transitions are numbered 00 through 92. 00-32 are whole page transitions, 33-91 are pre-set line transitions, and 92 is custom-set line independent transitions. More information on all the transitions can be found in the shift F8 Page Mode sections of the Reference section. Pass, as a transition, is really a 'BANG' (suddenly replace the current screen with a new one) transition. The word 'PASS' is only used as a flag for Pro Video Plus to skip this page when in an auto-cycle or auto-sequence mode of operation. Auto-cycle and auto-sequence are discussed in more detail in the Reference section. Use the '+' key (shift '=') to cycle forward through some of the transitions and the '-' key (to the right of '0') to cycle back. Don't go through all of them right now. When you're done set the transition to read 'TRANS=p-18 Push Up'. On the far right of the status line are two other transition values. Speed (s}pd=0) is how fast the transition will move and Dwell (d}wl=00) tells Pro Video Plus how long to display the page when in an auto-cycle or auto-sequence mode. Speed can have a value of 0 (fastest) to 7 (slowest). Dwell is measured in seconds from 00 to 63. Using the 's' key to set the transition speed for this page to '2' (shift 's' will decrease the speed number if you go beyond 2). Set the dwell time using the 'd' key to 5 seconds (shift 'd' decreases dwell). GO TO page #00 when done and prepare to set the transition (shift F8) for your other page. When selecting a transition it is not necessary to use the '+' and '-' keys to cycle through all 92. There are a variety of ways, explained in the Reference section, to quickly move to type or direction of transition. One method is to enter the two digit transition number directly from the keyboard. Pressing the '4' key and then '7' set the transition for page #00 to 'Slide <-- and --> Down'. This transition will slide lines on screen alternating from left and right from top of the page to the bottom. Set the transition speed for page #00 to 1 and the dwell to 3 second. [] USING TRANSITIONS FROM PAGE MODE Pro Video Plus has two basic modes of operation 'Edit Mode' and 'Page Mode'. Up to now you have been in the edit mode. Page mode is where you display transition, or cycle through the pages you have created. The 'ESC' key 9upper left of keyboard) is used to 'toggle' between these two modes. Press the 'ESC' key. Notice the cursor is no longer visible. Press it again to get your edit cursor back. If you're not sure which mode Pro Video Plus is operating, whether you can see the edit cursor or not is the best indicator. Press the 'ESC' key to enter page mode (No edit cursor). Now press the cursor up key. You just went to page #01 from #00. What is different going from page #00 to page #01 in the page mode, compaged to the GO TO function in the edit mode? Use the cursor down key to transition back to page #00. Like the GO TO function of the edit mode, you can also display pages by entering their page number. Enter the numbers '0' and then '1'. Nothing happens! The page mode requires you press the return key after entering the page number. Why? Some pages you'll create in the future will be so complicated it may take Pro Video Plus several seconds to write. This wait may not be acceptable when you want a graphic "Right Now!" If you knwo what page you will want next, enter the page number and Pro Video Plus will write it to the shadow sceen and the park (wait). Pressing the return key on cue will bring the new page on immediately. Practice going from page #00, page #01, and any other blank page in the system using the cursor and direct page number entry methods. If Pro Video Plus seems to ignore your keyboard input, perhaps you have entered som extraneous keys. Pressing return will clear the keyboard buffer and get you back to normal operation. [] AUTO PAGE MODES There are several modes of auto page sequencing from within the page mode. To explore them fully you will need one more page transition set. Go back to the edit mode and set a transition for page #02 to Fade-IN/Fade Out. Leave the speed at 0 and set a dwell of 2 seconds. This will be a blank page used as a buffer. The first method of page sequence is called auto-sequence. Use this for credits or other pages that have been created to display in a sequence. Use the esc key to enter the page mode. If you are not on page #02, go to any other blank page in the system. Press the F1 key. The F1 key will sequence pages #00-#09, skipping any pages that have 'Pass' set as a transition, and stop at the last page of this group with a transition, other than pass, set. Since page #00-#02 are the only pages of #00-09 that have transitions set, these will be sequenced; stopping on page #02. For this method of auto sequencing Pro Video Plus looks at pages in numerical groups of 10. #00-09 being group F1, #10-19 group F2, through #90-99 as group F10. When done displaying the group, you will still be in normal page mode and can access any other page or group of pages. The only way to stop the sequencing is to press the esc key and return to edit mode. Auto-cycle display mode is for continuous display mode, suck as a cable system date caster. It will display all pages (up to 2600) in the system that are 'set-in' (shift F9) and have a transition set. It then will 'cycle', repeating the sequence until interrupted by you. From the page mode, press the 'HELP' key. This will sequence pages #00-02 (the only pages that have been 'set-in' by transition selection), until you press the esc key to exit to the edit mode. [] SAVING YOUR WORK Saving your work is something you should do every 15-30 minutes during, and certainly after, an editing session. In this session you will save the work that you have created, and then load it back into the system. If you have a two disk drive system, insert a copy of the Pro Video Plus data disk into the second (external) drive. For a single drive system, remove the Pro Video Plus program disk, then insert the data disk into the internal drive. The internal drive is known as 'DF0:', the second drive may be 'DF1:', or 'DF2:' depending on which model of Amiga you are using. After inserting the data disk your disk drive light will illuminate while the system validates the disk. WAIT FOR THIS LIGHT TO GO OUT! Press shift F5 to select a PVP JOB disk operation. From here select SAVE from the status line select menu. You now have two options - Quick or List. The quick option is the fastest way to LOAD or SAVE. However, since you are just learning disk operations, you will use the other method. Select List. The list option first requests which disk drive you want to save to. If you have a single drive system and have inserted the data disk in the internal drive select DF0:. For most dual drive users the selection will be DF1:. If in double, check your Amiga manual to determing the drive number of your second drive. Pro Video Plus will now read the file directory from the data disk and display it on your monitor. Directory and file structures will be discussed in greater detail in the Reference section and the CLI part of the Advanced Techniques section. For now, we'll keep it simple. Notice you have a flashing cursor to the left of the first item (#00) on the list. This item is the parent directory (p dir) name for the items on the list. You will save your work as a file in the JOBS directory of this disk. Cursor down to the item number wher '(dir) JOBS' is found and press return. JOBS now becomes the parent directory (p dir) of the list. Since no files have been saved to this directory, there is nothing else on the list. Cursor down to the first blank line and press return. A new status line will appear on the bottom of the screen requesting you'ENTER NAME'. From the keyboard enter the word 'test' (do not include the apostrophies), using the Back Space key if you make a mistake. Your entry will appear between the two brackets with teh '*' on the status line (|*|). When you have finished entering the filename test, press return. The save will take a few moments. Wait for the disk drive light to go out and your edit cursor to return to the screen. You now have saved your work to disk. [] LOADING JOBS This is the routine you will use to load work you created in a previous session. Since you have only saved on JOB, we will attempt to load wheat you just saved. Re-loading the final save after an editing session is usually a good idea anyway. To better understand what happens you may want to clear page #00. Then follow these steps. 1. Press shift F5 2. Select LOAD 3. Select List 4. Select the appropriate disk drive 5. Select the JOBS directory 6. Select the file 'test' When the disk drive light goes out and your edit cursor returns, the file should have loaded properly. If an error occurred during the file save or load routine, an error message would have been displayed on the status line. If this happens, check to see that you have followed the proper procedure and try it again. [] GOING ON FROM HERE We have certainly not covered everything you will want to know about Pro Video Plus, but hopefully enough to get you started and giv eyou a solid base of understanding to discover more on your own. The learning curve of this manual is structured in three parts. 1. Pro Video Plus Basics (you've just finished this). 2. Reference Section. 3. Advanced Features Now you should be ready to tackle the Reference section. So that you don't miss something, may we suggest that you study the Reference section in page order. That way you'll catch added insights about the features we have discussed here as well as learn new features not covered in the basics. Good luck! REFERENCE HOW TO USE THE REFERENCE SECTION The reference section contains information on how to use mose of the features of Pro Video Plus. It is not intended to be a tutorial for beginners. First time users should study the tutorial section of this manual, and then use this section for reference and further information. This section is organized by keystroke. Although other keys are used, most of the features of Pro Video Plus are accessed by the function keys at the top of your keyboard. Each new feature of this section has a function header graphic in the upper right corner of the page indicating what key is used to access that feature. In addition to the keystroke and feature the symbols p and/or F may appear in the upper right corner of the function header graphic. The following is a description of their meaning. THE p SYMBOL The lowercase p indicates that this function supports the page escape. Page escape is a technique that allows an entire page to be affected by whatever command is being chosen. To use the p escape, simply press the lowercase p wherever a return key is the normal escape you would use after making your selection. The selection you have made will then affect all screen lines from the current edit line down. THE F SYMBOL When the letter F appears in the upper right hand corner of the graphic function header, it indicates that function to function key commands are supported. This means that whenever a return is requested to either set an attricute or to return to edit mode, another function key may be pressed. This method allows you to move through the page editing process much faster than having to press return and then selecting a new function key. Some function key selections have multiple menus requireing you to make a selection to have another menu with additional choices appear. In these cases the function to function commands may only be supported on the first menu selection. !-----!-------! FUNCTION KEY F1 ! F 1 ! p/F ! (Edit Mode) !-----! ! ! Line ! RE-DECLARE TEXT LINE SIZE ! Size ! !-------------! All pages in Pro Video Plus are default formatted with twelve 32vl lines. The abbreviation "vl" represents vertical lines. The F1 key allows you to define the size of the line that the cursor is on. Pressing the F1 key, the following information will appear on the status line. Re-Declare Line Size (<-->) 32vl 48vl 64vl 80vl (<-->) The status line cursor indicates the current line size. If another line size is desired, use the left or right arrow keys to move the cursor over the desired line size and press return. The cursor adjusts to the new size. Normally, the line will be resized and the program will return you to the edit page. If you have already entered text on the line, and the text has fonts that are larger than the line size you have requested, the following error message will appear on the status line. Cannot Resize as Requested! Clear Line? NO YES (<-->) This means the line cannot be re-sized smaller unless it's first cleared. In this case, use the left and right arrow keys to place the cursor over your choice. If you choice is to clear and resize the line select YES. If you do not want to clear the line, selecting NO will return you to the edit page. The safe text area allows for 400vl in any combination of line sizes. If there is text on the bottom line, enlarging a line in the upper portion of the page may cause the bottom line to disappear, if the total line vl then exceeds 400. Re-sizing the current line to its original size will bring the bottom line back into view. Better planning of the page layout, or employing the move line function (Shift F6) to move a line up from the bottom first will keep this from occurring. !-----!-------! FUNCTION KEY F2 ! F 2 ! F ! (Edit Mode) !-----! ! ! Font ! SELECT EDIT FONT SIZE ! Attributes ! !-------------! Select edit font size by pressing function key F2. The following status line is then displayed on the screen. SELECT EDIT FONT SIZE (<-->) 32vl 48vl 64vl 80vl (<-->) The status line cursor will mark the size of the font which was under the edit line cursor. If a different size is desired, use the left or right arrow key to place the status line cursor over the desired font size, then press return. A new status line appears with a color palette above the characters. The current font color is indicated by a flashing box, and the status line characters reflect the size, style and color selections. COLOR= <--> FONT= (/\\/) Use the left or right arrow key to select the desired font color. Notice the color of the characters displayed on the status line changes as you select from the palette. The up and down arrow keys select the available font styles. Press return to enter text with the attributes that you have selected. The program will remember your selection until you re-enter this function and make different selections. COMBINING FONT SIZES ON A LINE You may combine font styles, colors, and sizes on a line as long as the line size is large enough to accommodate the largest font. To do this, simply return to F2 to make another selection and then added to the text line. If after selecting a font size, style and color, you atempt to edit on a line that is smaller than the font size selected, the following error message occurs. EDIT FONT TOO LARGE! (<-->) ABORT SELECT-FONT RESIZE-LINE (<-->) If you chose to abort, you will return to the edit mode with nothing changed. If you want to enter text on the current line one of the other options must be selected. Pro Video Plus makes it easy to re-select a font that has been previously entered. if you place the cursor over the font that has the attributes you want to use, the F2 function status lines will read that character and come up showing those attributes. If you know that the attributes of the font under the cursor are what you want then you can quickly press F2 and return twice without waiting to read the status lines. You will then be ready to enter text with the size, color, and style attributes of the character the cursor was on. !-----!-------! FUNCTION KEY F3 ! F 3 ! p/F ! (Edit Mode) !-----! ! ! Italic/ ! RE-DECLARE TEXT LINE SIZE ! Kerning ! !-------------! SELECT ITALIC AND KERNING When function key F3 is pressed, this status line will appear. LINE OPTIONS: ON OFF = ITALICIZE (<-->) KERNING = OFF ON Both Italicize and Kerning default is Off. To select either feature, use the left and right arrow keys to position the status line cursor, then press return. ITALICIZE LINE Italicizing may be chosen before or after placing text on a line. When italicize is turned on, the entire line will be italicized. Italicize on/off only affects the currently selected line, and may be disabled by returning to F3, and setting italicize to off. KERNING TEXT Kerning is a method of horizontally pulling certain letters closer together. For example, when an uppercase 'T' and a lowercase 'o' are placed side by side, there is a noticeable space between them. When kerning is employed, the 'o' moves closer to the ascending stroke of the 'T'. Kerning lends a clean, organized appearance to text. The kerning feature may be chosen either before or after placing text on a line. Whith the kerning attribute turned on, only the currently selected line will be affected. To return the current line to default status, choose the off position. ABOUT USING KERNING There are several conditions to be aware of when using the kerning feature. 1) When kerned, fonts narrow in horizontal relationship to each other, and share portions of the same vertical space. When a multicolored font resides next to a single colored font, the shared vertical area may force one font type to inherit the attributes of the other, or cause the characters to distort. 2) On a line of combined text sizes, kerning may cause some text to overlap. For example, text containing 80vl characters is positioned next to 48vl subscript font. When kerning is turned on, the subscript text shifts left, partially underneath the 80vl font. This occurs because kerning information is computed before actually being written to the display screen. 3) Kerning a line of text will move the right margin toward the left margin, proportional to the amount of space closed between kerned letters. A good procedure woud be to compose the entire text line before kerning is employed. !-----!-------! FUNCTION KEY F4 ! F 4 ! F ! (Edit Mode) !-----! ! ! Smaller Font! SMALLER FONT POSITIONING ! Alignment ! !-------------! Pro Video Plus has the ability to vertically position fonts which are smaller than the current line size, regardless of the normal baseline position. Pressing the F4 key will present the following status line. SMALLER THAN LINE FONT ALIGNMENT: (<-->) BASE MID TOP SUP SUB Any option selected here will be set for the entire line. All fonts on the current line smaller than the line size will be repositioned. Use the left or right arrow keys to select one of these options. (For the following, 'normal' is defined as the position where a font of the same size as the line size would be placed.) BASE = Default setting. Smaller fonts are placed on normal text baseline. MID = Smaller fonts are placed between the baseline and top of normal uppercase. TOP = Top of smaller uppercase font is aligned with top of normal uppercase. SUP = (Superscript) Smaller font is placed slightly above the top of normal uppercase. SUB = (Subscript) Smaller font is positioned slightly below the normal baseline. !-----!-------! FUNCTION KEY F5 ! F 5 ! F ! (Edit Mode) !-----! ! ! Clear ! LINE OR PAGE CLEAR ! Line/Page ! !-------------! Pressing F5 displays the following status line. CLEAR LINE = PLUS TEXT (<-->) PAGE = TEXT PLUS Position cursor by using left or right arrow keys, then press return to select. CLEAR LINE TEXT This feature will clear text on the current line, however line attributes for background, shadow, italicize and kerning will be retained. Clear line text doesn't remove grids, quick backgrounds or imported pictures. CLEAR LINE PLUS TEXT Erases all data from the current line, except quick backgrounds and imported pictures. CLEAR PAGE TEXT Clears all text from the current line through end of page, but retains all other attributes that had been assigned to each line. CLEAR PAGE TEXT PLUS Clears all data from current line position to end of page, except for quick backgrounds and imported pictures. To remove quick backgrounds, see shift F4. To remove imported pictures, shift F4. !-----!-------! FUNCTION KEY F6 ! F 6 ! F ! (Edit Mode) !-----! ! ! Justify ! JUSTIFY LINE OR PAGE ! Line/Page ! !-------------! To justify text with Pro Video Plus, press function key F6. The status line is now displayed on the bottom of the display screen. JUSTIFY LINE = LEFT CNTR RIGHT (<-->) PAGE = LEFT CNTR RIGHT Move the status line cursor using left and right arrow keys. Pressing return selects. JUSTIFY LINE LEFT Moves entire text on current line flush with left margin. JUSTIFY LIN CNTR (Center) Text on current line is centered. JUSTIFY LINE RIGHT Current line text is moved right, last character on line is flush with right margin. JUSTIFY PAGE LEFT Moves all text from current line through end of page flush with left margin. JUSTIFY PAGE CNTR (Center) All text from current line to end of page is centered. JUSTIFY PAGE RIGHT Moves all text from current line through end of page flush with right margin. NOTE: When using the justify line or page right feature, kerned lines will not flush right with non-kerned lines. For more information about kerning, refer to the function key F3 reference discribed earlier in this section. !-----!-------! FUNCTION KEY F7 ! F 7 ! p/F ! (Edit Mode) !-----! ! ! Under/ ! SELECT UNDER/ACCENT LINE ! Accent Line ! !-------------! To add underline, or an accent line, to your text, press F7. The following status line will appear. UNDER/ACCENT LINE COLOR = <--> POSITION /\\/ ON/OFF= - SELECTING AN UNDER/ACCENT LINE COLOR The current page palette is located along the top of the status line. Use the left and right arrow keys to select a color for the under/accent line. You will need to turn underline on (below) to see the under/accent line on the status line. TURNING UNDER/ACCENT LINE ON/OFF Press the minus (hyphen_ key to toggle the under/accent line feature on or off. The status line will display the under/accent in the color selected 9above). A color other than the default screen color must be selected 9above) to see the under/accent line. POSITIONING THE UNDER/ACCENT LINE to select the position of the under/accent line use the up and down arrow keys. Positioning of the under/accent line is proportional to the current line size. Six positions are available. As you cursor up they are as follows. 1) Just below the text baseline. (This is the default position for underline.) 2) Just above the text baseline. 3) Just below the normal top of line size lowercase text. 4) Just below the normal top of line size uppercase text. 5) Flush with the top of the line. 6) Flush with the bottom of the line. After the under/accent line attributes have been selected, press return. The status line clears returning you to edit mode. The cursor will change appearance to reflect the currently selected under/accent line poistion. All character keystrokes including the space bar will have an under/accent line printed with them until you turn the under/accent line off. Press F7 and turn it off by pressing the "-" (hyphen_ key. There is only one under/accent line attribute per line, therefore, any position or color changes affect the entire line. The under/accent will also be edged, shadowed, and/or italicized accoring to those selections you have made for the line. !-----!-------! FUNCTION KEY F8 ! F 8 ! p/F ! (Edit Mode) !-----! ! ! Shadow/ ! SELECT SHADOW AND EDGING ! Edge ! !-------------! To choose shadow and edging attributes for the current edit line, select F8. The following status line displays. SHADOW COLOR = <--> FILL = /\\/ SIZE 00=+/- EDGE=e REVERSE=r The current page palette is displayed across the top of the status line. The left and right arrow keys move the cursor to select a color for the shadow. SELECTING SHADOW The default color for shadow is 00. Choosing a different color will display the available shadow styles within the status line. The "+" and "-" keys select the shadow size (when on the shadow status line), and edge size (when on the edge status line). Sizes available increment by two pixels from 00 to 10. The combined size of the shadow and edge cannot exceed 10 pixels, for example; shadow 08 + edge 02 = 10 pixels. Any combination totaling ten or less is acceptable. When placing a large shadow on a small line, it may be cut off when encountering the "vl" limit of the line (depending on the direction of the shadow selected). One solution would be re-declaring the line size to a larger vl (function key F1). SELECTING SHADOW TYPE The up and down arrow keys are used to select one of the sixteen available shadow types. 01 through 08 are filled, 09 through 16 are cast. The following list describes the shadow direction. 01 and 09 Shadow to the right. 02 and 10 Shadow in lower right quadrant. 03 and 11 Shadow down. 04 and 12 Shadow in lower left quadrant. 05 and 13 Shadow to the left. 06 and 14 Shadow in upper left quadrant. 07 and 15 Shadow up. 08 and 16 Shadow in upper right quadrant. SELECTING THE EDGE Pressing eh "e" at the default status line displays the following. EDGE COLOR = <--> SIZE = +/- SHADOW = s REVERSE = r Edge sizing works together with shadow, consult the select shadow section for sizing information. The edge function will outline the character in the selected color. Press the lowercase s key to return to shadow select and the lowercase e key from the shadow select to go to edge select. REVERSE EDGE/SHADOW When the lowercase "r" is pressed, the edging outlines the shadow. Pressing it again will return the edging to its default position, with outline occurring before shadow. ABOUT FONTS, SHADOWS AND EDGES After selecting a shadow, an edge, or both, all characters on the current line are affected. A shadow or edge may be changed anytime by pressing F8 and selectint new shadow and edge attributes. If you are attempting to select edge or shadow and you are unable to see a change on the status line one of the following may be occurring. 1) Color selection is transparent due to selecting a color that is the same as the screen background, line background, character, shadow, or edge color. 2) Attempting to select shadow when the edge is already at the maximum 10 pixel size. 3) Attempting to select edge when the shadow is already at the maximum 10 pixel size. !-----!-------! FUNCTION KEY F9 ! F 9 ! p/F ! (Edit Mode) !-----! ! ! Grid ! SELECTING A BACKGROUND GRID ! Attributes ! !-------------! There are a variety of line background grids available that can be used to afcent your text or screen. Press F9 to open the following status line. GRID COLOR = < > PATTERN01 = /\\/ TYPE0 = +/- BOT/TOP-ON/OFF = (SHIFT)/\\/ SELECTING THE GRID COLOR Press the left or right arrow key to select a grid color. As with other functions in Pro Video Plus, the default is color 00. Selecting a color that will be visible against the screen color will enable you to see the different grid patterns. SELECTING A GRID TYPE The plus and minus (hyphen) keys cycle through these five grid types: 1) Horizontal lines 2) Vertical lines 3) Squares 4) Diagonal right lines 5) Diagonal left lines Choosing grid type 0 will turn the grid feature off. SELECTING A GRID PATTERN There are sixteen grid pattern sizes in varying thickness. These sizes will display in the status line when you press the up and down arrow keys. SETTING THE HALF LINE GRID POSITION The background grid can be placed on the top, bottom or both vertical halves of a line. Press the shift and up or down arrow keys to cycle the top or bottom on and off. SETTING THE GRID WIDTH It is possible to limit the horizontal size of the background grid. The width of the grid is controlled by the width of the line background function. See function F10, line background for detailed information. NOTE: Background grids align from the top of the page. If a grid is selected for an entire page, or consecutive lines, it will display uniformly, regardless of the line sizes or their vertical screen positions. Choosing the screen color as grid color, combined with the line background color (see F10) can create additonal grid effects. This is particularly true with the squares grid. !------!-------! FUNCTION KEY F10 ! F 10 ! p/F ! (Edit Mode) !------! ! ! Line ! LINE BACKGROUND ! Background ! !--------------! The F10 key is used to fill a text line with background color. The line background is independent of the screen color and can be selected for the top and/or bottom halves of any line. After pressing F10, the following system status line will appear. BACKGROUND COLOR= < > TOP= /\ BOTTOM= \/ SIZE= +/- POS= (Shift) < > l/r/c SELECTING COLORS To select background color press the right or left arrow key. When the desired color is highlighted, press either the up and/or down arrow key to designate whether you want the selected color top, bottom or both. For now, only the status line will change to show the selection. SETTING BACKGROUND SIZE Two vertical markers appear on the screen text line indicating the selected width of the background fill. If the background width has not been changed by a prior selection, these markers will appear at the left and right borders. Press the minus (hyphen) key to decrease the size, the plus key to increase the size. The right hand marker will move accordingly. SETTING BACKGROUND POSITION To position the area between the markers to another location on the same line, hold the shift key down and press either the left or right arrow key. Bothe the left and right markers will move in the direction of the selected arrow key. POSITIONING WITH l/r/c/f The following lowercase keystrokes automatically position the marked background fill area on the current line. l - Justify left. r - Justify right. c - Justify center. f - Resets markers to full screen width. !-------! !-----!-------! FUNCTION KEY SHIFT F1 ! SHIFT ! ! F 1 ! F ! (Edit Mode) !-------! !-----! ! ! Go To/ ! GO TO/DUPLICATE PAGE ! Dup Page ! !-------------! Pressing the shift and F1 key simultaneously, permits page selection and duplication. The following information will appear on the status line. BANK a PAGE #00 (SHF-G/D)= GO to NEXT= (/\) PREV (\/) or #a #-- There are several functions available within this status line. GO TO PAGE The default page function is GO. To browse through a series of pages or locate an unknown page, use the up and down arrow keys. As you press the up or down arrow key, the page number on the staus line will reflect the currently displayed page. To access a specific page, enter its number in a two digit format, for example: 01. The page will then display. Pressing return exits to edit mode on the displayed page. DUPLICATING A PAGE Pressing the shift and D keys simultaneously, enables the page duplicate feature. When chosen, DUP will appear in place of GO on the status line. All data and attributes attached to the page (transition, palette, text, etc.) will be copied to all pages selected until DUP is disabled or you press return to edit. To duplicate to any page use the same input as GO. Use cursor up or down to duplicate to the next or previous page and use a two digit entry to duplicate to a specific page number. After a page has been duplicated, the status line will indicate the new page number. Pressing shift G returns the status line to the GO function. This allows for duplicating pages without exiting the go to/duplicate function. ACCESSING A BANK OF PAGES A BANK is a group of 100 pages, numbered 00 through 99. The default bank is labeled lower case a. Subsequent Banks will be labeled b, c, d, etc. Pro Video Plus can access up to 26 banks (depending on memory available). If you desire to G"O or DUP to a page in another BANK, enter the appropriate label of the desired bank as a prefix to the page number, for example: b22. If the bank doesn't exist, the following message appears on the status line. ALLOCATE MEMORY FOR ADDITIONAL BANK? (<-->) YES Use the left or right arrow key to place the status line cursor over YES and press return. If there isn't enough system memory available to create the additional bank, an error message displays. NOT ENOUGH MEMORY! PRESS RETURN TO ACKNOWLEDGE MESSAGE! Pressing return at this point returns the display to the initial status line. If there is enough system memory available, a new bank will be created and labeled. The new bank will then be available within your system memory. The screen now returns to the default status line, in the original bank. Now enter the letter of the new bank and page number desired to GO or DUP to. New banks are always added in alphabetical order, for example: c, d, e, etc. Pro Video Plus ignores any new label request which diesn't follow this order, and creates a bank label that does. An example would be to enter "z" for a new bank, when "b" was the last bank created. The new bank label will automatically be labeled "c". (Once a bank has been allocated, it cannot be de-allocated). There are two ways to add banks of pages. One is described above. That is, requesting to GO or to DUP to a bank that doesn't exist yet. The other is with a pre-load startup-sequence described for advanced users in the appendix. !-------! !-----!-------! FUNCTION KEY SHIFT F2 ! SHIFT ! ! F 2 ! p/F ! (Edit Mode) !-------! !-----! ! ! Multi-Color ! MULTI-COLOR FONTS ! Attributes ! !-------------! Press the shift and F2 keys simultaneously, to bring up the line for accessing multi-colored fonts. The following information is displayed. MULTICOLOR = <--> COLOR 1=(/\) COLOR 2=(\/) ON/TYPE=- OFF |___| SELECTING THE MULTI-COLOR FONT COLORS Note the 16 color palette along the top of the status line, with the cursor placed on color 00. Use the left or right arrow key to select a color. Assign color 1 by pressing the up arrow key. Choose another color from the palette and press the down arrow key to set color 2. Assigning a texture next, will make your choices visible. ASSIGNING A TEXTURE Assign a texture to the multi-color font by pressing the - (hyphen or minus) key to move through the textures. The box next to the hypen on the status line now displays the currently selected texture and colors. There are the following choices. SPLIT Halves vertically. Color 1: top, color 2: bottom. QUAD Quartered vertically. Color 1 first then color 2. (4th quarter only visible with descenders) CANE Like a barber pole or candy cane, alternating colors 1 and 2. WAVE As in the ocean, halved vertically. Color 1: top, color 2: bottom. SWIRL Close, twisting stripes. Alternating colors 1 and 2. COBBLE A rich cobblestone texture. Color 1 is dominant, color 2 adds dimension. METAL Resembles hammered metal. Color 1 is dominant, color 2 adds dimension. USING THE NEWLY CREATED MULTI-COLOR FONT After assigning texture and color, press F2 (Select Edit Font Size) to select the multi-color font. Color position 00 on the status line palette now contains the multi-color font information. Follow the function key F2 reference for selecting fonts. The multi-color font attributes selected are assigned to the current line only, changing them later will affect all multicolored text on the current line only. Different attributes may be assigned to each line. If you attempt to enter text on a page and nothing appears, check to see if multi-color has been turned on by pressing shift F2, or select color 00 for font color with F2. !-------! !-----!-------! FUNCTION KEY SHIFT F3 ! SHIFT ! ! F 3 ! F ! (Edit Mode) !-------! !-----! ! ! Picture ! PICTURE OPTIONS ! Options ! !-------------! This function deals with pictures created with Amiga software using the IFF ILBM file format (IFF=Interchangeable File Forma, ILBM=Interleaved BitMap). With this function you can import pictures for display and use Pro Video Plus to add text tothem. This function will also allow you to save Pro Video Plus screens for loading into other Amiga software supporting this format. Hold the shift key down and press F3 and the following status line will appear. SELECT PICTURE OPTIONS: (<-->) ON OFF GET LOAD SAVE CLEAR The left and right arrow keys position the cursor, return selects. The following is a summary of the picture options. LOAD (Picture) LOAD copies an IFF picture from a storage device (disk drive, hard disk, etc.) to system memory, making the picture available for later retrieval by way of the GET option. Your Amiga must have at least 1.5 megabytes of memory to load pictures, and the number of pictures you can load will depend on how much memory your system has. Pictures loaded into memory are assigned a number from #00 to #99. The numnbers are assigned in ascending order for #00 as the picutres are loaded. An IFF picture file may contain only one bit plane (2 colors), or up to 4 bit planes (16 colors). As a professional video product, Pro Video Plus only supports expanded video high res9olution displays of 672 horizontal pixels by 440 vertical scan lines. You should use this resolution when creating picutres with other Amiga software for importation into Pro Video Plus. However, if the other software does not support 672 x 400, or if you have a picture already created in another resolution, Pro Video Plus will attempt to re-size the image to 672 x 440 after loading. The following are acceptable resolutions. Horizontal resolutions: 320, 352, 640, 672, 704 Vertical resolutions: 200, 220, 222, 240, 400, 440 444 Other picture resolutions, or brushes will not load into Pro Video Plus. If you want to load a logo, or other graphic, requiring only a portion of the screen, and need to be conscious of memory usage, see information on the Overlay utility in the Advanced Techniques section of this manual. Graphic positioning is also covered there. Because LOAD picture and SAVE picture use the same file selection process it will not be covered twice. Refer to the FILE SECTION PROCESS portion of this function on the next page for further instructions on how to load a picture. SAVE (Picture) The SAVE picture option allows you to save the current Pro Video Plus display scenn to disk in an IFF format for later use in other Amiga software programs. This option is not used to save normal work created with Pro Video Plus's character generator features. They are saved as a bank of 100 pages using the Load/Save Job function. When using this option the current display screen will be saved as a 4 bitmap (16 color), 672 x 444 high resolution, IFF ILBM picture file. Although Pro Video Plus's vertical screen resolution is 440, 4 blank lines will be added during the save routine to facilitate proper loading of the picutre file into Electronic Arts Deluxe Paint II; which supports 672 x 444 screen resolution. Conversely, when loading a 444 vertical resolution picture back into Pro Video Plus the bottom 4 scan lines are eliminated. SAVE picture and LOAD picture use the same file selection process. Therefore, the next portion of this function (FILE SELECTION PROCESS) relates to LOAD picture as well as the SAVE picture option. FILE SELECTION PROCESS To understand the file selection process you should have some familiarity with the Amiga file structure and CLI (Command Line Interface). If this is new to you, refer to the CLI portion of the Advanced Techniques section of this manual. After selecting either SAVE or LOAD from the original picture options menu your next option is displayed on the status line. DISL OPTIONS: QUICK (<-->) LIST The QUICK option can be selected if the complete file pathname is known and the disk with the file you want is currently mounted. The LIST option will allow you to see the names of files on currently mounted disks. You may want to read the following descriptions of these options before making your choice. QUICK option (LOAD/SAVE) The quick option will ask you to enter (from keyboard) the name of the file you wish to load, or save to. The following status line will appear. ENTER NAME -> | * | The * indicates the area where keyboard input will be visible. Type the complete pathname, followed by a return. A complete pathname will consist of a device or label (i.e. df0: or PICS:) followed by a colon, possibly a directory name and slash (i.e. IFF/), and then the filename. Input is limited to 25 characters and the only editing function supported is the backspace. If the entry is valid, the load or save operation will begin. After a save routine, your edit cursor will return on the page you were editing. After a load routine, the picture will be added to the system picture list for later retrieval using the GET picture option. If an invalid entry is made, an error message will display, indicating the type of error. Pressing return exits to edit mode. LIST option (LOAD/SAVE) After selecting the LIST option, the following status line will display. OTHER <--> DFO: DF1: DF2: DH0: DH1: DH2: DH3: DH4: The status line menu cursor will be on <-->. (Pressing return with the status line cursor flashing on the <--> will list the last device used for a disk operation.) Select any of the devices to the right of the cursor, or Other. If you select other, enter the device number or disk label name (followed by a colon (:) when the status line requester appears. If the device requested is mounted, Pro Video Plus will read it's file directory and then list it on the screen. The list may look something like this. > #00 (p dir) DATA #001 ( dir) JOBS #002 ( dir) IFF #003 ( dir) JDKI #004 ( dir) c A selection from list is made using the up and down cursor keys to move the flashing list select cursor in the left column. All items in the list are numbered when displayed on the screen. Pro Video Plus can read directories with up to 100 listings. If you have a long list, you can use the following keys to move through it faster. Shift Cursor Down displays the next ten files of the list. Shift Cursor Up displays the previous ten files of the list. Cursor Down at the last item on screen lists the next ten. Cursor Up at the first item on screen lists the previous ten. Enter number 0 to see items 00-09 (Or enter number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 for items #10-19, and so on.) ESC key to abort and return to editing. The first entry on the list (#000) is always the parent directory (p dir). Selecting this will display either the parent directory of the current directory listed or, if the list is the disk directory request you to select another device. Listings preceeded by ( dir) are sub directories and may include files as well as additional sub directories. Select a ( dir) listing to look inside a directory for other files. To return froma sub directory to it's parent directory, select #00 (p dir). If a listing doesn't have a (p dir), or ( dir) preceeding it, it then is a file and may be loaded or saved to (provided it is an IFF picture file.). A load routine requires the file you want to be listed. However, if you are saving to a new file that doewn't appear yet in the directory listing, select the first blank entry. Pro Video Plus will request you to enter a name. In this case, enter a filename only as device and directory have already been determined by the list process. After a save routine, your edit cursor will return on the page you were editing. After a load routine, the picture will be added to the system picture list for later retrieval using the GET picture option (covered next). GET (Picture) GET retrieves a picture available in the system to use as a background screen on the current page. If the desired picture isn't in system memory, LOAD from the shifted F3 default status line. GET displays the following status line. ENTER #-- of PICTURE (OR) PRESS RETURN FOR LIST Here you may enter the two digit number of the picture you want (if the number is known), or ask to see the current picture directory list. Pressing the return key displays a listing of all currently available picture files and their reference numbers. If the desired picture is not displayed in the current group of ten, press the shift and down arrow key to go forward one group of ten, or the shift and up arrow key to go back one group of ten. When the picture is located in the list, position the select cursor next to its number and press return. ]In a moment the picture will display on the screen and the system will display the following status line. SELECT PAGE PALETTE: (<-->) CURRENT PICTURE Selecting Current uses the current page palette affecting the picture now displayed on the screen. Choosing Picture assigns the picture palette that was loaded with the picture as page palette, affecting any text already on screen. The left and right arrow keys position the status line cursor, return selects. ON & OFF (Picture) Selecting one of these toggle the picture background display on or off. Use off to remove a picture background from the current page. You may select picture Off temporarily for faster text editing, then turn On again when page editing is complete. ON will have no effect if a picture has not previously been selected by GET. ON will turn on the Quick Background if it can't display a picture. CLEAR (Picture Memory) Clears all imported pictures from the picture list and system memory. Allows you to free memory and load new pictures. Pictures are not deleatable individually. !-------! !-----!-------! FUNCTION KEY SHIFT F4 ! SHIFT ! ! F 4 ! F ! (Edit Mode) !-------! !-----! ! ! Quick ! QUICK BACKGROUND OPTIONS ! Background ! !-------------! Pro Video Plus can create a background screen froma text line. Select function key F4 while pressing the shift key. The status line appears with the shift key. The status line appears with the following information. QUICK BACKGROUND OPTIONS: (<-->) ON OFF CREATE CHANGE COPY Use the left or right arrow key and then press return to select an option. These are the different options available with Quick Background. CREATE (Quick Background) Selecting Create presumes you want to create a quick screen background from the current edit line. The following status line will appear. SELECT QUICK BACKGROUND: HORZ SIZE= +/- HORZ POS= <--> & l/r/c/f The edit line is now highlighted with a marker at both ends. Think of the area between the two markers as a stencil. The stencil must be positioned before the template may be cut. The following keys will move the stencil markers accoringly. "-" - decrease width of the stencil. "+" - increase width of the stencil. <--> - position stencil area on the text line. "l" - Left justify stencil area on the text line. "r" - Right justify stencil area on the text line. "c" - Center justify stencil area on the text line. "f" - Reset stencil to full text line width. The stencil will copy any grid (F9), under/accent line (F7), line backgrounds (F10), and any text that appear between the markers; but not other backgrounds or pictures. Press the return key to copy the stencil to memory. The following status line displays. SELECT DISPLAY METHOD: (<-->) TILE WALLPAPER Use the left and right arrow keys to select, then press return. TILE and WALLPAPER effects are described on the next page. TILE (Quick Background) Repeatedly pastes the stencil like a brick wall, staggered diagonally, fills screen background. WALLPAPER (Quick Background) Arranges the stencil in columns, top to bottom, fills screen background. After a quick background has been created, the original text from which the stencil was cut may be cleared with F5 (line/page clear). If you wish to reposition the stencil after creating the quick background, switch the quick background off and cut a new stencil. ON & OFF (Quick Backgroung) Quick backgrounds aren't affected by text written over them. It is usually easier to compose text information on a page with the quick background disabled. Press shift F4 and select the Off option. The quick background is stored in memory, where it will remain unless a new page is selected, or a new quick background is created. Selecting the On function retrieves the quick background. CHANGE (Tile/Wallpaper) Selecting Change will toggle the quick background display to the alternate style, either tile or wallpaper. Press shift F4, select Change and press return. COPY (Quick Background) A quick background may be copied from any page within the current bank to the current page. Press shift F4 and select Copy, followed by return. The following status line is displayed. ENTER #-- OF PAGE TO COPY FROM (OR) RETURN FOR ABORT Enter the page number to copy a quick background from in a two digit format. It will be displayed using the color palette of the current page. If the palette of the originating quick background page is desired, use the copy palette routine (Shift F7). !-------! !-----!-------! FUNCTION KEY SHIFT F5 ! SHIFT ! ! F 5 ! F ! (Edit Mode) !-------! !-----! ! ! Load/Save ! LOAD/SAVE (JOB) ! Job ! !-------------! Loading and saving your work is accomplished through shifted F5. Hold the shift key down and press F5 to display the following status line. SELECT PVP JOB DISK OPERATION: (<-->) LOAD SAVE Place the status line cursor over your selection, using the left or right arrow key. LOAD (JOB) Loading a job will retrieve a previously saved Pro Video Plus Job 100 page bank, replacing the current job in that bank. Pro Video Plus always loads Jobs as a data bank of 100 pages, no matter how many pages actually contain text on them. The SAVE job portion of this section contains more information on this, and how to deal with background pictures and fonts. Because LOAD job and Save job use the same file selection process, it will nto be covered twice. Refer to the FILE SELECTION PROCESS portion of this function for further instructions on how to load a job. SAVE (JOB) Saving a job will store the current bank of 100 pages on disk for later retrieval. To save more than one bank, enter this routine for each bank and save each to a different file name. Pro Video Plus always saves jobs as a data bank of 100 pages, no matter how many pages actually contain text information. This data bank includes all text, line and page attributes (including quick backgrounds), but not pictures. A Pro Video Plus job data bank is an extremely efficient method of storing 100 pages of high resolut8ion screens. Pages are not stored as whole screens, but as ascii text and other data that Pro Video Plus will use to create a screen when you call up a page for display. All 100 pages use less memory than 1 screen would if stored as a whole display. The font data structures used by Pro Video Plus to write text to the screen are separate from the job data file. However, the job data file contains information about the fonts used to create it's pages and these fonts must be in memory for the job to load back in. More information about this is included with alternate font sets available for Pro Video Plus. If you haven't used any alternate fonts, then you need not be concerned with this. If you used picture backgrounds on specified pages, the job data bank will contain the numbers assigned to those pictures when they were loaded. Pictures must be in the same memory location as when the job was originally created and saved. Loading pictures in the same order will correctly display them with the appropriate pages when the job is reloaded into Pro Video Plus. SAVE job and LOAD job use the same file selection process that follows. LINE MOVE OPTIONS: (<-->) UP DOWN TO MEMORY FROM MEMORY Left and right arrow keys control status line cursor position, return selects. MOVE UP (Line) Move cursor to UP. Press return to move current line up one position, press return several times to move up several lines. Move line up stops at the top of the screen. Move select cursor to (<-->) and press return when done. MOVE DOWN (Line) Place cursor on DOWN. Press return to move line down one position. Move select cursor to (<-->) and press return when done. Move line down stops at the bottom of the display screen. TO MEMORY (Line) Put status line cursor on TO MEMORY. Pressing return copies current line to memory and exits the function, allowing you to go to another line or page where it can be retrieved. The stored line will remain in memory until another is stored. Text and all other line attributes are stored. FROM MEMORY (Line) Copies the line stored in memory to a selected line on the page. Position the edit cursor on the stored line destination and select shift F6. Move the status line cursor to the FROM MEMORY option and press the return key to retrieve the stored line. Everything (other than quick backgrounds and pictures) will be replaced when a line FROM MEMORY is retrieved to a line. The edit line must be the same size as the stored line or an error message will display. LINE SIZE ERROR! PRESS RETURN TO ACKNOWLEDGE MESSAGE Press return, move the status line cursor to (<-->) and press return to continue editing your page, or press F1 to re-size the edit line. !-------! !-----!-------! FUNCTION KEY SHIFT F7 ! SHIFT ! ! F 7 ! F ! (Edit Mode) !-------! !-----! ! ! Palette ! SELECT AND MODIFY PALETTE ! Options ! !-------------! Selecting and/or modifying the palette is accomplished with this function. Press shift F7 to display the following. PALETTE OPTIONS: (<-->) MODIFY SELECT COPY MODIFY (Palette) Each page in Pro Video Plus has it's own palette of 16 colors. This palette is created from 4096 available colors. Selecting Modify allows you to change any of the 16 colors of the current page palette. The following status line will be displayed with the normal color bar select menu above it. COLOR = <--> r=00 b=00 g=00 i=inten d=deten c-copy C=CLEAR s=show The left and right arrow keys select one of the colors appearing along the top of the status line. Choose a color, then select one of the following procedures. r,g,b (red, green, blue) Red, Green and Blue are the primary colors used to create any of the 4096 colors available. This is accomplished by choosing an intensity value of 0 to 15 for each of the primary colors. The current r, g, b values for the color selected is numerically stated on the status line. Entering a single lowercase r,g or b keystroke increases the correpsonding color component by a factor of 1, within a range of 00 to 15. Entering an uppercase R, G or B will decrease the component value by 1. i = inten (intensify) Pressing lowercase "i" intensifies the r, g, and b values of the selected color by 1. d = deten (detensify) Pressing lowercase "d" detensifies the r, g, and b values of the selected color by 1. c = copy (copy color) Copy duplicates a color to a second position on the same plette, and is useful if a color is needed twice on the same palette. A situation might require a flash effect (shift F10) and a non-flash text of the same color. To achieve this effect, select a color to be copied, and press the lowercase "c". The following status line displays. COPY THIS COLOR TO COLOR (<-->) - THEN PRESS RETURN Use the left and right arrow keys to select the palette position to copy the selected color to, and press return. The modify status line returns, and the copied color appears in two palette positions. The new locateion becomes the current color selection. C = Clear (clear r, g and b) Pressing uppercase "C" clears the currently selected color to rgb val7ue 00 (black). s = show (show color) Show is useful in locating colors of the palette on the current screen page. Pressing lowercase "s" causes the selected palette color to flash. If the flashing color appears on the current page, it flashes there also. Press "s" again to turn SHOW off. SELECTING A STOCK PALETTE Pro Video Plus has fifteen stock color palettes numbered 01 through 15. Place the status line cursor on Select and press return. The following is displayed. STOCK PALETE #00 SELECT = /\\/ THEN PRESS RETURN Palette #00 is your current page palette. Pressing the cursor up or down key selects one of the 15 stock palettes, displaying your current page with that palette. After selecting a plaette, press return and the palette options status line displays. Pressing return exits to edit mode. The selected palette now becomes the current page palette #00 and also remains at it's original position within the stock palettes. COPY (Palette) To copy a palette from another page to the current page, choose the Copy function and press return. The following status line will display. ENTER NUMBER #-- OF PAGE TO COPY FROM (OR) RETURN FOR ABORT Enter the page number to copy a palette from in a two digit format, for example; 01. The copied palette now becomes the current page palette. CREATING YOUR OWN STOCK PALETTES It is possible for you to customize and create your own stock palettes. Consult the Advanced Techniques section for further information. !-------! !-----!-------! FUNCTION KEY SHIFT F8 ! SHIFT ! ! F 8 ! F ! (Edit Mode) !-------! !-----! ! ! Transitions ! SELECTING TRANSITIONS ! ! !-------------! Every page you create has transition information attached to it. This information determines how it will be transitioned (cone into view on the display screen) when in the page mode of Pro Video Plus. To select, or change, this transition information for the current edit page press the shift and F8 key. The following status line will appear. TRANS=p-00 PASS (+ - pic /\\/ <--> #) s}pd=0 d}wl=00 There are two basic groups of transitions available; Page and Line transitions. Page transitions move the page to the screen as a whole. Line transitions will move the page lines into view in a specified order, or all at once. Transitions have been assigned numbers from #00 to #92, with page transitions first. The status line indicates which group the transition belongs to. A lowercase 'p' before the transition number indicates a page transition and an 'l' indicates line transition. Specific transitions are described further in the Page Mode portion of this Reference Section. If known, you may enter the two digit number of the desired transition, or use the following keys to search the transition list. '+' key selects the next higher numbered transition. '-' key selects the next lower numbered transition. 'p' selects the first page transition in the page transition group. 'l' selects the first line transition in the line transition group. 'c' selects Custom transition #92 which is described further on. In addition, the arrow keys may be used to select the first listed transition of a group ('p'age or 'l'ine) with transitional movement in the direction of the arrow. For example, with a 'p'age transition indicated on the status line pressing the cursor up key will quickly move you to vertical page transitions with an upward movement. SETTING TRANSITION SPEED Other information that appears on the selected transition status line is the speed value; abreviated 's}pd=0'. The lower the number the faster the movement (if any) of the transition. Pro Video Plus allows you to set a speed between 0 and 7; although not all speeds work well with all transitions. Use the lowercase 's' to increase the speed value (slower movement) and the shift 's' to decrease the speed value (faster). SETTING AUTO SEQUENCE DWELL Another value on the status line is auto sequencing dwell tim; abbreviated 'd}wl=00'. This is the time, in seconds, that the page will remain displayed when Pro Video Plus is put into an auto-sequence or auto-cycle mode. Use the 'd' key to add to the dwell seconds, shift 'd' to subtract. Obviously, there is no such dwell as '00'. This simply means write this page and go on to the next as soon as possible. SETTING LINES IN OR OUT Certain of the line transitions will have an 'ALL' appearing on the select transition status line as part of the transition name. This indicates that all lines on the page will be transitioned simultaneously. It also indicates you have another option. You may lock out certain lines from the transition that will appear (as a bang) at the end of the transition as Pro Video Plus changes system screen pointers to the new screen. To set lines in or out press the '*' key when it is indicated as an option on the status line. A new status line appears. SET ALL IN/OUT FOR LINE # = IN (LINE = /\\/ IN -> OUT <--) A line number is indicated on the status line, as well as the line being marked on the display screen. Default sets all lines IN> Select lines with the op and down arrow keys. The left arrow key sets the line OUT. The right arrow keys sets the line IN> When finished press return. CUSTOM LINE TRANSITIONS Custon allow you to bring each line on screen in a different way, and to set the line order in which they will appear. From the select transition status line type a lower case 'c' (for custom), or enter the number 92. When the status line indicates custom transition #92, press the '*' key to set the line transitons and order. LINE = 3 (/\\/) TRANS=PASS (+/-) ORDER=# (#/a/d/n) The status line indicates the screen line number (also marked on screen), the transitional movement for that line and the order assigned to the line. Default values will be 'Pass' as a transition, and the order will begin at the top line and then down. Use the following keys to change these settings. '/\' Cursor up to select for a line higher on the screen. '\/' Cursor down to select for a line lower on the screen. '+' selects a higher numbered transition from the transition list. '-' selects a lower numbered transiton from the transition list. 'a' sets all lines in ascending order (from the top line to bottom). 'd' sets all line in a descending order (from bottom to top). You may also set the transition order by entering a two digit number from 01 to the number of lines on the page. If Pro Video Plus detects that another line has already been set with the order number you enter, it will switch order numbers between that line and the order number that was assigned to the line you are designating. One other option to set line order is using the 'n' (next) key. Using this feature will eliminate the need to remember what order number you last set. Select the first line that you want to come on screen and give it an order number of 01. Using the cursor up and down keys select the other lines in the order you want to appear on screen and press the 'n' key at each line selected. Pro Video Plus will automatically assign that line the next number in the order. !-------! !-----!-------! FUNCTION KEY SHIFT F9 ! SHIFT ! ! F 9 ! F ! (Edit Mode) !-------! !-----! ! ! Set Page ! SET AUTO-CYCLE ! Cycle ! !-------------! Pro Video Plus provides a continuous display feature in the page mode for uses such as an internal communications system or a data display channel on a cable system. This function allows you to set certain pages in or out of the continuous display loop. Pro Video Plus will display all pages in the system over and over until operation is interrupted by the operator. Before you use this function to set the pages for auto cycle you must understand how Pro Video looks at pages for this feature. 1) Pages are organized in groups of ten. Pages 00 through 09 are considered one group of ten, pages 40 through 49 are considered another, and so on. Since a bank consists of 100 pages, there are ten groups of ten pages to each bank. 2) Unless you specifically set groups of pages OUT auto-cycle will look at all pages within the system for possible display. (Pass transition pages will not be displayed.) 3) Pages are looked at sequentially. Page 01 will be displayed before page 02. Group 00-09 will display before group 10-19. If multiple banks are used, they will display sequentially, for example; bank 1, b, c, d, etc. 4) Pages, groups of pages and banks are displayed once during an auto cycle. Pages cannot be displayed randomly or more than once during a cycle. (You may display a page more than once by duplicating it to another page in the system.) 5) When you select this function you are only setting auto-cycle in and out for the groups of the current bank of pages you are working in. To set groups for other banks of pages you have in the system you must go to any page within the specific bank and then use this function again. To set the page groups to be displayed in auto-cycle mode, hold the shift and press the F9 key. The following status line appears. SET AUTO-CYCLE a #00-09 (/\\/) IN (<- = OUT -> = IN) All page groups default IN. The up and down arrow keys select page groups, the right arrow key sets a group IN to the sequence, the left sets it OUT. The current bank is indicated on the status line. Press return when all groups have been set. !-------! !------!-------! FUNCTION KEY SHIFT F10 ! SHIFT ! ! F 10 ! F ! (Edit Mode) !-------! !------! ! ! Color Cycle/ ! COLOR CYCLING/FLASH ! Flash ! !--------------! Color cyclking is a method of animating text, or pictures, bu rotating a series of colors. This gives the text or picture displayed with these colors the illusion of movement or change. Color cycling isaccomplished by selecting two colors from the current palette and instructing the program to cycle all colors from the first through the second within a specified amount of time. The cycle then repeats until a page transition occurs specifying a new page palette. Color flash is used to draw attention to certain texyt or graphics and is achieved by selecting one color to be repeatedly replaced with another from the current palette. Like cycle, flash speed is adjustable, and continues until the page transition specifies a new page color palette. There are four independent channels of color cycle/flash available per page. Pressing shift F10 allows you to set them. The first status line within this function will displ
