4]------------------- 3]SUBMITTING MATERIAL 4]------------------- 3]FREELANCE UPDATE We're receiving far too many games. Let's have some music. Let's have some utilities. We could go for educational programs, for home finance, productivity and those weird no-category-whatsoever programs. 3]SELL THE EGGS, NOT THE HEN JUMPDISK recommends you NEVER sell all rights to your work. There are good reasons. You may be able to sell a given work for publication more than once -- in different markets. You control how, when and where your work appears. You retain the right to incorporate your work into future programming or writing projects you might have. 3]SEND US YOUR WORK - WE PAY AND PROMPTLY JUMPDISK is a paying market for programs, articles, art and music. In 1989, our freelance budget topped $39,000. In 1990 it will go higher. Our strict policy is to pay for material at the same time the issue containing it goes out to users. Programs with documentation fetch from $25 to $500. Average pay is $250. Articles take away $25 to $200. One-time publication right is purchased, and other rights remain with the author. JUMPDISK users love clear, concise tutorials. We need more of these. Games are always welcome. No simplistic rehashes, please. ALL SUBMITTED MATERIAL MUST BE THE ORIGINAL WORK OF THE PERSON WHO SUBMITS IT. Programs should run on any Amiga with at least 512K memory and an external disk drive operating under Workbench 1.3. 3]WHAT WE WANT IS WHAT YOU GOT We can use programs in any language that works on the Amiga. We publish an eclectic mix of programs and articles. Readers say they prefer utilities and tutorials but complain when we don't offer enough games. If submitted work has already appeared elsewhere, let us know. Please format text in a maximum 76 characters across. Programs should have icons, unless they work only from the CLI. If a program has more than one file, put them all in one drawer. Include full instructions on how your program runs. If these are not within the program itself, they must be in the form of documentation that is on a disk as a single ASCII file. We prefer that on ending, a program break back to the Workbench screen. Put all needed files of a program within a single drawer. If your program is in compiled Amiga Basic, please also include a Basic version of the program. We prefer to publish compiled Basic but wish to also publish the listings for reader study. Art screens should have icons. Articles are REQUIRED in an ASCII disk file in TEXT 80. We prefer text formatted in plain ASCII. Working with most other word processor formats means we have to reformat the text. So if you really want to make us happy, make your text plain vanilla ASCII. The test? Try to access it with ED. If it fails with a FILE CONTAINS BINARY message, then it will cause us trouble. Don't use formatting code in text. Print hard copy of both program listings and articles -- unless you have no printer. Label disks carefully and completely. Include your name, address and telephone number. If your opus requires transfer to another disk, include clear and exact step-by-step instructions of how it is done. If you put everything in one drawer, it's simple -- click and drag. Include a brief letter describing the nature of your submission. If you prefer, send us a query letter first. Always enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope that is roomy enough to contain your entire submission. The postage should be affixed. It should be in the form of stamps, not postage meter labels. There should be sufficient postage affixed to ensure return of your material. For submissions from beyond the U.S., just include a self-addressed envelope. We'll be happy to cover the return postage. Send submissions to: JUMPDISK SUBMISSIONS 1493 Mt. View Ave. Chico, CA 95926 U.S.A. It can take us more than two months to give you the decision. Why so long? When we put together an issue, we consider everything we have, then make selections for that month. Everything else must wait.
