Using your 1084 monitor for TV/Video dumping

   BioPic:

   Some Amiga users in the Burwood (NSW) area might remember my name, as the
  (hopefully) cheerful and helpful salesman from ComputerSpot (Ooops, am I
  allowed to mention the competition, Tim?)  So that's what I used to do.

   Now, I'm a gardener, with a brand new A600 and very little software, as
  yet.  A few days ago I took a trip down to Electronic Arts at Southport, to
  get a patch to enable the 600 to emulate the numpad keys, Many thanks to
  Rennie and the helpful staff for their time to U/G Dpaint to 4.1 and supply
  the numpad emulator, which works fine, although the docs misprinted one
  key.

   I'll send this to you as well as a DPaint diagram, showing the keys to
  use.


   Also, I'm using my old monitor as a TV, and although I'm sure many
  hedgehog haters out there do so also, maybe there are some new users who
  could benefit from this information.


   I have a 1084s monitor and use a Teac MV-307 Video as a tuner, the
  advantages are:

	Able to watch TV and use computer at the same time
	Can view what you want to dump to video tape-while actually taping!
	(Either using RF modulator or Composite Out)
	Able to use computer and listen to your favorite music show


  Main Disadvantage:

	You cannot tape one channel and watch a different one at the
	same time (which I hardly do anyway)

   HOW TO DO IT:

   From either Tricky Dicky or Tandy purchase:

  1  (Video cable) one RCA to one RCA connector
  1  (Audio cable) one RCA to one RCA connector   	  (1084  users only)
  1  (Audio cable) one RCA to two RCA connector ( Y-Cable ) (1084s users only)

   To ensure best quality both for sound and picture, ensure you get the
  correct cable (Video or Audio) as both have different resistance properties
  etc.


   PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER:


   Working from the VIDEO, plug the VIDEO RCA into your VIDEO OUT socket,
  then plug the other RCA into the CVBS/L at the monitor end.

   Now plug the single AUDIO RCA into the AUDIO OUT socket and the other end
  into the Left and Right Audio sockets. For 1084 users use the single AUDIO
  cable and connect AUDIO OUT (Video) to AUDIO IN (Monitor).


   ENJOYING YOUR NEW TOY:


   For AMIGA usage

   Connect the 1084(s) to AMIGA video cable and (if your usage requires
  AMIGA sound the necessary audio cables) turn on the AMIGA, the monitor and
  select RGB from the FRONT panel (Button in the OUT position)


   For TV useage


   Turn on your VIDEO ensuring your audio leads are connected to the MONITOR
  Select CVBS from the front panel (Button pushed IN) ... Enjoy!


   TO TAPE FROM AMIGA TO VIDEO:

   Plug your RF lead from your RF modulator (A520 type or A600/1200 Built-In)
  to your AERIAL IN on your VIDEO, tuning it to the recommended channel (UHF
  36 I think?) then connect the AUDIO leads from the AMIGA to the AUDIO IN
  on the video, Once you have a clear picture and sound, your ready to go.

	   --------------------------------------------------------
	   Don't forget to LOCK the channel into the videos' memory
	   --------------------------------------------------------

   Now adjust the colour and contrast slightly darker than normal (5%) press
  record and run your fave game or whatever. This will tape whatever is
  playing on the AMIGA to your tape. I suggest viewing the production in
  monitor mode as this will give your eyes a rest.


   COMPOSITE VIDEO:

   On the A600/1200 there is provision for a color composite output (as
  opposed to MONOCHROME composite on the A1000/2000 series).

   To use this output (usually for better quality than RF) use a VIDEO cable,
  the same as the one you are using for the video to monitor. (1 VIDEO RCA
  to RCA.)

   Plug one end into the COMPOSITE OUT socket on the AMIGA and plug the other
  end into the VIDEO IN on your videorecorder. On my video (TEAC) I have
  seperate VIDEO IN / AUDIO IN on the front panel, I connect to these a
  switch the VCR from TV/VCR operation to LINE function. On other videos I
  think you would connect to CAMERA /VIDEO /EXTERNAL IN and select either
  CAMERA or EXTERNAL, switch to CVBS on the front panel to view the output
  quality or RGB to watch from the Monitor output to save eyestrain.


   HINT:

   When taping avoid bright colours as these tend to blur/bleed, I find it
  helps by selecting a BLACK screen, (e.g. DPaint default with menus off) and
  typing one line of text in the different fonts you will be using and in
  different colors, or use the different sample DPaint Palettes.

   (I cheat, I use the various SCREEN TEST pics from the workbench (2.0) or
  the excellent TV test pattern from SCALA500. (Hey, all this great software
  (is?)/should be available from Tim at Megadisc! Ed: So it is.)

   Anyway, I hope this keeps you busy. If you plug the wrong lead in and blow
  something up, DON'T blame me.. and please NEVER connect anything to AMIGAS
  or VIDEOS with the POWER ON, not only could you blow a chip in the computer
  you may cause a short and electrocute yourself.
