EDUCATIONAL DISKS   CHILDRENS EDUCATIONAL (ED 1 - 10)  (PRIMARY SCHOOL LEVEL AND LOWER)  (10 disk pack) ED 1 Blackboard Maths - A nicely presented program for learning the basics or mathematics (+ - x /) with the screen set up lie a black board with a hand that writes the sums etc on the board. ChangePointer - Some nicely done animated mouse pointers. ColorPad - A nice little paint program for children. Games - Cat&Mouse - Can you get the cheese before the cat gets you? Shark - Odd games where a frog shoots sharks, nice large colourful graphics. Concentration - The classic games of turning two cards at a time to match up pairs. Galactic Worm - Get the worm food and he grows if he grows too long for you to control then eat the rocks. ED 2 NOTE: These programs are written in AmigaBasic and won't run on a 2.0 or higher system. Education - SpellQuiz - A spell quiz program for kids. AddiDrill - An addition drill program. MultiDrill - A multiplication drill program. FlowerGarden - A basic paint program for kids to "paint" a flower garden. Very nice. Puppy - A puzzle game where you have to try to get the puppies to sit in a row so you can take their picture, but they don't want to! They only want to eat the bones, so you need to coax them into a line. StepStone - A puzzle game with coloured squares. You must move around and collect the numbers but you can only move from the colour you are on to a specified colour. 2 player game. Tug - A variation on the hangman game. This one is two player and each player thinks of a word and tries to guess the other players word letter by letter. Each player is protrayed on screen by a little man. The game is a tug-o-war type with a cliff in the middle of the screen. If you guess a wrong letter you get pulled towards the cliff. If you guess correct you pull your opponent. ED 3 Math Drill - An education maths drill program. You can select different types of operations to practice (+ - x /) and different difficulty levels. ED 4 Count Fun and DivisionTest V1.1 are two more maths learning programs. Lots of features and dificulty level to choose from. Great for the kids. ED 5 Noddy - A demo version of a new Noddy program for children. Has different features like colouring in and a simple jigsaw puzzle for kids to piece together the animals. ED 6 Simon Says Colours and SpaceMaths (NBS A135) Educational games Simon has instructions; SpaceMaths is pretty self-explanatory. Definitely kiddies stuff, but not bad for the genre. (DR 22/5/91) ED 7 MULTIPLY ATTACK Mark Ward wrote and sent in this educational (that word...) game to help kids learn their times tables. Dad, here's your excuse for buying the Amiga! ED 8 JASON LOWE'S GAME DISK *** UPDATED August 92 *** NUMBERS UP (now V. 1.2) Brilliant game. Numbers move along the bottom of the screen. Hit the button to fire them to the ceiling. If they land on or next to another number, the two are multiplied and added to your score. If they land next to or on an identical number, though, g ame over. Ditto if you fill up a column. Fun, bootable, iconned, sent in by Jason Lowe, the (local) author. CIRCLES UP - Game not unlike Numbers up above with differences. STAR V. 1.0 - program with tutorial on C programming & source in C. THE MATHS ADVENTURE - Educational adventure game which requires you to answer maths questions to move from place to place and to solve the riddle, to which clues are given with correct answers. This disk will soon be updated again, and there is full documentation for everything here. See MD27 & MD29 for examples of Jason's work. ED 9 STORYLAND 2 (Amiganuts 1206) Storyland 1 never appeared, so here's the sequel to the non-existent original (?). Storyland is a very acceptable AMOS adventure game for kids, mainly mouse controlled and great fun. It seems pitched at just the right level, doesn't get patronising and generally keeps the interest up. It also carries an anti-vivisection message about as subtle as a head butt, but that does no harm. Definitely worth a look if you own a short person who might appreciate it. Bootable. ED 10 EDU-DEMOS Non-bootable but iconned disk containing mainly usable demo versions of Bill Jordan's educational titles. Included is Boxes (similar to the pencil-and-paper game), Frazzel (Concentration), Hangman, Reading (tests speed), Solo Whist, Traveller (odd little program which traces where it's been) and Wordsquare (find words amongst random letters). Not bootable, but iconned. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .  ADULTS EDUCATIONAL (ED 11-20)  (HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL AND ABOVE)  (10 disk pack) ED 11 Calc - V3.0 of a small feature packed calculator displayed on the workbench screen. Has scientific functions like sin, cosh etc. CalcKey - V1.0, it is a memory resident pop-up calculator program, with all the essential basic functions. Cloud - Creates fractal surfaces which resemble satellite pictures of the ground or clouds. Evo - Interesting program which shows evolution of "man" over the past 20 million years. Shows a skull which evolves as you move the slider along the timescale. Aso contains information about evolution, man and where in africa the earliest "men" appeared. Evolution - A simulation of bugs eating bacteria. Formula - Hermes' Formula V1.0 is another maths plotter program but can plot graphs as a 3D view. Very nice results. Func2D - A 2 dimensional function plotter, very nice. Units - A program for converting between various units. Lots of different units included. Worm - The classic "worms" program of worms wriggling around the screen. Options include the number of worms, their length and their width. ED 12 German - A German language tutor program using speech to teach you the correct pronunciation of the German words and phrases.1 LEX - Gives a detailed analysis on a text file including word count, long word count, sentence count, and 3 readability algorythms to give an indication on the grade level and difficulty of the text. It is a cli only program. SpToy - SpeechToy is a program for playing with the speech capabilities of the amiga. It brings up a small window with all the options for the "say" command being accessed by the buttons in the window. Also includes a resizable head which "speaks" to you. Study - Study Aid Card File V1.0 is a card file system which can be used as a study aid or as a catalogue for whatever. Tutor - Talking Spelling Tutor uses the amiga speech capability to help you memorize spelling words, foreign words, physical constants, names of places, etc. It's an open-ended build-it-yourself type of program for you to contruct your own lessons. ED 13 AirFoil - A program which shows the pressure areas around a wing cross-section with lots of parameters to alter the section. GravityWell - Another very nice grav sim. It comes with a scientifically correct datafile of the solar system so you can watch the planets orbit the sun or see what affect a large comet passing close to the sun might have. GravSim - A very nice gravity simulator with a record mode so you can record an animation of the gravity sim you have set up. The_Weather! - A weather forecaster which requires you to enter the barometric pressure and wind direction so it can give you a forecast for the next few days. ED 14 Capitals - A states and capitals (american) quiz program. DrawMap - V2.0, this programs draws representations of the Earth's surface. Lots of features such as zoom and colouring. Elements - V1.3, this program shows the periodic table with heaps of very detailed data about the elements. Just click on an element to display it or shift-click on two and get the relationship between the two such as bondage. GeoTime - Two versions of thsi "clock" program. The first displays a map of the earth with various times marked in and the earths shadow which will scroll across the map in real time. The second is the same except it is based on a globe. By the author of the wonderful Galileo astronomy program. Globe - This demo just shows a small window will a revolving earth. ED 15 Crossword Creator V1.0 - Guess what this one does! It can easily create crosswords of all sizes, symetrical or not etc. ED 16 Audio Gallery Demo - Contains demo versions of the English, Japanese and Russian versions. This commercial program contains pictures for various topics (such as travel, shopping etc) with items marked. By clicking on the marked items a digitised voice will give you the translation of what it is in the language you are learning. ED 17 SCRAZZLE By Mr and Mrs C. J. Edwards. Needs 1meg. Crosswordy-Scrabbly game, with a large repertoire of word and an excellent checking program. Excellent educational game. Ed: The authors are local programmers and also wrote the programs in the "COMPENDIUM" disk (MISC 33). The list of words exceeds 100,000 I believe. Original, interesting and educational. ED 18 Quiz (NBS A059) Simple quiz game - asks you questions on various subjects, then asks you if you got it right (trusting, isn't it). No better or worse than any of the many other attempts at this sort of thing. (DR 22/5/91) ED 19 ETHOS W. Jordan sent in this BlitzBasic game, in which the player can scoot around legendary Greece and its environs, involving him or herself with all the quests in the textbooks. Graphics are pretty blocky and it can get repetitive, but I think it'd be fine for kids. ED 20 COMPLEX This excellent locally written game has been released into the public domain by its authors at SwanSoft. The game is a combination of quiz and word-hunting in a grid. An editor is included so you can make your own levels, and if you register the game you can use a variety of data disks compiled by the authors. Well presented, easy to use and genuinely educational. Requires 1meg.; bootable and iconned.
