Commodore, Amiga and Commodore-Amiga are registered trademarks of Commodore Business Machines ====================================================================== OverView -------- Well, after "reading" all that mumbo-jumbo, I s'pose (hope?) that you're wondering what this thing is for... Well, briefly, it's a simple ARexx script file that can be used for installing Megadiscs onto a hard drive (or anywhere else that's large enough). ====================================================================== Requirements ------------ 1. An Amiga (surprising really...) 2. ARexx (never would have guessed would you...) 3. One or more Megadiscs (do we really need this section????) ====================================================================== Usage ----- First of all put as many Megadiscs as you wish to install (and can) into the available disk drives. (DON'T TAKE OUT THE DISK CONTAINING THIS PROGRAM!) Eg. If you just received Megadisc 29 (which is a two disk set) you could insert MD29A into DF0: and MD29B into DF1:, or if you wished to install MD27-29 (all of which are two disk sets) you might put MD27A&B into DF0: and DF1: respectively and wait until those are installed to continue... Then, if ARexx is not already running (it is automatically under the Workbench 2.0 Sartup-Sequence), type "RexxMast" in the CLI or Shell. Eg. If you bought ARexx seperately and haven't gotten around to installing it into the SUS, but have installed it onto your hard drive you might have the following CLI session: 1> CD SYS:System 1> RexxMast You now have two options. Start from Workbench, or from CLI. FROM WorkBench Simply double click on the supplied icon. FROM CLI Type, in the CLI, "RX MD_Install" Eg. If you just unarchived an archive containing this to DF0: you might type: 1> RX DF0:MD_Install NB: If you recieve a message such as: RX: Unknown command You have not added the directory that RX is in to the path list. You might try: 1> SYS:REXXC/RX MD_Install Otherwise, consult a good directory utility (eg. DirectoryOpus by Jon Potter :-) or, if you're fluent with the CLI, look for it the hard way... If you can't find, try reinstalling it from your original disks. If something like this occurs: 1> RX MD_Install Command returned 5/1: Program not found then you haven't got MD_Install anywhere accessible. Try typing the path name before "MD_Install", ie "DF0:MD_Install". Otherewise, run from workbench instead. ====================================================================== At RunTime ---------- When you get the thing running, the onscreen prompts should be clear enough. A few points might need mentioning though. When you see a prompt such as: Install MEGADISC29A: (Y/n) > it infers that two options are available, Y (yes) or N (no). As "Y" is, in this case, a capital letter, it is the default answer. So if you were being stupid (or french) and pressed o (oui...) you would get yes... If you pressed return you would get the same. If you answer something utterly pathetic like: "I really don't think that I would like to install that disk, thanks anyway." the computer would ignore everything other than the first letter ("I") and as "I" is not equal to "N" or "n" it would take it as "Y" and continue. So PLEASE don't be stupid! Of course if you do something like that you could simply install it to NULL: or NIL:... When you've finished the first round of installation you will be asked to decide wether or not you wish to have another go. If you select a (again) the computer will again list the available Megadiscs and ask you if you wish to install them. If you didn't take the disks out (fool that you are ;-> ( ":->" = Smiley, ";->" = sarcasm) then just answer "N" to all the prompts then CHANGE THE DISKS before answering "A" to try again...
