Duck Tales can be generally described as a comic adventure. Which it is! The attention to detail by the Disney graphic artists is commendable. You can even take old Scrooge for a swim in his vast money bin and find some valuable old coin. PURPOSE The purpose of this graphic adventure, is to become DIME magazine's DUCK of the YEAR. This is achieved by starting of with no money at all, competing against Scrooge's financial rival, Glamgold, the winner being the one who has amassed the greater amount of money within a thirty day period. And as the saying goes, "the world is your oyster". THE PLAYERS All the familiar faces from the TV are to be found in this adventure. Scrooge of course being the main player. The three nephews, Huey, Dewey, and Louie offering Scrooge advice from the Junior Woodchuck guide book. Gyro Gearloose, inventing teleport machines. Launchpad McQuack - Scrooges pilot and aviation buff Fenton Crackshell - Who pops up from time to time to advise Scrooge on financial matters. Webby - Whose speciality is wildlife photography (and who will come in handy in game play) And Finally, Glamgold, Scrooge's Arch Rival who pops up throughout the program trying to stir Scrooge up. GAME PLAY Game play is simple. After the initial animation sequences between Scrooge and Glamgold, the player can access three areas of Scrooges office. 1) The investment computer 2) The vault 3) The world map and electronic atlas 1) The investment computer is used once you have made some money, to obviously make more. However, sometimes things backfire and you lose money, just like in the real world! 2) The vault can be used to swim in and if a rare coin is found, Scrooge can make some money ($1000) with it. 3) The world map is used for plotting treasure gathering trips throughout the world, and also incorporates an electronic atlas. The atlas tells of treasures and their value that can be found at various locations throughout the world. Once you have decided upon a location to search treasure for, you then need to log a flight plan. This is simply done through clicking on the plane icon at the bottom of the screen. Once the flight plan has been filed, Launchpad will gladly take you to your destination, as long as you fly the plane. This is not as easy as it sounds, as sometimes there are many obstacles to be encountered on the way. Also if you do some aerobatics a long the way you will earn some extra money. Some of these obstacle that can be encountered are: 1) Storm clouds 2) Balloons dropping fridges and grand pianos on your plane 3) A barn at the end of the runway 4) Fire works rockets being launched at you If you crash, then you will probably lose some money and also the plane will take a number of days to be repaired by Gyro. One of the problem areas is landing the plane. It is all too easy to crash on the runway. TREASURE LOCATIONS There are quite a number of treasure locations to be searched. They fall into four main groups. Mountains (requiring mountain climbing), Swamps (with the Tarzan bit, swinging from tree to tree), Caves or Mines (watch out for pits and mummies), and finally, the Jungle where you must photograph unusual animals. There are three levels of game play, EASY MONEY, STANDARD WAGES, HARD EARNED WAGES. It is possible even for the youngest player to win (with a bit of patience) when playing for easy money. With Scrooge being awarded the prestigious accolade of being DIME MAGAZINE'S DUCK OF THE YEAR. In all this is a fun to play, and at times very humourous game and is well worth recommending. There is no disk copy protection, but a password (which changes) is required to use the world map etc. This comes with the documentation. It is available for about $59.95. ## 24 ## 24 ## 24 ## 24 ## 24 ## 24 ## 24 ## 24 ## 24 ## 24 ## 24 ##
