 I have a policy not to get involved with the production of ACC,as I leave
 the decision as to what goes into each issue,entirely up to my Editor Mark.

 However,Dave Edwards asked a valid question on issue 19 that deserves an
 answer,even though it will not be completely to his satisfaction.
 In issue 19,Dave was asking just how many customers of ACC actualy bought
 each issue,compared to those that had it passed on etc.

 O.K. Here goes...


 After seeing it's potential,I took over the Distribution/Copyright of the
 ACC disks from Mark,in October 1990.
 Since that time,I have been working hard to get it recognised worldwide
 and allthough it's been a hard slog getting people around the globe to not
 just look at the disk,but to actualy decrunch your source codes and then
 assemble the progs etc,my somewhat expensive,(postage wise),attempts are
 only now just coming to fruition.

 During the last three Months,contracts have been signed for the ACC disks
 to be sold in Italy,Australia and New Zealand,I can also state that at this
 moment,even the tech officer at Commodore is showing interest in it!,so
 your letters,tutorials,source and most important of all,your NAMES are
 becoming known worldwide.

 Now to the reason I said that Dave might not be completely happy with my
 reply...I can catagoricaly state that thousands are reading/using the ACC
 disks,but I cannot give the circulation figure for a good reason:-

 Some MANY Months ago,I went through an expensive ordeal from a real pain
 in the ass,who kept returning his disk,asking a question about a particular
 problem he was having and then after answering his query,explaining what
 he was doing wrong he would do it all over again,with another query!!
 Why do I call someone who has an enquiry a PAIN IN THE ASS? Well to start
 with,nothing was wrong with the disk,it was him,he expected me to send
 him an answer every single time that he hit a problem!
 Now,allthough I enjoy helping people,I DO expect a customer to have the
 decency,(so does Mark,by the way),to enclose the return postage and after
 the fourth time that this chap sent back yet another question,I wrote and
 very politely explained that he had cost me £1.50 in postage and had
 succeeded in not only using up all the profit I had made on the sale of the
 disk to him,but also the VAT that I had paid on it!
 Guess what he said?
 He replied that he didn't see why he should pay for postage and besides,he
 did'nt buy it from me anyhow,it was passed on to him!!!!!
 Well,from that issue onwards I decided to give every purchaser of the ACC
 disks a personal number and unless I have your name registered as a buyer,
 I am not prepared to help with any problems.
 This may seem bloody minded to some,but to keep our heads above water and
 make sure that ACC does not sink into that great tory bankruptcy pit,I
 have to do this.

 So the moral is,as long as you are a registered purchaser of ACC,I or Mark,
 will do our best to help/advise on your problem,providing of course that
 you enclose an S.A.E. for return postage.

 I'd like to come in on the end of this one. Not to add to Rays opinion,
but to give you some idea of the time I spend wrapped up in spinoffs of
ACC.

 I work full time, I also have two part time jobs. ALL my spare time goes
into putting the ACC disc together, writing code ( which I'd do anyway )
and writing letters. Some months I've replied upto a hundred and fifty
letters, the majority of them from absolute beginners who are in a
situation I was in a couple of years ago. I enjoy helping them!

 Back to my point. I can receive over a hundred and fifty letters in one
month, but not even a tenth of those contribute to the disc. I do not make
the same distinction as Ray in asking people for registration numbers, but
the majority of mail does get answered sooner or later ( Yeah, I know it`s
normally later ).

 I think the amount of material contributed should reflect the circulation,
but this is just not the case. How many times have I asked people to send
something I can include on the disc when they write to me. Not just source
code, but letters, original graphics, modules, a request for a specific
program and I could go on. People do send me problems and requests on paper
which I try to reply to, but I dont have time to copy these onto disc. I'm a
terrible typist.

 As you can see, this is another attempt by me to get you to send something
in. Even if it's just a small file saying who and where you are, if enough
people sent them we`d get a good idea of how far the disc is reaching. If
it caught on I`d build a master file up:

 Well, it`s up to you. I know everyone who contributes to the disc would
like to know it's circulation. Send something in and give them an idea.
