PSYGNOSIS presents an Amiga game by REFLECTIONS "SHADOW OF THE BEAST II" THE BEAST IS BACK! The sequel to the Top Selling Amiga Game of 1989 THE CONFLICT CONTINUES... The following is a simple walk-thru for Psygnosis' latest and greatest effort Shadow of the Beast II for those having difficulties getting started in the game. Do not read the following text if you haven't committed at least a few hours to playing the game...that would ruin the game for you, since Beast II is not very long. It is, however, very easy to find yourself stuck in this game with no choice but to reboot (especially if you are using the cheat mode). The following text will show you the order in which you must complete the various tasks without winding up stranded. KARA-MOON. (left) You may wish to begin playing Beast II by activating the cheat mode. This greatly increases your chances of completing the game, because Beast II is very hard (like most Psygnosis arcade games). To do this, go to the right and talk to the first enemy you see. Ask him about "TEN PINTS" and you will recieve the following message "This one's for you, Roger. Cheat mode now active." You can also ask him about other things, but no information you extract from him is vital to your quest. Like Beast I, you must complete the left side of the game first before exploring the scenes to the right. Begin running to the left, through the forest and beyond the bridge with the killer fish. Free the prisoner the demon is carrying away by jumping and clobbering it with your mace. Take care not to injure the prisoner. Ask the guy you freed about "TRAPS" and he will tell you vital information about a switch. It will either be "LOWER" or "UPPER". Be sure to make a note of which switch it is. Next, climb down the rope a bit and jump over to the ledge on the left. Go left until a demon flies past you to the right. Follow it and kill it with your mace before it cuts the rope. Wait for the demon pushing the spikes to reach the edge before killing it. Now go the left and the disk drive will begin to load. Once it is done, a flying demon will appear. Destroy it and take the key it drops. Go left, past the seesaw, and climb the rope. Make a jump over to the entrance on the right (at the very top of the rope). Use your key to open the door. You will come upon two switches. Hit the switch the prisoner told you about (see above). Don't even try to guess. Get in the elevator and wait for it to take you up. Go the right and get on the rope. Go down the rope and jump on the ledge to the right (if you try to jump from the top of the rope, you will hit the wall and wind up falling). Climb one of the ropes and open the chest (1 of 6). Collect the coins. Go back down and then right, where you should find a strange-looking key. Take the key, then go back to where you saw the sleeping demon. The top switch will raise the rope, leaving you stranded, and the lower switch will make a bridge (more on that later). You must jump from the rope and land to the left of the demon at the table, in front of the caged animal. If you land on the demon, or to the right of the demon, it will quickly wake up and throw the top switch, letting the animal out and raising the rope, leaving you stranded. (You do have a few seconds in which to kill the demon before it makes it to the switch. If you can, do so.) Use the key to open the animal's cage. It will scare the demon off. Hit the lower switch and climb out of there. Go back down the elevator. Go left 'till you come to a huge boulder. Be extra careful not to destory the boulder with your mace. You will notice three switches on the wall. Here's what they do: | o <= opens, closes the clamp |/ |-o <= move the crane left and right |\ | o <= move the crane's arm up and down Move the crane to the left, and lower it. While the arm is coming down, hit the upper switch and get a grip on it. Pick it up, then move it right with the middle switch. Drop it on the spike by hitting the upper switch again. It will explode and all that will be left is a little chunk. Move the little chunk across the bridge you made and onto the seesaw. Now climb the rope and jump off at the top, landing on the seesaw. The little chunk will go flying into the air. Quickly(!) run left and into the elevator. It will take you up through the branches. Here you will encounter Ishran, the evil dragon. Do not bother talking to Ishran, he lies. Destroy Ishran and save the prisoner in the sack (just hit the sack with the mace until it falls). The prisoner will give you a password! Go down the rope and to the left. Collect the coins in the chest. Go into the Oasis and get the container of ale. Go all the way to the right from there and down the branches. When prompted for the password, enter the word Ishran's prisoner told you. Once inside, climb the rope and get the parchment from Barloom, the good dragon. Make sure you get the gold coins before leaving (down and to the right). You are now done with the entire left portion of the game. From the beginning of the game, go right and begin climbing up the rocks. Kill the green creature on the bridge and get the axe. Get the 12 gold coins from the two treasure chests. Find the thin lump of grass and jump on it repeatedly until it gives way. THE CRYSTAL CAVERNS. Get the coins from the chest, bringing your total up to 36 if you didn't miss any chests. Once you get close to the bridge, move the pointer to the axe (but don't hit the fire button - the axe only lasts ten seconds). Shoot the demon that is retracting the bridge with the axe. Do this by hitting fire when you hit the gate, and jumping up and down shooting at the height of your jump. Once you have penetrated the enemy's outer defenses, climb the first rope you see and hit the switch labeled "SPIKES". This will disable the spikes to the left of you for ten seconds (not that it matters with the cheat mode). Go to the left past the spikes and hit the switch. Come back and climb down the other rope. You'll land in the midst of a bunch of demons. Run to the right and get the key, then move over to the left and let the cage fall on you. You are supposed to be captured. Once in the cell, don't hit the door or the other prisoner will be fried. Instead, offer the ale to the guard. He'll fall asleep. Now break down the door. Quickly climb the rope and kill the demon at the top. If you don't in time, the demon will kill the prisoner trying to escape. Now kill the sleeping demon and take a 2nd key. Climb the rope and take the first left. Free the prisoner in the cell above yours. The prisoners will move over to a door. Go to the top and take a left. Get the Old Man's ring from the demons. Go right and open the door with your last key. Keep up with one of the prisoners and they will make it out alive (although it really doesn't matter). Leave. You are now done with the Crystal Caverns. KARA-MOON. (right) Go down the rope to the right onto the rock. Jump to the right (be careful, one is actually a creature). Kill the huge red monster that appears. Jump to the right and climb up the rope (if you miss, be prepared to grab onto a second rope quickly). You'll come to a bridge. Lure the big enemy onto the middle of the bridge and it will make a hole. Jump the hole for now (if you fall in, the Old Man will be gone when you come back!). Offer the Old Man his ring. He will then accept the parchment, and will make you a weapon capable of destroying Zelek, the Beast-Mage. Backtrack and fall down the hole in the bridge. You'll soon be in another land, much different from Kara-Moon... SNAIL WORLD. Go right and get a horn. Then climb down the rope and jump to the right. You'll meet up with a cynical snail. Ask the snail about "KARAMOON" and for all of the gold you have collected (you mustn't miss a singe chest), he will take you back there. KARA-MOON. (right) (cont.) You'll appear right where the Old Man was (he'll be gone). Go right and jump off the ledge. Go past the frog-things and the worms. When you get to the edge, you'll be unable to jump. Play the horn, and a Tragon will appear out of the water and take you across the lake to Zelek's castle! ZELEK'S CASTLE. Go down the stairs (don't bother going up, it's just a locked door). Slay Zelek with the weapon the Old Man gave you. GAME OVER! The ending to Beast II, like Beast I, is a boring static screen. The doors are definitely wide open for a sequel! Maletoth, the Beast-Lord, is still a threat! Look for Beast III: The Final Encounter coming soon! COMING SOON FROM PSYGNOSIS!! A.W.E.S.O.M.E. The creators of Shadow of the Beast have been hard at work on their new shoot 'em up adventure for Psygnosis, featuring Amiga-exclusive hardware support. The game features at least three scenarios, including an overhead combat sequence where all the scenery rotates 360 degrees around your ship, and infinite levels of parallax scrolling of stars. Once off the ship, your guy runs around shooting aliens. The object includes hopping planets to make your escape. A.W.E.S.O.M.E. also features a super-fast Space Harrier-like sequence at 50 frames-per-second! Gore The creators of Blood Money try their hand at the scolling hack 'em up genre in their next Psygnosis game. As the title character you explore huge side-scrolling caves and scenes chopping everything in your path. Huge, highly detailed characters and smooth animation, 64 colors on screen, and parallax scroll take this one beyond Sword of Sodan. The unique aspect of the game is your character starts out with only a pair of bikini-briefs and slowly replaces his flesh with bits of armor.
