1. What is AmigaMindMachine?
============================

AmigaMindMachine (AMM) is a program designed to stimulate user's
brain wave frequencies. It works by generating two tones (binaural)
that differ in frequency. Normally, when listened through
loudspeakers, this can be heard as a 'beat' effect, otherwise
known as interference. When listened through headphones, the brain
synthetizes this 'beat' and thus stimulates that frequency.

2. Warnings
===========

Be warned: although there should be no risk in listening to binaural
sounds, epileptics should _never_ use AmigaMindMachine.

Photic stimulation at Alpha frequencies may cause an epileptic
seizure. You should never try using AmigaMindMachine alone.

In the next version, we should include visual stimulation. At that
point AMM becomes more effective _and_ more dangerous.

If you experience an odd smell, or see or hear things without apparent
reason while using AmigaMindMachine, stop the program and seek
medical advice.

Use at your own risk. The author cannot be held responsible for
any damages, direct or consequential, that the use, misuse or
inability to use AmigaMindMachine or its support files might cause.

Most people do not need to be afraid. Enjoy AmigaMindMachine! I do.

3. Using AmigaMindMachine
=========================

AmigaMindMachine works from CLI. It needs KickStart 1.2 or greater.
It works with both PAL and NTSC, and has been tested under 2.04 (A500)
and 3.0 (A1200). No known bugs at this time.

Start AMM from CLI or Shell by typing:

AmigaMindMachine <Configuration path & file> <Base frequency>

Base frequency is optional. You should choose one between 300 and
400 (all values integer and in Hz). Default is 366. Choose a frequency
that you like to listen to.

Configuration file is a file that defines how long and what brain wave
frequencies should be stimulated. Configuration file is a normal text
file that has maximum of 500 lines. Each line is formatted:

Duration;Frequency

Duration is how long the specified frequency should be stimulated and
frequency is between 2 and 25. See tables below.

BRAIN WAVE TYPE FREQUENCY RANGE EXPLANATION
====================================================================
Beta                25-14 Hz               Normal alertness
Alpha               14-07 Hz               Relaxed awareness
Theta 07-04 Hz Creativity & imaginery
Delta               02-04 Hz               Deep sleep

Note: you can enjoy delta stimulation without falling asleep!

I suggest you try 'relax.amm', a sample configuration file, first.
It will take you through beta, alpha, theta, delta and back again.
The program duration should be between 20 and 30 minutes.

After starting, put STEREO HEADPHONES on and sit in a soft, confortable
chair or lie on bed and close your eyes and think about nice things.

You must _not_ mix the channels in any way. Do not use loudspeakers.
Different channels must _not_ interfere with each other before
they reach your brain. Be sure that there is no other noise, bright
lights or smells.

Program can be stopped with CTRL-C. It will stop next time when
the frequency changes.

It is a good idea to make a tape of 'relax.amm' or equivalent. You
can then use Walkman to play it when you want to.

4. Future, bugs
===============

In future, I am thinking to include the visual stimulation as well,
and a relaxation program editor.
