ALWAYS turn your Amiga off for 60 seconds and on again before you insert a write enabled disk. And please note if using 5.25" disks,DO NOT use transparent tape for write-protection, use a black one! The best way: Use this disk and send it to your swap friends . Don't swap with lazy guys who send you virus-infected disks more than one time.. We can all make mistakes, but half- brains like that should NEVER get programs from us....... 1.7 How to use this disk ------------------------ This disk will check your memory for any resident in RAM upon startup. This means that you will get a warning if there is a virus ( known or unknown) in your memory. This is done by VMK,which will find ALL NEW VIRUS, and of cause ALL OLD VIRUSES! PLEASE NOTE...THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT POINT! --------------------------------------------- The best and easiest way to use this disk is to check your disk for viruses as a final operation after you have seen the contents,version, introes etc. Remember to clear the memory before test! On inserting The New SuperKillers , you will at once get a requester informing you that something is resident in your memory.A virus perhaps...? If positive,hunt the virus down. Use one of the ordinary virus killers from this disk . No mercy or weakness, but try to fix that particular kind of virus . If the virus is not mentioned in the Virus Tutor below , send it to me very fast. Don't use this infected disk, but make quite sure that the virus really.... infects an other disk . Use a copy of this disk, infect it, and send the disk to me stating everything that happened , when you first met the virus. 1.8 especially for hard disk owners ----------------------------------- 1.81 Virus which infects hard disk ---------------------------------- If you have a harddisk be very careful with the Xeno, The Smilling Cancer, and The Travelling Jack viruses: these are the first viruses specially made to attack hard disks. Almost every non-boot virus is well known to be able to harm your hard disk. However , very few people know that boot viruses can infect your hard disk,too . If you have an auto-boot hard disk you may get your sector 0 and 1 on cylinder 0 infected , and you will get a message saying something like "Not a DOS disk in unit 0". Attention use the VT killer to save your hard disk bootup! 1.82 If your harddisk is stopped ------------------------------- If you get virus problems and you can't start your hard disk , try to fix the problem with a re-boot of your own hard disk installation disk to try to start up your harddisk. That is very useful. Remember that file viruses ( non-bootviruses ) almost allways, infect the first C-Command in your s/startup-sequence, delete this command ,then replace the original C-Command ( found on your Workbench disk or similar). 1.83 Harddisk virus killers --------------------------- Ordinary killers: ---------------- For checking hard disk you must use the file options in Zerovirus,BootX,and VT (PgrVTest), click on " Drives " choose e.g. DH0:. Special Killers : --------------- Use LVD or EVW,(Virus killer Tools Dir.) in your hard disk startup-sequence to protect for non-boot virus infection. Please.........attention to remember to un-pack all imploaded programfiles, if not you CAN'T... run the "SHI" viruskillers from your harddisk! 1.9 Bug reports --------------- The only known bug I have found, is various problems with vector settings when you run BootX . Further more, BootX have problems, in that you can't reset the memory by clicking in the BootX requester . The vectors are $0020385A, and $000008E8; just ignore the requester and click "No", it is not a virus...take it easy! IF you click "Yes" it will mean, that possibly some other programs will not run--in this chase use the "ClearMem" program. If you find other bugs please inform the authors or me about the problems. 2.0 About the Programs ---------------------- This disk is always contains the newest ultimate virus killers ever made. Please........remember to send a shareware gift to the programmer of your favorite programs , this is the only way to get even better virus killers for the future! 2.1 VC (Virus Checker) ---------------------- The Virus Checker is an excellent virus killer for all purposes,and is very ... easy to use . Please note the excellent...."Learn mode", witch makes it easy to learn new unknown viruses too. Excellent for all novices, who don't know how to start and use other more technical virus killers. 2.2 Virusz ---------- VirusZ : Is excellent for background running on user disks, or for your hard disk ! Please remark you have the advantage, of having a virus killer still checking your disks as a background task! This program is a MUST for everybody. Remark the excellent un-pack features to test packed programs for viruses. Attention for the pull-down menu, I have got report that some has forgotten this one. By my meaning this killer is a killer of quite new generation!!!!!!! 2.3 FindEmAll ------------- FindEmAll is a new very excellent RAM virus checker. When you want to use this program, remember first.....,to format a disk, then...... install the FindEmAll on this disk. Many people don't know how VERY, VERY FAST and reliable this program is to use. The way to use this program is very special: First look at the new disks you get, (You MUST load to the start of the program), then finally load the FindEmAll program. The FindEmAll program then tell you if there is some illegal calls maybe from a virus. This program is EXCELLENT to find new unknown viruses. To-day I use this program EVERY day for virus check!! 2.4 ZeroVirus III ----------------- Zerovirus : For guys with some experience , professionals ( and you ), Zerovirus is a very fine program with many excellent features i.e.: a. Learn function for new boot virus. b. Save function for your boot blocks. c. Non-boot virus check options. d. Read / write error check function. e. Many Boot block tools to install. f. Options for printer . g. Hard disk check. Try to use the Zerovirus print options , if you want virus documentation. Please note the excellent feature " The ZeroVirus " has to learn new boot-block virus , particularly that you are able to move the " pointers " all over the boot-block area ; it is very IMPORTANT for some types of virus i.e all Lamer Exterminator boot-viruses. A big disadvantages is,that the killer doesn't have an analyze mode to find new viruses. A known bug: In "File Check" mode you have to choose "File", when you are running the file-check the "first time"! 2.5 VT ------ Use the excellent "VT" Virus Killer.It is a German killer , but I think you will be very surprised at how easy you are able to use this ultimate Killer.The author has done a very good work with documentation, etc. Please note; there is a little "bug" in the program : The PrgFTest in "devs" mode is the "drive" mode , you have to use for e.g. hard disk check! This new version have a check-feature for Read/Write errors and cruncher types too.....Excellent! Please note; you can save your hard disk boot block too, to avoid hard disk breakdown by boot virus infection. A very good virus killer indeed very, very...... usefull for harddisk check! 2.6 BootX --------- BootX is a very good all-round virus killer with file check , learn option for boot viruses , and all the things you need for a good virus killer program, except from an analyse mode, but maybe you will find it in the next version of this ultimate killer. This is my FAVORITE, I think the best AT ALL, commercial included! 2.7 VMK ------- VMK is a unique virus killer specially for your startup-sequence with an excellent analyse function. To this day......I have not found a new virus, that VMK could not find. Please note, that VMK has a splendid feature, which shows the virus text, and most interesting ......this works ALSO if you have a new non-boot virus. 2.8 CLI and Virus killer Tools ------------------------------ By using CLI, you will find some very, very .....useful programs and tools in the "virus killer.Tools" Dir and C Dir , which gives you better results in hunting viruses. Program Usage Purpose --------- ------- --------- LVD LVD Protects HD. in the startup. EVW EVW Protects HD. in the startup. Devs/Printers De.. .ters Change printers. Preferences Pre.. .es Change printer preferences. C/Infect Infect Infects B.B. on DF0 or DF1. BGS-9/TTV-1 Virus Find it Learning purpose only. SCA Virus Find it Learning purpose only VMK VMk Killer for startup seq. The new Setclock command Setclock No more clock problems. The new Setpatch command Setpatch Less of e.g. guru problems. Schwartzkopf Sk Saddam special killer. And C-commands etc.. 3.0 View 80 search and txt. printing --------------------------------- Try to use the print options in the menu of View 80 to print out the docs, files or pages and use the excellent search feature ! 4.0 Important this disk contains viruses ---------------------------------------- NOTE, that the BGS-9 / TTV-1 Virus is write-protected on this disk ; you can't remove the virus, but it DOES NOT infect your memory or disks in this special case . You can only use the SCA virus on this disk , if you use the "infect" command , and infect an other disk. Be VERY careful with the virus, or you will destroy some of your disks ! This virus is ALIVE ...! BUT it will NOT infect other disk from this disk! The SCA virus only infect Amiga systems useing Kickstart 1.2, but can be installed at These viruses are ONLY on this disk to do your familiar with virus hunting by using all the different virus killers in practice. 5.0 Resident programs --------------------- If you meet some residents programs like System Z , Guardian and the like install them . Such programs are now very , very dangerous ; because they can hide the new viruses. ( This will happen , when you examine your Amiga memory for virus , with the new generation of virus killers). 6.0 About clock virus and like ----------------------------- Please note that NO......................... virus , can infect your clock, and REMAIN alive in your clock ! There are some programs and disk bugs, which are able to make strange things with your clock. I recommend that you use a program called "System Test Program ver. 9.1", to repair your clock, if you have problems. There are other alternatives if you don`t succeed : 1. Type " SETCLOCK OPT RESET " or 2. Use your Amiga Basic and type " Poke 14417980 "( HEX address dc003c ) then you will get a zero ( 0 ) on the HOLD BIT in your clock, and the clock will start again. 3. The newest setclock command on this disk, and on Workbench 1.3/2.0 is now able to fix most of the problems. 7.0 How to remove BGS-9 virus and other file viruses --------------------------------------------------- This virus is a non-boot virus ( marked " F " in the virus tutor ). It is taking the name in the first command in the startup-sequence ( infects this command like almost all non-boot viruses) . But this virus is placing the original c/command in the devs directory as a nameless file. You can remove this virus and other viruses like this by following these instructions: 1. Look at your startup-sequence and take note of the first command. 2. Find it in c or root dir ( file size 2608 bytes ) and delete this. 3. Load a utility like SID, Diskmaster or like. 4. Look after the nameless file in the devs directory. 5. Rename this file to its original name ( the first command name in the startup-sequence ), and move it to the c directory or wherever it belongs. 6. Please remember that several virus killers (e.g. VirusX) think you have a infected disk, if you don't rename this nameless file. And a little COPY hint : If you have errors , when you are using X-Copy, try to copy to RAM and back again . In many cases you will then have a perfect disk ! 8. About "Saddam Hussein" and the CCCP viruses : ---------------------------------------------- About Saddam Husein: -------------------- Please be very careful , if you are working with the new "Saddam Hussein" file/link virus . Note that there is a boot virus with the same name, don't be confused . I get a lot of reports about the world wide spreading of this very,very...nasty virus: E.g. 6 well-known BBS hard disks have been corrupted in the "States" in the month of june-91 ! Here you have some facts about this virus: 1. The virus is a "multi-headed" file- and link virus. Always infected in L/Dir,if there is not an L/Dir on the disk,it will make one by itself. 2. The Saddam file virus part is always to find in L/disk-validator , with the same file length (1848) and of course....the same name a diabolical thing oh...boy..! 3. It can infect as the only one (I know) , even if you have the new super Fat Agnus (1 MG ChipRam) and survive a reset. 4. The Saddam link virus part is a VERY , VERY...... easy spreading virus, it will link to all files , e.g. to all executed , written or copied files , but it does not change the file length,it only writes "IRAK" in the start of the files. Please remark, that all theses infected files will cause Read /Write" errors! The original "Saddam" infects hard disks too. I have several reliable reports from Australia (1), and USA (5), (the last five reports from USA were all concerning BBS damages, where more than 500 program files were damaged. 5. It is impossible to delete the virus or the link infected files with a file editor like "Diskmaster", or from CLI. Please note, that BootX is the ULTIMATE "Saddam" killer , but ONLY use "Check files" to FIND..........the "Saddam" virus, you must then use the "Repair disk" menu. The "VP" and the "VT" virus killer will find the virus, and remove it from your disk, (some times.....and some times not . Both killers have problems with bitmap errors and like , specially the VT Killer (version 2.24), which have a very, very slow "Saddam" Fix-Mode.) If you have infected disks, I recommmend to try to use several different killers from this disk , in some cases the killer may just break-down by meeting the "Saddam Hussein" if you try to repair your disks . A good advise: ALWAYS.....use a backup of your disk, when you have to repair your virus problems, and especially...... with the "Saddam" virus! Many people have contacted me saying , that they have found a "SPECIAL" virus an "Australian Parasite" virus , which cannot be killed with VirusX 4.01, (the LAST official release...) I understand this problem quite well, because by a stroke of luck VirusX, is accidental able to find the "Saddam Hussein" Disk-validator virus . The problem here is, that the Australian Parasite virus, is a virus you will find in the boot block, and the nasty "Saddam" virus is to be found in the L/Dir. For novices, I can recommend the "Schwarzkopf" virus killer, a excellent bug free killer you "ALWAYS" can trust , when you have to repair "Saddam" infected disks. Please.... remember to delete the old "Saddam" and replace the original L/disk-validator, it does not harm anything, but it may confuse other people who come across it. Please note that "Schwarzkopf"does not work by starting from an icon! as stated in the doc file. It can only be started from the cli with "sk". As a final point, always... use a program like Quarterback Tools to check the disk to see if the disk structure is all right. This date , (6/8-91), I just got a rapport from Australia , concerning a new "Saddam Hussein" strain, now you have been warned! About the CCCP Virus: -------------------- I have gotten letters from several people who have problems with the "CCCP" virus . The problem is that this special virus has both a boot part, and a link part. The solution is that you to delete both parts. If you only delete the boot part the remaining link part , will write a new boot part, as soon as possible. PLEASE NOTE: In most cases you will find all non-boot viruses infecting in the very first C/Command stated in the S/Startup-sequence. If not, please try to check the file dates if you have a clock.
