T-MOVE Users Manual (c) 1986 by Techni Soft. All right reserved. The T-MOVE package is designed to allow you to easily move files to and from IBM-PC formatted disks. There are three programs in this package: TVERIFY - will verify the readibility of an IBM-PC format disk TDIR - will show an IBM-PC format directory listing of an IBM-PC disk TMOVE - will move files from and to IBM-PC format disks. Please note that TDIR will allow displaying a directory listing of an IBM-PC format disk with a single drive system, but that TMOVE normally requires that the destination and source drives be different. It is possible to do a "CD RAM:", to and then do a tmove to the ram device, if you only own a single drive system. Please be careful to never attempt to use TMOVE to move files from the same drive that you are logged into. This will cause the system to crash. It is not possible to TMOVE files from an IBM-PC format disk in DF0:, for example, if DF0: is your currently logged drive. All of the command in this package are designed to automatically sense and use the first 5.25" drive found on the system, unless a drive number is specified. Please also be aware that unless the 5.25" drive is powered on before, or at the same time as your AMIGA, the AMIGA operating system will not recognize the drive as being attached. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- TVERIFY The command syntax of TVERIFY is : TVERIFY DFn: (or TVERIFY IBMn:) If a drive number is NOT specified ( i.e. you enter only TVERIFY ), the program will search for the first 5.25" drive that can be located on the system and use it. If a drive number is specified, then the target drive can either be a 5.25" drive, or a 3.5" drive (in either case, the drive must contain an IBM-PC formatted disk). TVERIFY will read and verify the sector checksum of every sector on the specified disk. This may not be terribly useful, but will show whether or not your AMIGA system is able to access all of the sectors on the disk. In the case of IBM-PC CONVERTIBLE, or similar 80 track formats, it is possible that a head mis-alignment may make it impossible for your AMIGA system to read the IBM format disk. Each machine may be capable of formatting disks and reading them, but, especially with 80 track formats, disks may not be read compatible when transported between the two machines. TVERIFY will show whether the disk can be read by your AMIGA system or not. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- TDIR The command syntax of TDIR is: TDIR TDIR filespec TDIR IBMn: TDIR IBMn:filespec TDIR does an IBM-PC format directory listing, of either a 5.25" or 3.5" IBM-PC formatted disk. TDIR invoked with no parameters (the first form shown above) will display a directory listing of the ROOT level of the first 5.25" drive that can be located on your system. The second form of the command shown above also uses the first 5.25" drive that can be located, but allows subdirectory and wild card specifiers. (i.e. TDIR a/b/*.com ) You may use either slash '\' or '/' to separate path specifiers. (i.e either a/b/file or a\b\file produce the same result) The '?' character indicates a single character match, the '*' character indicates any number of characters match. It is presumed that you are somewhat familiar with specifying IBM-PC type file names, if you are using this program. For further information, refer to an IBM-PC users manual. The third and fourth forms of the command show above must be used if you are specifying a drive other than the default "first 5.25 inch drive that can be located". For example, to obtain a directory listing of a 3.5" disk that will be inserted into drive df1: the command would be: TDIR IBM1: (or TDIR DF1:) To obtain a listing of all files ending with a .COM extension, in the \user\bin subdirectory, on a 3.5" drive that will be inserted into DF1: the command would be: TDIR IBM1:\user\bin\*.com Please note that TDIR does not support the various parameters (such as /w) that the IBM-PC "dir" command supports. TDIR expects either no parameters or a single parameter and will complain if you attempt something like: TDIR IBM0:*.exe /w ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- TMOVE The command syntax of TMOVE follows the same general patterns shown above, except that you must be very careful to specify which is the IBM drive and which is the AMIGADOS drive. The syntax of TMOVE is : 1. TMOVE filespec 2. TMOVE IBMn:filespec 3. TMOVE IBMn:filename to DFn:filename 4. TMOVE DFn:filename TO IBMn:filename Command form #1 shown above moves the specified file (or group of files, if wild cards are specified) from the default 5.25" drive to the currently logged drive and subdirectory. If a single IBM-PC file is specified, and that file is a subdirectory, then all the files in that specified directory will be moved to your currently logged AMIGADOS drive and directory. For example, TMOVE *.* will move all the files, excluding directories, from the ROOT level of the disk inserted into the first 5.25" drive on the system, to your currently logged AMIGADOS drive and directory. IMPORTANT NOTE: You may not move from an IBM-PC disk in the drive that you are currently logged into. It will crash the system. In command form #1 it is not so important, unless you are using Kick 1.2 or later and have mounted the 5.25" drive as an AMIGADOS drive. Command form #2 above allows you to specify the drive that the IBM-PC format disk will be inserted into. If you specify the 5.25" drive, you must have the IBM-PC format disk inserted into the drive already. If you are specifying a 3.5" drive, you will be prompted to insert the IBM-PC format disk into the drive. Once you have inserted the IBM-PC format disk, press the RETURN key and TMOVE will begin. Be careful that you are not specifying the AMIGADOS drive that you are currently logged into. DO NOT do a TMOVE DF0:*.* if you are currently logged into drive DF0: !! If you have a single drive system, it is possible to move the TMOVE command to ram:, then do a CD RAM:, and then execute the TMOVE. *** NOTE *** The following forms will be implemented in T-MOVE 1.20 or later See the upgrade policy at the end of this file for upgrade information. Command form #3 above is typically used for moving a group of IBM-PC files to a specific directory, on some drive other than the currently logged drive. If the destination AMIGADOS file is a directory, all IBM-PC files moved will be placed into the specified directory, with their original IBM-PC names. For example: TMOVE IBM2:*.* to df0:c would move all the files from an IBM-PC format disk inserted into drive DF2: to the df0:c/ directory. Command form #4 is for moving an AMIGADOS file to an IBM-PC formatted disk. The AMIGADOS file name must conform to IBM-PC file name specifications (the file name must not contain embedded spaces, '?' or '*' characters, contain at most 8 characters in the name, and at most 3 characters in the extension). This command form is currently not supported in TMOVE versions less than 1.20. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPGRADE POLICY Techni Soft wants you to have the best possible product. Since the "write on IBM-PC disks" portion of the program was not released at the time of this writing, the version 1.20 upgrade will be available to you at no charge. To obtain this upgrade, you should return your warranty registration card (filled out) and your master TMOVE disk, securely packaged to prevent damage in shipping, to the address shown on the label of your T-MOVE disk. Be sure to make yourself a backup copy before sending your master copy to us! We will upgrade and return your master disk as soon as the version 1.20 release of T-MOVE is available. The currently released version of TMOVE should handle all of the 5.25" disk formats that have been used on the IBM, either single or double sided, and either 8 or 9 sectors per track. If you run into a disk that TVERIFY can not read, but works on an IBM-PC or clone, please contact us - we would be very interested in obtaining a copy of that IBM format disk. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Also included in this package is a copy of ADIR, which does a directory listing of an APPLE ][ disk. This applies only to Apple DOS 3.3 or later, 16 sectors per track. ADIR is part of the AMOVE package. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ATARI-ST notes: We have heard rumors that a disk formatted on an IBM-PC CONVERTIBLE (i.e. 80 tracks, double sided) can be used on the ATARI 1040 using 80 track double sided drives. If that is the case, then it should be possible to use TMOVE to move files from the ATARI, if the disks used in the ATARI had been previously formatted on an IBM-PC convertible. Please note - a standard ATARI disk can not be read by T-MOVE, the ATARI uses a somewhat odd disk format. If anyone has information about the ST format at a very low level (i.e. how it is MFM encoded on the disk, what ID marks are used, etc.) please pass that information along to us.
