Thank you for purchasing dataTAX. dataTAX consists of a Program Disk that holds the main program and the tax forms, and a Help Disk that holds the IRS instructions. You have purchased the Headstart Edition of dataTAX. The HeadStart edition contains draft 1990 forms that have not yet been approved for printing. Send the enclosed registration card to us and we'll send you - at no cost - the Final Edition in early to mid January. The Final edition will include final forms plus electronic filing capabilities. The Help Text on the Help Disk is from the 1989 instructions. The 1990 instructions will be included with the Final Edition. The manual and the label on the enclosed diskette refer to an Install disk. This single Install disk would have held 2 disks in a compressed format. Before shipping we decided that the Installation process was too time consuming, and we chose to include 2 disks instead of one. The final edition of dataTAX will include disks that are labelled correctly. The disk that this file is on is the Program or DTAX-90 disk. The other unlabelled disk is the Help Disk (or HELP_DISK90) which holds government instructions for the tax forms. To Use dataTAX place the program disk in drive DF0: and reboot your computer. For faster form switching select the FAST FORMS menu option when the program finishes loading. (1 Meg memory required for FAST FORMS option) You can now place the HELP DISK in drive DF0: and put the program disk aside until you wish to save or print your tax return. If you are booting your Amiga from a Workbench disk instead of the dataTAX Program disk (DTAX-90) and you have trouble displaying help text when pressing the HELP key; be sure that the lines "setpatch >NIL: r" "resident c:run pure" are in the file called startup-sequence on the alternate boot disk you are using. Again, if you boot dataTAX from the supplied disks we do this for you. Before printing make sure you have run Workbench Preferences to choose the correct printer driver. The Preferences program is on the HELP DISK. The EPSON printer driver should work for most printers if yours is not on the list. If only one form at a time prints, deselect the 'Check Printer Status' option under the Prefs menu and try again. If you have any other problems printing call us. The 24 Hour Technical Support BBS referred to on the back page of the User Manual will be operational after New Years day. If during use of the program a requester that says "Read/Write Error" appears, then your disk has or has developed a defect. Call us at 416-250-7424 and we'll send you a replacement disk or wait for the Final Edition which includes a new set of disks. Hard Drive Installation: ======================== Use the mouse to move the Tax-90 drawer from the program disk to the root directory of your hard disk. If you have space on your hard drive also move the HELP drawer on the HELP DISK into the TAX-90 drawer on your hard drive. Select the Forms Drawer... menu item and tell dataTAX where the Help files are on your hard drive. Be sure to end the path with a '/'. For example use SYS:TAX-90/HELP/ On this Disk is an icon for the FONTS drawer. With the mouse move the drawer to your Hard Drive. Put the FONTS drawer at the root directory of the hard drive or hard drive partition that the computer boots from. This will allow dataTAX to use a font that has NO SLASH through the zero and is much easier to read. If you are booting dataTAX from the Floppy disk the improved font is used automatically. You may also copy the images drawer that is inside the HELP drawer on the HELP DISK to the TAX-90 drawer on your hard drive. DO NOT place this drawer on top of the same named drawer on the hard drive, place this new drawer in an open area. Doing otherwise will cause Workbench to place the images drawer within the images drawer on the hard drive.
