In the last issue of Mega Disk, I explained how to log onto a BBS system for the first time, and I gave you a brief review of 3 BBS systems that you could start your new online career with. Now that you're online, you may have heard of a new phrase called "Game Doors", often referred to simply as "Doors". No, these have absolutely nothing to do with a very popular band of the late 60's, but are in fact separate programs which are loaded from the host Hard Drive, when you select a particular option from the BBS menu. In most cases, this "Door" will be an online game. As the name suggests, online games can be played over the telephone line, and if you're very lucky, you can also compete against other users at the same time. THE CHOICE IS YOURS Most BBS's will have an option on the main menu that will say something like "ONLINE GAMES" or just "GAMES". If you select this, you will be taken to another screen that will have a list of games that you can now play. There are many different games, some are very well written, others just plain stupid! Some Doors will allow you to gain extra time on the BBS by playing card games like "21", or by answering trivia questions. But failing to win one of those games will mean losing some time online.
