Welcome To << Paracetamol V1.0c PreRelease >> A Utility for all The Hard Drive Owners out there The purpose of this little (and not yet finished) utility is to provide all owners of multiple kickstart machines (be it soft or hardware orientated) the option of booting there machines with a different startup-sequence depending on which version of KICKSTART they have running in their machine at the time. At present, this selection is done by a simple key press at the ten second pop- up menu which appears when the program is first run. The reason for this key selection, is at the time when I started this production I could think of no fool-proof way of detecting Kickstart version, due to the fact that many users are using a software installed version of later Kickstarts. You may wonder why one startup-sequence is not suitable for both Kickstarts ??? Well, the reason this product was started, is that trying to run such commands as Execute or Runback on varied Kickstarted version machines produced many horrible and annoying recoverable allert massages and software failures, depending on which Kick was installed. So, this product should solve these headaches (hence the name) by allowing a different script for each chip. Startup Selection: ------------------ The startup-sequence selction is achieved by having two different script files in the s directory of your Hard Disk. Startup-sequence1.3 is the one for the 1.3 selection, and Startup-sequence2.0 is the one for the 2.0 selection. If your normal startup-sequence ends in workbench, with no CLI running, then the normal Startup-sequence should read as below. Paracetamol ;run this first to decide your choice EndCli ;Kills current Cli, as paracetamol works on its very ;own Cli level. This cannot be achieved by simply writing the selected startup-sequence (namely startup-sequence1.3 or startup-sequence2.0) so that they end in EndCli as this will only end Paracetamol's level of CLi. Experiment, and you'll see what I mean !! Two New Execute's ??: --------------------- The reason that this disk contains in it's C directory two commands labelled Execute1.3 and Execute2.0 is that at the time this program was written, the execute command on a 1.3 workbench disk would Guru a 2.0 machine, and vice versa. Therefore to alleviate the problems that are associated with this, Paracetamol uses the two commands separately depending on which sequence you select. It's Not For Me!!: ------------------ Now this program may just be your Paracetamol, but some of you may think, Hey! this is of no use to me! Well, to all of you that find it useful, I'm glad that it is of some use, and to all of you that don't, well it's a new ware to spread!! Future Improvements: -------------------- The actual release version of this program will not have the ten second count down menu, as at present I am testing a version that will recognise which version of Kickstart you are using Automatically, and act accordingly , INSTANTLY. But, as I haven't finished yet, I released this version so that I could get some come back on whether it proves usefull, works correctly, or needs to be re-programmed from scratch !! Please, if you have any ideas or programming tips on this then leave me a Note on the following BBS'S under Galdor. Ghost +44 091 264 5355 The Ultimate Dream +44 0222 495919 City Limits +44 0695 571014 Also if anyone can tell me how to extract IBM Zipped files using UnZip5.00 then I will be most gratefull, as all it does at the moment is GURU !!! Oh, and if anyone can get Zkick (or Zkick Windows) to work properly, then post us a note. Hope this program may solve some of your headaches. GALDOR T.M.D. 11:45 Sept 13 1992 Final Foot Note: ---------------- Two versions of the program are on this disk. Paracetamol The version which will automatically run the 1.3 script if no selection is made, and Paracetamol2.0 Another version whcih will automatically run the 2.0 script if no selection is made.
