  This is version 2.2 of Byte'n'Back. It retains the same look as version
1.0 but has been vastly enhanced. 


                         ******** IMPORTANT ********

  1. Please note that the backup format has changed since version 1.0. 
Versions 2.0 and above will only restore backups made with 
version 2.0 and above.

The new disc format is designed for maximum data security, yet still
manages 935K of data per disc, more than any other backup utility !
Please use v2 instead of v1.0 for 100% reliability. Unfortunately the
original speed and disc capacity was too great for many drives to cope
with. We are hoping that the proposed stability of version 2 KickStart
and WorkBench will allow this increase in speed and capacity. In theory
operating system 1.3 should have allowed it but didn't.


  2. The report may now be generated to disc, instead of the printer.
Simply click on the report gadget till "S:" is shown. The report will
be sent to the file "S:Byte'n'Back_Report" for viewing, using an editor,
or printing later by typing

 "type >prt: S:Byte'n'Back_Report" in the Shell / CLI.


  3. Even if a disc is damaged, Byte'n'Back will now restore as much as
possible, padding out damaged file sections with spaces. This will allow
maximum amounts of important data to be retrieved from damaged discs !


BUG FIXES FROM VERSION 2.0 :

  4. The display (ie the status line, scales, and file selection) on 
version 2.0 got corrupted on some machines. Although we have not been
able to duplicate this bug, it has been corrected.

  5. The restore catalogue would sometimes be reported as damaged when
reading from large backups (approx 3000+ files). It was not actually
damaged and v2.1 will safely read the backup.

  6. Version 2.2 adds a new bug fix... Some files would not be restored
if they overlapped discs AND the discs were placed in the drive too
soon, before they were required. This is now working properly.


THE FUTURE : 
~~~~~~~~~~
  Thank you for all your suggestions. The following may be implemented
in future versions...

  Selection by archive bit and/or wildcards, audible warning for disc
change, support for a config file, a 2nd catalogue on the last disc for
safety, restore of file dates and improved error reporting.

  We may even be able to increase the speed and storage capacity....
