The Release Charts 1993 Edition ------------------------------- The charts have been released weekly and monthly now for quite a while, and so it almost seems inevitable that we would do a 1993 edition, which includes all of the releases this entire year. There is a major problem though here, the charts were not released all year, and noone kept a clear record of everything to be released... I have done my *VERY BEST* to try and include every release of the year, but alas, I am sure that I missed quite a few releases from the early months of the year. I apologize to the groups who were very active during these months of the year, I wish there were a way to include them, but if I have no record of these releases, I cannot include them... On the upside, I feel that this is the best ever released edition of the release charts. It includes groups and releases that some of us may have forgotten about, and some that we would like to forget about. For a while there it seemed the amiga was on the verge of extinction, then W H A M, CD-32/AGA took over. I'd like to recap the year in review. At the start of the year Ministry seemed to be on top, and the only real competition was Fairlight. But their glory was short-lived and the soon fell to the bottom of the ranks after the first couple of months. Quartex and Crystal just kept hanging around all year. The glory is behind them, and they now are no longer Power Forces, but still they shock people every once in a while and release something good. When Interpol became Paradox many people felt they would ruin the good name that Paradox had established. Well, from the moment they were formed till nearly the end of 1993, PDX ruled over the scene. Bacon & Egg proved to be GREAT suppliers, and Blackhawk overcame some of his doubters. Tristar & Red Sector hung around all year long, dissapearing for a while, then putting up a good month. Much the way that Skid Row did. Skid Row, however in the off month was reduced to releasing utilities. Training wise, Anthrox ruled for the bulk of the year, with GOD close behind. Then we hit the months of drought, where groups such as GOD, Mystic, and TT released trainers for mine games every other day. Luckily this was stopped around July. Faith, Zenith, and Delight and Unlimited Potential put up strong performances in certain months, but never had the consistency of Global Overdose or Anthrox. When the world heard that Phil Douglas was returning with Delirium, some speculated that they would take over the scene. Many of these were the same people who predicted Dynamix would run things, but as we all know, it never happened. Then in September, another group returned from the depths, Classic. Everyone dismissed them as Ministry reincarnated, and thought they would not be a factor. But as we all know, when the returned they overtook Paradox as the leaders(with Fairlight as well). If only they had returned a little earlier they could have very well been a HUGE factor in the top runnings. Hoodlum was also a major factor in the closing months of the year. Along with a resurgance of Prodigy, we now had two groups that besides the normal power 3(Classic, Paradox, Fairlight) that were releasing games regularly. They also put up an effort on the training end of things. But while all of this was going on, Fairlight, the old legends, were consistantly releasing top notch games. They had a small dry spell around the middle of the year, but overcame it, and that is why Fairlight is the #1 group of 1993. Consistency pays off!
