Magician's Dungeon Loading Instructions 1. First make a backup of both disks and use these to play. Boot in Kikstart 1.2 and Workbench 1.2 (In order to have enough memory to run this program do not open any additional windows/close CLI) You need a copy of Extras 1.2 to run this program. 2. Insert Disk 1 and open disk, click on MAGIC icon. 3. You will be prompted to insert Extras (do so) then you will be prompted to insert Disk 1 again. There seems to be a bug in basic, after running certain programs and reseting, basic won't always work correctly. You will get no line feeds and a square character at the end of a line instead of the line feed. If this occurs, turn off your system, reboot kikstart and workbench and load MAGIC first. 4. The first screen will ask if you want to load in the introduction, if you have already seen the intro you can just skip the intro and let the game load in. 5. To exit from a graphic just press the Return key. In the intro use the mouse to operate the scroll. Click in the triangles to read the text and to quit click in the square marked quit. Do not remove either disk unless you are prompted to do so. If you have two disk drives leave both disks inserted. 6. From there on it's up to you. Magician's Dungeon Playing Instructions This adventure is controlled by a two word parser. If you wish to perform a specific action, such as putting a coin in a slot. Just go to the room with the slot and type "put coin." If this is important to the game a response shall be given. Otherwise since put acts as drop, you'll just drop the item specified. In some cases you'll be asked for a third word. You might be asked where and if you input "slot." If there is a slot in the room and it can be done (assuming you have a coin) then a response shall be given. If you can't figure out how to do something in two words then split the command apart, such as looking under a bush. You would first type "look under" and if this command is possible you would be prompted "look under what?" then you would type "bush." Your inventory can consist of six items. There are numerous items, different characters to talk to, over fifty rooms (Full screen graphics for most), large vocabulary and multiply paths or ways of doing things. There are pull down menus to help speed up the game and make it easier to play, but you can do everything needed through keyboard alone. If you wish to save a game just type "save" or use the menus. You can save nine games to disk. The games are saved to Disk 1 (Please note we recommend you back up both disks and only use these to play the game, just a precaution). There are certain real time sequences where you can't save the game. You can save before you get there, but not after it has begun. These consist mostly of chases or confrontations. This makes the game a little more difficult because you will only have one chance to figure out exactly what to do next. Turn Page Tips on Playing If you haven't played an adventure game before, here are a few helpful suggestions. 1) Look Everywhere...When you first enter a room, you will be given a description of the general area. Read this carefully, for there might be a clue to the game or an item which needs further investigation. Examine everything. 2) Draw A Map...Mark areas that you visit, objects found, dangerous areas and any type of landmark you find along the way. 3) Don't Give Up...If you get stuck in a particular room, just leave. Come back to it later, for you might just be missing an item that would obviously be useful in that room. It might even be a red herring and not important to the game. If you are completely stumped in every room, then re-examine everything, you probably just missed a clue. 4) Don't Get Mad...If you have bitten off all your nails and pulled out all your hair, don't despair. Explore the game once more, then go back to it later and try again. If psychiatric help doesn't stop you insatiable urge to finish the entire game, then hints are available. Send $3 for a hint book or $5 for hints on disk (both include a map and answers for every room). Send to the address below and please use a check or money order.
