³¼EDITORS ABOUT DISKMAGS¼¹ In this article some of the best diskmags editors will state their opinion, about some of the other diskmags. I must admit that it was the article "Musicians about musicians" in Zine #9 or 8 that gave me the inspiration to do this article. This article couldn't have been done without the help from the editors who decided to take part in this article. So a big thanx must go to them. Not all editors wanted to take part in this article, actually only four out of eight that I contacted. Well, Doctor Mabuso of CJ sent a letter telling why he didn't want to be in this article, and Dr.Outtasight wasn't editor on the Eurochart anymore, so greetz to you dudes for answer. Well, let's start the introduction of the editors. ³CHRIS/IRIS - EDITOR ON DISC¹: Name:Chris Age:23 years Country: France Crew:Iris Functions:Organizer, swapper and editor for Disc (+Bad Tongue) Civil Activity:Military Service till February '92. ³AGENT AND MC DEAL/D-TECT -EDITORS ON HACK-MAG¹: Let's first introduce Agent. Age:19 years Eyes:Blue Equipment:A1000,2.5 MB,2 3.5 drives,1 5.25 drive, printer STAR LC-10,Monitor 1081. I'm visiting the 13th class at the moment and I will have finished my school in the summer. Now MC Deal.Age:18 years Eyes:blue Equipment: A2000, 3MB, 3 3.5 drives, 1 5.25 drive, 105 MB HD, printer STAR LC-10,monitor 1081, A500,1MB, a 3.5 drive, old b/w TV. I'm currently visiting an economic school (for germans:WG) at the 13th level.I will have closed this chapter of my life in summer. We both live in the same little town called "Murrhardt" and we are the two guys who put all the articles together and make the final Hack-mag disk. But in spite of all this we also have some other projects running beside of the Hack-mag. Remember to see the nice picture of the two Hack-mag editors. ³HYDE/COMPLEX - EDITOR ON MAGGY¹: Hello !!! I am Hyde of Complex. My job in Complex is to spread our productions and being maineditor of our diskmag "Maggy". I am 19,8 years old, 192 cm tall made from Finland. Now I have been about 4 years on scene, so I am not a beginner. Besides computing I like to fidh, collect butterflies and sport. For more details you have to contact me personally. I hope you don't get angry because of your opinion about following answers, but they are my real opinions about those mags. ³MAD BUTCHER/COMA - EDITOR ON MC DISK¹: I'm Mad Buther, coder and main-editor of Coma's MCdisk! I'm 17 years old and I still go to school. I started to code on the Amiga one year ago. I released two demos called Floodland I+II. I coded some parts of Mc disk (the greater part was coded by Mission!) and I'm now working as main-editor. In my sparetime I like to party and meet some cool guys. I'm also interested in movies (cinema and video). Ok Let's start ³4TH DIMENSION/CRYBTOBURNERS ²--------------------------- ³Chris¹:Still alive ? The issues I got was..nice !! ³Agent & MC Deal¹:Really good mag. They were one of the first mags which could include pictures in the pages. Also the rest of the coding isn't bad (e.g. the editor). We also like the coder corner very much. One problem, however, seems to be that Crybtotoburners lost the motivation to release something. That's really a pity ! ³Hyde¹:4th Dimension is, or should I say was, a nice diskmag. ³Mad Butcher¹:A normal middle class mag.Average coding, normal articles... Nothing special ! ³ CRACKER JOURNAL/ALPHA FLIGHT ² ---------------------------- ³Chris¹:The precursor. It would be better if all the articles were in English.I like to read it. ³Agent & MC Deal¹:The first one.In the time before Zine it was really the best (the only one, we think), but today it isn't worth the disk. After they got the new code quality has risen for a short time and then fallen down again. We also think that it's very stupid to publish game docs in a diskmag. ³Hyde¹:One of my favorites though AFL haven't released CJ for a long time.I hope Cracker Journal will be back soon. ³Mad Butcher¹:Absolutly old-fashioned coding! Not able to compete with the newcomers like ICE...Articles of normal quality, but they don't improve my general opinion about this mag. I think AFL should improve the coding or stop publishing CJ ! ³DISC/IRIS ² --------- ³Agent & MC Deal¹:Disc was once one of our favuorite mags. But they had a big breakdown as JPN stopped his main activities and because of this the magazine became worse and worse.Actually we think Disc is dead.We can't imagine that there will be another issue (but we hope so !).Disc biggest fault was to let Chaos give the new coding to Zine because with this coding they would have had the chance to become better again ! (But we also understand Chaos... It's more publicity for him to give the code to the No.1 in the Eurobeat) ³Hyde¹:Dead one...I don't care.I think DISC was full of bullshit, so it didn't get my attention. ³Mad Butcher¹:DISC is about to die !.The coding is acceptable but the quality of the articles are getting lower and lower.I think they're not motivated enough to keep it alive. ³HACK-MAG/D-TECT ² --------------- ³Chris¹:bahh..It looks to much like Mc Disk. ³Hyde¹:Boring articles.Almost all written by D-tect members. ³Mad Butcher¹:One of the best mags in the scene. The coding is good. It's easy to handle and the articles are good as well.So nothing to critize !. ³ICE/CYTAX ²--------- ³Agent & MC Deal¹:Ice has a really cool design and a big amount of articles. The quality of the articles, however,is sometimes really bad. They seem to release everything they get.But all in all we like Ice very much and I hope that Cytax will continue their great work. ³Chris¹:Really good, nice gfx...a really good mag BUT... ³Hyde¹:This one is boring too...neat outlook, but nothing else. ³Mad Butcher¹:The best newcomer lately.Cool coding and the quality of the articles are getting better and better. The only negative point is the menu; it's not very easy to handle.A mouse-operated menu would be better. ³ MAGGY/COMPLEX ² ------------- ³Chris¹:I never got an issue of it...Etonning not ? ³Agent & MC Deal¹:We can't tell you much about this mag, because we've only seen one issue till now. But the issue we saw didn't impress us. They should consider about sending their articles to an established mag instead of making a mag for their own. ³Mad Butcher¹:I don't know much about this mag.It has not a very important position in the mag-scene. ³MC DISK/COMA ²------------ ³Chris¹:Bahh...It looks to much like Hack-mag !! ³Agent & MC Deal¹:Coma released their second issue some days/weeks ago. We think they do a good job with MC Disk, because it was one of the best "first-issues" we have ever seen. Also the second issue was not bad. They have also many articles but like in Ice the quality is sometimes very low. In the second issue e.g. we really couldn't find an above-average article. Another thing we don't like is the BAD layout. We know that Hack-mag is also not perfect, but the layout of MC Disk is terrible! They use dozends of colors on every page and everything looks really chaotic! ³Hyde¹:I wonder how Coma can afford to leave my article and advertisement out from last issue, though they need more articles.Again almost all articles written by their own members...boring shit !!! ³STOLEN DATA/ANARCHY-FLASH PRODUCTION-AXIS ²----------------------------------------- ³Chris¹:A nice mag, but it'll be better if there are more gfx from Havor. ³Agent & MC Deal¹:The coding of Stolen Data is below the standard (they have only one textcolor, no printer-option, no pictures etc.). Also the handling is really bad. You always have to wait until the menu is loaded! We really hate this! But Stolen Data certainly has some advantages! The articles are often funny and the pictures and charts on the disk are also very interesting (But why don't they include a best diskmag chart ???). ³Hyde¹:Proberly the best one !!! This mag is great: neat outlook and good articles...perhaps a bit old articles in last issue, but great anyway! ³Mad Butcher¹:The coding is average, but mostly a Zine-clone.The articles are average good.I think they shall improve their code to stay at the top !. ³THE EUROCHART/CRUSADERS ²----------------------- ³Chris¹:This "thing" becomes an institution...I dislike INSTITUTION. I dislike the "lamers" who says "vote for us in the Eurochart". ³Agent & MC Deal¹:We're always looking forward to the next issue of Eurocharts. It's very exciting to see if the position of Hack-mag has changed! We also like the news and the gallery (but to many lamers in here!!!). The sound is always cool (especially "Mimosa" from Fleshbrain in the March issue! It's my (MC Deal) favourite Amiga tune!). The grafic, however, is a disadvantage of Eurocharts. It's sometimes really bad (Ok, we give in that we're not big fans of Bustman's style). ³Hyde¹:Not a real diskmag, but news and gallery are quite interesting. I don't care so much about charts. ³Mad Butcher¹:I think The Eurocahrts are no real mag. It's just a chart with a news and infos corner. But the news are really cool. They always get a great amount of 'em. But I can't understand the high position in the mag-charts. ³ TOP SECRET/MAJIC 12 ² ------------------- ³Chris¹:I got the first ones...I got the last ones...they're really better. ³Agent & MC Deal¹:OK, Ok, we admit that it's very lame, but we really can't remember an issue (But we're sure that we saw ONE some time ago!). Sorry! (Hey TFG, why didn't you copy the latest issue on the second disk???) ³Hyde¹:Still something to improve.Bit boring articles and awfull outlook. ³Mad Butcher¹:Just average (sorry!). But the menu-system is pretty cool, cause it's very easy to handle! But the text-display is not very powerfull (no different colors/fonts...). ³ ZINE/BRAINSTORM ²--------------- ³Chris¹:Good mag even if it becomes more and more professional and for the elite guys (Compare the interviews in Zine#1 and the last Zine). ³Agent & MC Deal¹:Hmmm, hard question. Actually we think that Zine has a really bad code (No gfx, one textcolor, no gadgets etc.).That's the biggest disadvantage. But as we know the new code they get, we would say that they have best chances to stay No.1. But we will see.. The quality of the articles is very high! No doubt! But we wouldn't say that Zine is made "too proff" as many other guys say. For us it's just another GOOD mag. ³Hyde¹:Zine is one of the best mags with Cracker Journal and Stolen Data. It really is worth reading. Maybe the coding of the magazine should be replaced. ³Mad Butcher¹:Once a time it was the absolutly top mag. But time has changed and they haven't improved their coding lately. Their articles are the best, but if they don't improve their coding, they'll loose more and more power! NOTE: All these statements were given before the latest issue (#11) of Zine was released.
