‡ƒ> No more good demos ??? by DALMET/ENERGY -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ƒ2In the last issue I read some articles complaining about the fact that there are only a few demos released lately... But are they really so bad? I don't think so. First of all any piece of hard work should be accepted also if it doesn't contain the newest and cooles effects. I think the future of demos are in design and GFX-SFX synchronisation as seen in so many productions from MELON. The most innovative demo around is the "State of the Art" by Spaceballs. The usage of polygon-gfx like in the games Another World and Flashback has been a great idea. This demo could be shown on TV without anybody realizes that it was made on a computer. Some people complained that it is a Technodemo. These people are idiots. I know that Techno isn't the hardest thing to do, but it is generally made by only using synths and so Techno is the music style for computers. No other style of music can be done so realistic on a computer than techno. And also the Technovideos look like demos. They contain fractals and vectors and all other Amiga specific effects. So why not make this on a computer. Of course there were much too many of those lame techno demos (no names mentioned!). And not only lame Technostuff showed up. Lots of the smaller groups decide rather to release a lame 200k dentro with about 2-3 new average effects and ideas than a cool megademo with loadsa new stuff. Sadly the slogan "Quantity instead of quality" is still up to date. Only a few elite groups think different but all the small upcoming groups think they'll get ƒ2 famous by producing this fuck-tros which will be put on a packdisk. If someone gets now this pack he watches the fuck-tro and deletes the pack because all other stuffs on the pack were lame (except the fuck-tro). But if the guys would have released a cool trackmo everyone would have kept it. Bad luck. Another fact is that everybody wants to code a demo which runs on minimal configuration (A500, 0.5 Meg chip, 0.5 Meg fast, 2 drives - or even less). Is it so much work to code a ADos compatible loader and a HD-Installer? Is it a waste of time to generate effects which are gigacool but only run on newer Amigas (ECS, AGA Chipsets)? Why not supporting some more RAM by preloading the whole demo? I think this is a step yet to be done... And this step has already been done by groups like eg. Anarchy (3D Demo II). I think it will take a long time until coders, graphicians and musicians will get the point and advance to a new generation of demos: the multimedia demos. Why not making a demo with loads of animation, sound and raytracings that tell a cool story. No one would care if a demo is cool and has 5-7 disks (like Odyseey) and needs some more memory for it's full beauty. BUT coders please make your demos flexible so they'll run on any machine - it would be sad if it would be like on PC where every second demo cannot be watched if you haven't got the same configuration as the coder. I hope some more of this demos will come at us as soon as possible. DALMET/ENERGY…
