¶d§1¬3 PACK PROTECTING ¬2 Written By Radavi/Effect ¬1 Yes, I know there are already a lot of articles written on this subject. But at the moment I am just bored and want to write an article. Now I also have the chance to tell you all why I protect my packs. For those people who don't know what I use, I will give a little explanation. I make ¬2PREVAIL PACKS¬1 and I protect the demos on it with a ¬3MEGAFILE¬1. To tell you more about why I use it, let me tell you some history about it. ¬3 The program was made somewhere in 1991 I think by SPEEDBOY of SANCTUARY. At that time, it was made for KR'33 (when he was still in SANCTUARY, so before LEMON., SANITY, ANARCHY, AXIS and after CHIPARUS.)¬1 But before he could use it, he left SANCTUARY and joined AXIS. Then the program was finished and unused. When I reached number 40 or so of my ¬2PREVAIL PACK¬1 series, SPEEDBOY asked me if I could use it. I thought it was a nice program, and I liked using it, so he gave the program to me. For me it was great, I now had a protected pack, a nice and clean directory and our coder did not have to make a new loader for my next pack. So for us, it had no disadvantages and I decided to use it. Some people do not agree with the pack-protecting ideas, but I cannot understand why. What's the problem? The packmakers have a lot of (well, a bit) work to make a pack, and I can understand when they are pissed because some asshole rips off the demos. The idea is very simple, and a lot of people protect their work. Coders also protect their demos from ripping the music or the graphics, but no-one seems to have problems with that. Then why should you be pissed when someone protects his pack from ripping? Well, I will not write more about this subject, because there is already enough written about it. I just want to say that I use the ¬3MEGAFILE¬1 because it looks great, I mean that it looks great such a directory with §Aone big file of 800 kilo-bytes§1. And I am not the only one who uses this idea, just look at the directory of ¬4R.A.W. 5¬1, and you will see a file with the name ¬3BIGFILE¬1..... It is the same idea that I use, but nobody has problems with the BIGFILE, so why should they have problems with my MEGAFILE ??? ¬2§ATP REACTS¬1§1: I think the main problem is that there are always guys, including me who don't want to keep the whole disk, but only the best demo. I don't piss on packmakers here but it is very common to have packs on which there is only one quality intro or whatever. The same thing occurs with ¬3compilation-CD's¬1. On a disk with say twenty tracks you'll probably only like fifteen or so. Pretty much you think, but that's approx. seventeen minutes of rubbish! So we start making our own compilations on tape, but ok. So if we have a pack on which only one intro is interesting all I want is to take it off the pack and put it on another disk together with four or five other good productions. ¬3BIGFILE¬1 from ¬2R.A.W.¬1 consists of only articles. There is even a print- option to print an article to the printer. This way you can always separate that one interesting article from the rest. ¬3Maybe you should include an option in your menu which says ¬4'Save Intro'¬3 or so...
