¶d§1¬3 Talking With Friends About The Scene ¬2 Written By Dodger/Interactive ¬1 I read an article in ¬3MAGBOX #5¬1 about this and so I wanted to give my view about this problem... Everybody of us has tried to explain the scene to some friends or older adults, but most of you had no success,or... I tried it too, and failed... Here some ways to explain: ¬21)¬3 Discuss with your friends about the advantages of swapping and international friendship! They may think you're right, when you say swapping is a good way to get new friends worldwide, but you don't need a computer for that. They will say "§anormal§1" pen-friends are better or easier to write to and you don't need "§ademos§1" or such stuff on disks to have friends. Just tell them, that you meet most of your contacts on very funny, ¬2§Abig parties¬3§1 and so on and when you have "§anormal§1" pen-friends you usually don't. ¬12)¬2 Show them demos and other productions from famous groups! In my opinion this is not a very good way to make them like the scene. I showed lots of friends some demos from ¬3Melon¬2, ¬3Silents¬2, ¬3Spaceballs¬2 etc, but the guys just sat in front of my monitor and said:" ¬1What do you like in these boring rotating cubes and bouncing balls? It's always the same!¬2" They won't like it and not understand,that it is hard work to code strange effects, pixel great grafix or compose new modules. Your friends will say: "¬1Why do you spend so much time for these boring things?¬2" You can't answer to them,they won't understand... ¬33)¬1 Give them some diskmagazines, if they have an Amiga! This is quite a good way to understand a little bit about the scene and it's activities, but only if your friends really read it! Most of them won't, because they're too lazy to read English and then they will copy any "§agame§1" on the disk... ¬24)¬3 Explain them the whole organisation and work of the scene. If you have enough time and some good arguments they may understand a bit, but as always this chance is very small. Your friends will not understand why you try to get friends so far away and not spend more time with guys, who live nearer to you, and I think they're a bit right in this point, eh? ¬15)¬2 Make an essay (performance) in your class, if you have the chance for that. For example in a lesson with your class-teacher, so the class will keep attention. You have much time to prepare the essay very good and if you use some good ways to show, for example your Amiga with demos or photos from parties etc. some guys of your class and the teacher too, will understand and maybe like the scene... ¬4except the girls...¬3 I think most of you were in such situations like this: You're sitting in the classroom during a boring lesson and writing a letter to a contact or for a magazine, drawing outlines for some new logos, writing sourcecodes or something like that. Your neighboor sees what you're doing and tells it to his neighboor and together they laugh about your crazy doing. You try to explain and you can't, cause they have no arguments for a discussion, so they just laugh about you. When they read the name of your group or of your handle under a logo or something like that, they will make silly jokes about it... If you are fed up with this and scream: "¬1Shut your mouths, lamers!¬3" they will say: "¬1Oh,we are lamers? It doesn't matter...¬3" By the way I'm just talking about BOYS ! Explaining the scene to ¬4girls¬3 is more difficult as we all know... The best thing you can do is nothing! Don't try to explain anything to anybody. Don't speak about the scene and try to be normal. Spend so much time with your friends as you can, because they're more important than our scene-friends. ¬2 But remember, if your friends at home are your real friends, they will accept your hobby....... ¬4THE GLORIOUS SCENE!!!
