TF01 3,Modelling Star Trek 4,by Sven Harvey News ------ Not much to talk about at this time of the year as Playmates and the rest of the companies released their new products lists quite a while ago and you will find those lists in the last issue. The only things of note are that Galoob will be releasing a metalised set of Star Trek (and Star Wars) micromachines. Playmates are doing their usual trick of changing release dates and the like. It's difficult to keep up with but as far as I can pin down the Galor class Cardassian warship along with most of the other ships seem to have bit the dust. The Bajoran phaser and tricorder, though only ever seen in Deep Space Nine, are in Next Generation packaging! Weird! The talking figures are now available and the quality of the samples are quite reasonable with many liking Riker's "Shields Up" and "RED ALERT!" - just what we have come to expect! Some of the figures have been cancelled and some merged with other sub-lines. However by "cancelled" Playmates mean that they will appear next year in some way. This also applies to any "cancelled" products by Playmates, they will appear... eventually. Franklin Mint are now shipping thier pewter DS9 model in the UK - see the review elsewhere. The set of Star Trek insignia and the set of silver Star Trek ships have started to ship as well, so if you have ordered them expect your first peice soon. Comet Miniatures are now sending out their Enterprise conversion kits... One to turn Ertls movie Enterprise into the semi-blown to bits version from STIII:TSFS (before its burn up in Genesis's atmosphere). The second conversion kit turns Ertls Enterprise-D into the dreadnoughted (or WRONG, EVIL, BAD, ANTI-GENE) Enterprise-D from "All Good Things..." Starships should have an even number of warp nacelles. And thats official. I hope to be bringing you some more information on the kit situation as Star Trek: Voyager kits are to be produced by Monogram/Revell. Will Ertl/AMT continue with Star Trek kits next year? Time will tell. Rumour mill ------------- Playmates Voyager toys will not appear in the US until 1996 due to production problems. Couldn't they just coat a teaspoon with plastic... that's the Voyager!?! Franklin Mint are looking at doing a pewter USS Voyager. Suprise, suprise! Playmates already have plans for the next movie including an Enterprise-E toy... shame they don't know what it looks like yet! More Star Trek Micromachines are on the way, but Galoob are a bit annoyed with Playmates as they wanted to do Micromachine playsets as with their Star Wars range... but Playmates Innerspace series beat them to it! Expect some Voyager Micromachines and more vessels from Trek lore.
