½³ Demo Reviews ¼² Demos from The Gathering'94 ²- "Sequential" by Andromeda. ¹ Having been under production for about 2 years, Sequential was finally released at The Gathering 1994. It was earlier given the name "Q.E.D." but this was changed due to the fact that Talent released a demo with that very name at The Gathering 1993. Then, after TG93 HeadX planned to release it at Rendesvouz'93 but it wasn't finished. HeadX has coded this demo and it's his first demo for Andromeda even though he has been in the group for a long time. The demo starts off with the best part of the demo. Letters resembling an "Andromeda" logo falls down and shivers as jelly. This is the most impressive part of the demo for non-coders. HeadX follows up this with a rollercoaster with loops and curves, a nice "mirror"-effect inside a cube and an inconvex magnet-vector with balls being attracted to the magnet. The graphics are astounding as always in Andromeda releases. Fairfax and Quest has drawn the graphics and done an impressive job. The soundtracks is very varied and of course of good quality. The best part of the music is the end theme which can melt anyone. The design is generally good but lacks the little bit Andromeda demos like "Mind Riot" and "D.O.S." has got. But, I guess HeadX has his own ways of designing ³"Sequential" really deserved to win The Gathering'94!¹ ²Scores: Coding: 7/10 Graphics: 9/10 Soundtrack: 8/10 Design: 8/10 Overall: 8/10 ²- "Friday by eight" by Polka Brothers. ¹ "Friday by eight" attained third place in the democompetition at The Gathering'94. It starts with a logo rendered by Colin which looks very good. The first thing you notice when the demo has started is the perfect timing. Airwalk has timed every little effect to the music very good, and the music by Slide and Dice has many heavy rythms making it very capable of handling timing very good. The first effects are a "funny" vector cube, some nice tunnels, splines,3d spacecut and some rotating pictures of "cars", a "Polka" logo and some other screens. Then, a picture by Mount fades in. This picture is not amazing. You are able to do better things with the AGA chipset. This is an AGA demo and should have graphics supporting it. Some other effects are a linetunnel, which gives you a real "flying-feeling" and is very well coded and a ball made out of lines. The design is generally good and gives us reason to wait with exitement for the next demo from Polka Brothers. Music by Slide and Dice. Fast and funky, suiting the demo. The music-synchronization is awesome! ²Scores: Coding: 6/10 Graphics: 5/10 Music: 7/10 Design: 6/10 Overall: 6/10 ²- "Quite Unusual" by Razor 1911 ¹ Of course, this is a quite unusual demo. Colorbird and Lizardking are the main men behind this bigscreen demo. The only "effect" to talk about is an animation of a city. the animation is stretched out to fill the whole screen so it doesn't look that good on a monitor or TV-set. The animation runs three times before we're cut off and an end-part-scroller conquers the screen. The soundtrack by Lizardking is nice and fits in the atmosphere. The titlepicture from ³Danny/Spaceballs¹ is excellent as always. The design is normal. nothing special in the production from Razor 1911 A bigscreen demo which takes a lot of space. The reason why we haven't given this demo a "Coding"-score is that it is no code in it except a graphicsstretch routine that most coders could do. The graphics score is pulled down because the lack of graphics e.t.c. ²Scores: Coding: -- Music: 6/10 Graphics: 6/10 Design: 5/10 Overall: 5/10
