²¼    Seperatism destroys the scene!

Don't  we  have  enough problemes with
compability?   What's this again?  Did
I   really  spend  2500,-DM  for  this
damned computer just to be told that I
need AGA?"

   What  you've  just  read wasn't the
outcry  of  a  slightly  dumb PC-owner
trying  to make X-dos'sed demos run on
his 268 run, but a small excerpt of my
all day life...

   Is  it  braggery  here  to tell you
that I own an A4000/030?  Naaaw, don't
think  so.   But let me start from the
very verge...

   In  early  August I finally got the
feeling  to  buy  a new computer.  And
since  I wanted to remain on AMIGA for
a real long time, I decided to get one
of  the  big  machines.   All  I could
afford   then   was  a  A4000/030  and
therefore  I  bought this one.  In the
very  beginning  I  only had troubles.
The  HD wouldn't run, one soundchannel
was   buzzing  the  hell  off  my  ass
(especially  for  a  musician  quite a
disturbance), I had to exchange one of
my  externals  with  another  one  but
finally...   all  fell into place real
nicely!

   Then  -  it  all started when I got
this  sending with that damn demo from
DCS.  It didn't work.  I had to change
the  chipset  to  original  to make it
run!   Well,  at least it ran afterall
although  I  still quite don't get the
joke.  Then a demo from a German group
beginning  with an "A" (Abyss know who
I   mean)  came  in.   Now  what?   It
repeadetly told me ³"NO AGA - NO DEMO!"¹
Haha,  nice  joke,  folks...   Who has
AGA?   Your A1200 or my A4000?!?  Both
the  same  I  guess so why the hell do
you  do  this  to  me?   But  the  row
continues.     TILT!    Every   second
so called AGA-demo is A1200 only.

   Demos  start  up, telling me that I
own  a 68EC030 processor with 2MB chip
and 2MB fast (as if I don't know that)
and  then  the  demo  draws  the wrong
conclusions  of  it and degenerates my
A4000/030  to a A500.  Ehrm, moooment!
The  difference  between a 68000 and a
68EC030 or even 68EC040 isn't too hard
to  figure  out  (I  shall suggest you
should open your computer now and look
inside,    then    take    the    next
bigger/smaller  machine  and compare),
so why no compability upwards?

   Maybe  I  get  things  wrong, but I
thought it is hard to make non-AGA and
AGA-machines  compatible and there has
been quite a big fuzz about that.  The
A1200  owner  cried in the first place
to   get   demos  that  run  on  their
machines  -  and  the  A500 scene just
laughed,  now that AGA slowly vanishes
the  A500,  no  one  pays attention to
their  cries.   Chauvinism and dealing
with   statussymbols   contamine   the
scene.   A  mood  of  false  eliterian
ambientes is creates.

   Now  it  seems,  the socalled elite
splits  up  totally.   Seperate scenes
are  created  by  thoughtlessness.  Or
are  people just too lazy to read some
simple lines from the AGA-docs?

   It  seems  in the scene we have too
much  smallheads  who  can't look over
the  edge of their own hat.  The A1200
can't  exist  alone.  Jealousy doesn't
help  either.   Don't come and tell me
that you don't have access to an A4000
since   the   rate   of  sold  highend
computers   is  growing  and  growing.
Many  of  us  would love to check your
productions  before.  The coders of my
own  group send their demos to me so I
can  check everything - why isn't this
possible for other groups?

²   Think   if   you   want   so   much
seperatism...   it also means we A4000
users  won't  spread  the demo.  Quite
risky   for   the   yet   quite  young
AGA-scene isn't it?
