Before we delve into this issue's tips, I must let people know of a problem with some PSX machines! I've just found out that some PSX machines are being returned to shops due to a fault! If you open up your PSX and look at the small piece where you put your CD's onto, look below it and you should see a metal circle. (Well, mine is metal and hopefully yours is too.) It should be silver in colour, but if yours is black, then I would advise you to either return your PSX to the shop or take it up with Sony! I'm not talking about the actual part which holds your CD's in place (the bit which shows through the hole on your CD's), but the part just below it. (Buggered if I know the name of the part! Sorry.) You'll know what I'm talking about the minute you open your PSX lid. If anyone knows the name of this part or has any more info, please let the readers know. All I know is that if yours is black in colour, then after a while it will wear away and your CD's will slip which obviously means you won't be able to play 'em! So I'd get it sorted now if I were you :-) ]5How's that for a handy tip?]1 Now let's move onto some game tips.... @6 --+--@1 *4@5THEME PARK*1@1 Type in your nickname as BOVINE (Dunno why either, but do it!) Then enter your Name and Park Name as anything you wish to call 'em and during a game simply press the SQUARE, CIRCLE and X buttons (at the same time) on your control pad to increase your balance. You can do this as many times as you want during a game. You'll then be able to purchase all the rides and shops. etc. Obviously you can make so much money that you'll be able to buy new land and build bigger Theme Parks too :-) Some PSX magazines stated that the cheat is obtained by pressing the CIRCLE, X and START buttons! Forget this, it don't work. Use the above method instead. *4@5FORMULA ONE*1@1 I bet ya all know these tips by now, but just in case.... All tips to be entered on the RACE, QUALIFY or PRACTICE screen. You also have to enter the button presses rather quickly, so please practice until the cheat appears. BONUS TRACK Hold SELECT and press the following: LEFT, CIRCLE, CIRCLE, TRIANGLE, TRIANGLE, CIRCLE, UP & RIGHT. BUGGY MODE Hold SELECT and press the following: RIGHT, UP, TRIANGLE, LEFT, UP, SQUARE & TRIANGLE. BIKE MODE Hold SELECT and press the following: DOWN, UP, CIRCLE, TRIANGLE, RIGHT, UP, SQUARE & TRIANGLE. LAVA MODE Hold SELECT and press the following: SQUARE, CIRCLE, UP, RIGHT, RIGHT, CIRCLE & CIRCLE. GIBBERISH MODE LEFT, CIRCLE, UP, DOWN, DOWN, RIGHT, CIRCLE, SQUARE and SQUARE. Did Steve Bye pay to advertise in the game of F1 on the PSX? Well, try going round the IMOLA circuit (San Marino) and about halfway round on the right hand side you should see the F1 logo! (Bit of fun, that's all.) Here's some F1 tips written by Dave Kirk of Apex Systems (Blobz, World Of Golf and World of F1 fame) - ]5over to you Dave, me old m8yplops....]1 Set the race set-up to dry weather, 20% distance, and the car set-up to infinite (0) fuel, no chassis or tyre damage. Also set the difficulty to HARD when you've had plenty of practice, or MODERATE if you're a beginner, and choose to drive as either Hill (hooray!) or Schumacher (boo!). With these settings, a race will last for between 10-15 laps and take between 18 and 22 minutes to complete. [6 If you're on a 20% race, switching tyre damage ON is crazy! Your tyres will fuck up about 2 laps from the end, and there's no way you can pull out enough of a lead to make a pit-stop. Of course, if you don't change 'em, you can't accelerate round corners safely, or even clip the kerb with the tyres - it'll spin the car around... Car damage should always be switched OFF. The computer cars are so blatently stoopid, they will ram you off the road as soon as look at you. Basically, your car will get trashed at the first corner as 20 odd cars plough into the back of you. Artificial intelligence? Nah! Artificial Stupidity, more like! Car set-up is ]5VERY]1 important! Obviously if the car is invincible with unlimited fuel, there's only the wing settings to worry about. Hockenheim (Germany) has a really long straight section of track, so it's very tempting to use minimum downforce so the car can reach 220mph+. ]3DON'T DO THIS]1, because the distance you gain on the straights will be lost as you crawl round the sharp corners. Set the downforce to half (two notches from top or bottom). The car will still get to about 205mph on the straights, but going around the tight corners is much easier. If a car is right behind you on approach to a corner, don't stay on the outside and dive into it as you normally would. Stay more towards the left to block his path, otherwise you'll just get shoved off half way through the turn. Learn to control the car on grass! I'm guessing you've already spent a lot of unwanted time here! The best way to move on recovery from a spin on grass is to stay in 1st or 2nd gear and "blip" the accelerate button, and DON'T ACCELERATE WHILE TURNING! By "blipping", I mean hold accelerate for about 1 sec, and release it for about ¼ sec, and repeat it until you're safe. Holding down the accelerator for any length of time while on grass will just make the car spin again. EASY TRACKS FOR RELATIVE BEGINNER? Monza (Italy) Suzuka (Japan) Monaco (Monte Carlo) HARDEST TRACKS ON THE GAME? Estoril (Portugal) Nurburgring (Europe) Spa Francorchamps (Belgium) FAST TRACKS? Monza (Italy) Hockenheim (Germany) Imola (San Marino) Magny-Cours (France) SLOW TRACKS? Monaco (Monte Carlo) Hungaroring/Budapest (Hungary) Buenos Aires (Argentina) Oh yeah, don't bother trying to slipstream other cars - ]5it don't work!]1 Thanx for the tips Dave. Enough of F1 for the moment, let's do one more game tip for you this issue which is... *4@5DOOM*1@1 Start a game and Pause it and press RIGHT, LEFT, R2, R1, TRIANGLE, L1, CIRCLE and CROSS (X). You should now be able to press right and left to select which level you wanna play. (I've yet to try this tip on my copy of DOOM, but hopefully it should work.) I've actually not played DOOM (Ultimate) but only DOOM II which is on the same PSX Disc. Here's some levels that I've completed. One more tip you may like to know of, AFCD8 has a couple of utils which will let you rip pics from PSX games! (Well, from the discs anyway!)
