Time Warner Interactive will release a 3-D hockey game starring Wayne Gretzky for Nintendo Ultra 64 in the fall of 1996. The game will be based on Time Warner Interactive's coin-op hockey game to be launched in arcades during spring 1996. The real-time, 3-D rendered hockey game will utilize the full potential of the Nintendo Ultra 64 technology to give players a visually stunning, immersive, lightning-fast game play experience. All-time NHL scoring leader and four-time Stanley Cup champion Wayne Gretzky will personally be involved in the design and mechanics of the game. Gretzky's own unique brand of skating style has been digitized to reflect real skating motions and competitive hockey moves. The game will be a 3-on-3 plus goalie competition featuring immersive, 3-D environments and players. An intelligent camera that focuses in on the game play with a 360-degree rotation around the rink will allow for many different vantage points while an extensive library of hockey-specific skating moves makes the action as realistic as possible. And with the National Hockey League Players Association license, real NHL players' names, statistics, profiles and physical likenesses give the game a true sense of realism. "It's a pleasure to announce Time Warner Interactive as a member of the Nintendo Ultra 64 Dream Team," says Howard Lincoln, chairman, Nintendo of America. "The amazing technology inherent in the Nintendo Ultra 64 hardware makes it the perfect system for producing sporting titles such as Time Warner's new Wayne Gretzky hockey game. We're confident that this title will help make Nintendo Ultra 64 the system of choice for video sports players." "Nintendo Ultra 64 will be a very important platform for the video game industry and it's a system we plan to fully support," says Dan Van Elderen, president of Time Warner Interactive, "To reach the consumer side of the business with our high-end arcade games, Nintendo Ultra 64 is the ideal system. It's powerful enough to handle a true 3-D sports game and recreate the excitement of the arcade experience." Nintendo Ultra 64 is a product of a worldwide joint effort combining Nintendo's expertise in video game development with the foremost visual computing technologies from Silicon Graphics (NYSE: SGI). This same technology has been used by leading visual effects facilities in numerous blockbuster motion pictures. Nintendo's 64-bit system will be available for home use in spring of 1996 and will carry a suggested retail price of below $250.
