And remember how we all commented on how amazing the special effects were, and how they were the most impressive so far. Now, watch the latest Star Trek movie and re-think your views... @6 -+-@1 Star Trek: First Contact is the first Star Trek movie to feature solely the next generation crew. Without giving too much away, the main plot of the film is centred around the Borg returning with the intention of assimilating Earth. (Okay, so it's another movie storyline that deals with the potential downfall of the entire human race. But, I think they can be forgiven this time.) To do this the Borg travel back in time in order to sabotage Earth's first contact with an alien race, and therefore preventing the creation of the Federation and humans ever taking to the stars. Naturally, the Enterprise in in close pursuit and an epic battle follows. First Contact is a sort of sequel to an episode in the ST:TNG series called The Best Of Both Worlds, in which Picard is abducted by the Borg and partially assimilated. One of the highpoints of the movie is the new Enterprise E (as the D was destroyed in Generations). With the help of Industrial Light & Magic the new ship looks stunning. Another major improvement is the appearance of the Borg. In the series they were portrayed as humans with a bit of plastic tubing on, but in the film they are evil bastards. In fact I would even go as far as to say there's a hint of the Aliens movies in First Contact. Something that I liked about First Contact was that there was plenty of humour in there but the scenario was kept very serious at the same time. Also, look out for a guest appearance by the holographic doctor from Voyager. All in all, Star Trek: First Contact is an excellent movie that should not be missed whether you're a die-hard Trekkie or simply an action/sci-fi fan. In fact the only thing I didn't like about the film was the plastic models. What am I talking about? Well, if you see the film just look for the bit near the end where Picard smashes the glass container with all the Gold-coloured models of the various Enterprises. Now surely these would be made out of gold or some sort of metal. But it turns out they are PLASTIC! Now maybe it's just me but I just didn't think this was quite right. Err... enough of my petty critisiums! Star Trek: First Contact is a must-see movie so just get out there and... err... see it! (Hell! It must be good as even Barry Norman liked it and it wasn't in French with subtitles!!!!)
