|1-England V Scotland an I-was-there article done by Mammoth/Syndicate First, this article is not biased in any way, there is no preference to either side here, I saw the match as an interested spectator. |1-DID I BOLLOCKS!!!! |1-ENGLAND!! ENGLAND!! ENGLAND!!!! 9:00 am ------- Woke up and had breakfast, have to be in Richmond by 11:00 am to wake my mate up who has the tickets, set off to East Croydon with the essentials, 100 quid, England away shirt on and St.George flag over my shoulder. Reach Richmand and go to mates place, we go into local pub and down a few beers, place is packed, he gives me my ticket which goes straight into wallet, set off for Wembley about 1:00pm. 2:00pm ------ Reach Wembley park tube station and walk up to ground, observe massive police presence and lots of Scotland fans around, get to ground, more jocks singing and dancing, England fans start singing in retaliation "You`ve never won fuck all" and my favourite "Costa Rica 1 Scotland 0 hallelujah!". Jocks get angry, loads of police so nowt happens. In ground, take seat in top tier on bend near Scotland fans, note lots of Scottish flags in with England fans, they are singing, we are singing, atmos is good. 2-50pm ------ Teams come out to a tumultuous roar, flags are raised and voices heard, the jocks try to drown out God Save the Queen but fail, the Englishmans heart is in his voice today. The good thing was the fact that we drowned out Flower of Scotland, 1-0 to the England fans! 3-00pm ------ Kick off, Scotland get a lot of posession but not much else, few chances here and there, thats it really for the first half, the only other interesting bit was when a drunk Scotsman fell down the stairs, poor sod did`nt know where he was. 4-00pm ------ Second half, Redknapp is on for Psycho, straight away the difference is there, Mcmanaman goes close, the crowd are rising expecting something, then good interplay on the right, Neville crosses, Shearer is there at the far post, thak you very much, one-nil. Cue scenes of orgasmic delight from the England fans, I get hugged by a fat Chelsea fan for about thirty seconds, who cares, we`re one up, silence to our left. 4-25pm ------ Scotland are pressing, Durie gets a header which Seaman saves, then with ten minutes to go Tony Adams brings down Gordon Durie for a Scottish penalty, this is not good. Mcallister runs up to take the pen amidst a cresendo of whistles, belts the ball and Seaman saves it somehow, the ball goes out for a corner and we are ecstatic. From the corner the ball goes out for a goal kick which Seaman takes, Gascgoigne to Mcmanaman, flicked back to Gascgoigne who lobs the ball over Colin Hendry and smashes it past Andy Goram. The rest you can guess for yourselves, just add large Chelsea fan sitting down crying his eyes out. 4-50pm ------ The final whistle goes, Swing low sweet Chariot and two-nil to the England can be heard reverberating around Wembley, the jocks are quiet and we are happy. Walk down Wembley Way singing and dancing a conga with about 500 other people, get to Clapham Junction where I say goodbye to my mate and go towards platform 13 to go home. Get back around eightish and change cos my shirt is stuck to my back, what a memorable day. Update ------ We got to the semifinals before cruelly losing to the bloody Germans again, but we can hold our heads up high and say that English football is a force to be reckoned with again... I still say we peaked to early against Holland. end
