@2Breathless from Fields of Vision:- A1200/A4000 only 2 Meg required 3 Meg required to run from workbench @3 68030 + recommended for large screens @5 Price £29.99 Reviewer: Converse Having just bought the Blizzard 030 board I was pleased to see a game release that would push the board a bit. Alright, pushes the board to the limit! The game is yet another blatant Doom rip off. For those who have been living in a cupboard for the past few years, Doom is a game on the P.C which sees you walking around complex, highly detailed, texture mapped, processor intensive type graphics sort of corridors. Kind of. #6More>>> @5 Breathless tries to do something which the Amiga is um' pretty crap at. So far we have seen Breed 3D, Citadel and Fears. Fears' graphics were crap. Citadels weren't much better and I don't care what you say. Contrary to popular opinion I don't think Breed 3D was much good either, the gameplay was bearable, but the graphics were, in all fairness shite. @5 So what's Breathless' graphics like? Bluddy amazing that's what they are! I have spent hours upon hours playing this game to death and I can say right now the graphics are amazing, in fact I would say they #6More>>> @5 actually BEAT DOOMs!! The gameplay on Breathless is excellent. I found myself settling in to the game after a matter of seconds. Even Devil thought the game had just beaten Doom and he's a P.C user! (although he owns an ST as well) There are several aliens that you must battle against. The first type that you will come across is the lanky grey aliens which move at quite @5 a pace, another robot that you will come across is the gold and grey robot which moves like lightning, is big, takes ages to kill and quite frankly peeves me off because it has this tendancy to run towards me and then straight past me, thus shooting me from behind. I know some people will like this, such as Molgy and people who like a challenge, but it gets on my nerves a bit, but in a good way #6More>>> @5 though, if you see what I mean. The levels can get a bit confusing, but then those clever and generous chaps of Power Computing + Fields of vision have included an online @5 map which is accessible by pressing the tab key. Although killing the robots is the main part of the game, there is plenty more such as opening doors (I could do that when I was 2) and finding keys which will open other doors previously locked. The keys are scattered about the levels and you must find them if you want to progress to the next zone or level. Keys come in various colours such as red, green, blue and yellow. If you need to open a door which needs a green key then obviously you have to hunt around for a green key, isn't it just amazing the ideas they come up with? #6More>>> @5 Also along your way you can pick up a few weapons and weapons boosts, @5 health points, terminal keys, shields and money. The terminal key enables you to tap into the main network interface which will give you a choice of some pretty nifty weapons such as double shot, magnetic blaster thingy, fireballs, flamethrower and deathmachine. Each of these weapons can be further enhanced (if you have enough dosh) by selecting weapons boost on the terminal interface. Try buying the death machine and boosting that, great fun, if you're rich. There are so many nice touches in this game such as the ability to look up or down. The ability to turn around 360 degrees, acceleration, side step, the scenery when you get outside the building of what looks like a large dock yard and hillside views... all are brilliant #6More>>> @5 touches. It has to be said that Breathless has nicked a few ideas from Doom on the P.C, but instead of just copying them, F.O.V + P.C have improved @5 things and created some excellent gameplay. Breathless will no doubt be the Amigas answer to Doom ('bout time too). No more will Amiga owners be subdued to losing the P.C vs Amiga argument from the P.C owner saying Doom. Sorry P.C ites, Doom has great grahics, but as a game it's crap. Breathless looks better and the playability and addictiveness kicks ass, not to mention the amount saved on not buying a bloody big uneconomic P.C. There I've said it. #6More>>> @5 Graphics: 95% @5 Sound: 89% Not as breath-taking as the graphics, but still good Addictiveness: 94% You'll keep coming back to it for more Playability: 94% It's rude. Overall 94% Excellent, but with the lack of the word Island or inclusion of monkeys, it just falls short of that game of Islands and monkeys. Kinda'. Comment: Breathless is BLOODY and brilliant, buy it.
