B I O R H Y T H M S by Kevin Rahe Biorhythms are the theoretical life cycles which affect our lives. Unlike Astrology and other superstitions, the invention, or rather the discovery, of biorhythms was not based on something external such as the stars, or solar or climatic cycles. They were originally hypothesized by a group of European doctors who noticed that many patients' health seemed to fluctuate in regular rhythms. These doctors plotted the mental, physical, and intellectual cycles of patients, and came up with what we know today as biorhythms. The cycles are supposed to start on the day you're born, and continue in regular cycles from there. The cycle lengths are: Physical - 23 days; Emotional - 28 days; Intellectual - 33 days. Each cycle starts at the 0 point at your birth, then travels upward in the positive direction from there. An entire cycle consists of an upward arc, then down through the 0 line, a downward arc (negative side), and finally a swing back up to the 0 line. Where a cycle is at any given time has a certain significance. For example, if your Physical cycle is at its lowest point, the theory is that you are more likely to contract an illness on that day than on others. The day on which a cycle crosses the 0 line, or a 0-day, is considered to be a period of imbalance, and can be especially dangerous. When a cycle peaks at its highest point, that is supposed to be a time of "good luck". For example, the day on which your Intellectual cycle hits its highest peak would be a good day to take an exam. Multiple cycles reaching any of these critical points simultaneously compound the effect. For example, a day on which 2 or more cycles peak at their highest point would be a good day to buy a Lottery ticket. Likewise, a double or triple 0-day could be especially harmful. It is interesting to look months or years ahead and see the good and bad days in store for you, but it is more interesting to look into the past to see if your biorhythms really correlate with the events in your life. If your biorhythms don't match your life, perhaps one of your cycles is askew, which means it didn't start on the day you were born. If there is a correlation between your biorhythms and the events in your life, you may be able to take a look into the future. It is said that if you KNOW of a bad day coming up, you may neutralize its effect if you are aware of it and are extra-careful on that day. And if a good day comes along where 2 or more cycles are at their peak, this is a good time to buy lottery tickets or gamble. Some of this may sound a bit far-fetched, and some of it might sound rather logical. In any case, take it with a grain of salt, and try it out on yourself to satisfy your own mind. Most importantly, have FUN with it!
