Guitar Playing - great fun

Quite  recently (March 1995) I bought a guitar because it is something I
have always wanted to learn to play.  I splashed out 200 quid and got an
Encore  Squire  Stratocaster  and  Park  Amplifier  plus  a few books on
tuning, playing and chords.

For  the first few weeks nothing much happened, i couldnt change chords,
everything  was  bum notes and I was getting pissed off, but slowly I am
getting  more  and  more competant, I can now hit most chords first time
after  about half an hours practice and am learning to play a few licks.
Most  of  my playing is Nirvana stuff (cos its so easy) like Come as you
Are, Breed, Lithium and Aneurysm, I can also play Sweet Child O` Mine by
Guns N Roses.

Playing  a guitar is a social thing, people come to my place, see my axe
and  say  to  me  "Give us a tune then" so I play around two strings and
four  frets, it does impress people no end.  Yesterday I got a slide bar
that  you  stick your finger into (oo-er) to play slide, and i am off to
Ipswich tomorrow to get a chorus effects pedal so my guitar playing will
sound  like  Peter Buck from REM.  Its great after a hard days coding on
the  `pooter  to  sit  down,  pick  up  the  axe  and just play it, well
relaxing.

The ultimate guitar setup would be a Gibson Les Paul 59 (think of Slash)
plus  a  chorus  pedal,  a  Distortion  and  a wah-wah running through a
Marshall  Half  stack  system.   Oh,  and  the  combined talents of Dave
Gilmour, Slash, Kirk Hammett and Peter Green.
