HUGH'S `DIVINE' BLUES

It didn't take long for a wily entrepreneur to cash in on the Hugh Grant
prostitution scandal.

Onsale  outside  the  Hollywood  courthouse  where Hugh Grant and Divine
Brown appeared, accused of lewd conduct, are specially printed T-Shirts.

They read:  "To Err Is Hughman...  To forgive is Divine".

SPEAK AFTER THE BEEP...

The  mayor  of  a Toronto suburb has put voice mail on hold by decreeing
that  a  real  person  must  answer  all goverment calls during business
hours.

"It's  the  stupidest thing I have ever seen in my life," said mayor Mel
Lastman  of  those  irritating  telephone  messages  featured in so many
offices.

Lastman   recieved  343  calls  of  support  in  seven  hours  following
publicity.

CHEAP AND FLAMIN' HOT

South  African  potter  Thijs Nel says ceramic homes are the solution to
the country's [Africa's] severe housing shortage.

He  built  a  prototype clay house from inverted soup bowls, and says at
only £80 a square yard to build, they could be afforded on a "very basic
loan".

Nel  put  a  "flame  thrower"  in  one  of  the doors to "fire" it.  The
structure can withstand wind, rain and mild quake.

HASSAN, THE MEMORY MAN... YEAH RIGHT!

King  Hassan of Morocco did the unthinkable when he hosted a banquet for
his  friend  French  president  Jacques Chirac...  he forgot his guest's
name!

To  make  matters worse, he invited diners to toast Francois Mitterrand,
the  former  leader  which  is  not  expected to go down in history as a
friend of Marocco.

The  king had known Chirac for 20 years.  Amid red faces, some saw it as
a joke.

A  Russian  travelling circus came to town in the Philippines a year ago
and had to stay because it ran out of money.

Children  have  been  paying  pennies  to  watch  performances and local
traders  have suppiled unsold fruit and vegetables to the animals of the
All-Stars Russian Circus, stranded in Davao city.

It would cost around £300,000 for the Russian Embassy to fly it back.

An  elderly French couple thought a ferry's car deck was a car park when
when they popped over to Dover on a day trip.

They  drove onto Stena Sealink's Fastasia ship in Calias, but got off as
foot-passengers, thinking they had parked back home.

Worried  crew  called  poice, but later returned the car to France where
its owners were wandering the car parks.

MULTI-MURDERER HARRI GETS A... TROPHY

A  teenager  has  swatted  his  way  to a world mosquito-killing record,
finishing off 21 in five minutes at a contest in arctic Lapland.

Finn  Harri  Pellonpea,  17,  defeated 20 other entrants who bared arms,
legs and chests to attract the mosquitoes.

Harri  receieved  a  trophy  and a weekend for two in Lapland - a summer
favourite for mosquitoes.

A UFO SAYS HELLO TO SONY

A  man  claiming  to be an expert in unidentifiued flying objects says a
music  video  of  a  popular  singer  may  show  a  flying saucer in the
background.

The  object  was  captured on videotape by a cameraman filming a outdoor
scene  near  Santo  Domingo  a  few weeks ago for a video of singer Eddy
Herrera.

Danilo  Rodriguez  said:  "Evidently we have witnessed the presence of a
UFO."

TURN YOUR `HOSEPIPE' ON EVERY OTHER DAY

A water company has come up with a odd way to aviod hosepipe bans as the
heatwave continues.

Mid-Kent Water suggested people in houses with even numbers should water
their gardens only on even days of the month, and those with odd numbers
should water only on odd days.

Managing director Mike Clark said:  "This would help save water to avoid
bringing in a hosepipe ban."

Tomoyuki  says  he  designed the earrings to sit on pressure points that

HMM... TASTY ARTERTIES FOR LUNCH

A man who drank the blood of a passer-by after he bit through an arterty
in  his  neck  has been arrested in the town of Tula, 125 miles south of
Moscow.

The  20-year-old  homeless  "vampire"  told  the  police  he  had  first
developed a taste for blood in the army.

He  claimed  to  have  carried  out  several other similar acts in other
regions of Russia, said the Tass news agency.
