|2- TV Licence |1- The Great |1- Rip-off By Phil!95/Neo. Ha! The BBC TV licence.. What complete bollox. Why is the BBC still calling it a 'LICENCE?' Surely its really a compulsory subscription? Ok, in the dark and distant past when the BBC was the only broadcasting company around it would be acceptable but these days with all the other alternatives, its just stupid and annoying! I saw an advert the other day which basically said "pay up or get fined £1000". Well thats a right rivetting reason to get a Licence isnt it? I suppose if you didnt pay the fine you'd be thrown in prison with other enemies of society like muggers and rapists.. Its sick that it is law that you are forced to pay for what amounts to an entertainment service, especially when there are other companies providing the same thing for nothing! ^12^^55 The BBC tries to justify the licence by banging on how infinately better their programmes are. Bullshit! ITV shows just as good documentaries, dramas and news, better in some cases! Big deal, you have to put up with adverts, so what? I'd rather have adverts than have the law forcing you to pay for the BBC. Some people say 'Ah yes, but through buying the products advertised on ITV you are indirectly paying for the programmes'. True, but you dont have to buy the big name advertised products - you have a choice - you dont with the BBC. You'd have to be very naive to assume that if there was no commercial television the price of goods would drop dramatically- companies would just find another way of advertising them, just as costly no doubt and you probably wouldnt get anything in return! I reckon BBC TV should be scrambled and if people want to watch it they buy a decoder! Wonder how many people would bother? What really pisses me off though, is that at a time when communism and secret police organisations are being broken up in Eastern European type countries,in Britain we have sad cases going around in TV detector vans, snooping around to find out who aint paid their licence! "1984" ring a bell? Hopefully, as time goes on the BBC licence fee will look more and more ridiculous and redundant. Its out of date and un-democratic. Until such times as the powers that be see sense, I can only offer this advice on avoiding the sad TV detector types. 1. Live at the top floor of a block of flats! 2. Only buy a black 'n' white licence and get a colour TV! If you get any shit say youre colour blind! 3. If you live on yer own, only buy a MONITOR for yer computer and no TV. Also get a cheapo video (or TV tuner box) and connect em together via the composite socket, using the RGB for yer computer. Keep the VHS/ tuner well out of sight! Claim you only use the monitor for the computer - it cant receive TV signals! |1-Phil!95/Neo
