@t3,17 @^@f05@t1@cThe end of the CCC? @f00@t4CCC@ta - three letters that changed the world of electronic communication services, databanks, top secret codes, etc as a whole. Well, of course I am thinking of the legendary @t4CHAOS COMPUTER CLUB@ta, now existing for more than 10 years, whose members managed to crush nearly all codes they wanted to. Founded as an informationforum for hacker, it soon turned out as being not only a pool for technical adventurer with anarchistic ideas, but also for revolutioneers of modern technology. They crunched socalled "absolutly safe" computercode-programs and then made @^ their newest hacks public in order to show the eggheads that there can not be a real unhackable protection-system. Their very first operation was hacking the obscure safetysystem of the German post mailbox-btx in 1984. Two of the CCCler managed to convince the computers that they were a German bank and brought an amount of 135,-DM on their private bank account. Not that much? Yes, you are right, but imagine: When they were able to do this, wouldn't they be able to do more extreme things, too? @# @t3,17 @^@f00@taAfter this operation, the CCC soon became an instance for all hackers that got illegally into security computer-systems. One of the founders of the CCC says: "We wanted to help the guys, because those were no real criminals, they only wanted to show mistakes!" One probleme always remaining was to differ between real ideological hacker and those that simply wanted to make money with illegal methods, because if someone, who was protected by the name of the CCC, turned out as being a real criminal, the whole image of the club would be destroyed. The most popular and spectacular operation was of course the omnious @t4NASA@ta-hack. Freaks found a small hint to get into its safety system. Real hot got the whole thing, however, when some other hackers managed to get some @^information and sold it to the KGB. Wieckmann states, that "the whole thing got a number too big for us." After 1987, the CCC-heads refused to hide hackers behind their name. Soon the CCC got more and more inactive, because there were no real tasks for them to fullfil anymore. Today there are more and more people, who lost the hacking spirit within the CCC - they do nothing except phreaking and other unspectacular rubbish. Nothing remained from the old spirit of the big days and also a lot of the old members left. Even the old chief called WAU HOLLAND had to leave his place to a new guy called FRANK "TERRA" SIMON. WIEKMANN tells it in his way: "We did ten years of positive work, but like Gorbatchev: One has to know, when one has to leave." @# @t3,17 @k384,056,09 @^@f00@t1If the CCC finally found its end? Maybe, but probably not! Nowadays, there are quite new forces with new goals in the club. Therefore, also the eights congress of the CCC in December'91 showed this development: They did new things, but not less anarchistically than they did ten years before. So, let us hope that the CCC will stay and change the business some more in the future. Maybe the unactive break of the last three years was needed to reactivate old forces... @t6>>> @t1RokDaZone @t6<<< @@
