@t4,15 @^@f04@t1@cSupercom Pro.1 Review @f00@ta Well here it is,the next generation of cartridge copiers. You may have seen pictures of the magicom in recent magazines, and this is a similar piece of hardware kit. It works for the Super Famicom (If you hadn't already guessed). And basically what you do is plug your latest and most expensive cartridge (which you have just hired for 80p) into the Supercom which is itself plugged into your Jap Famicom. You then switch on and select COPY CARD from a menu and within a minute your new game is on disk. The next stage is to take your cart back to the shop and get a new one. @^ @t1What do you get? @ta The basic kit consists of the Supercom, a 3.5" High Density drive, a short cable to connect the two and a set of instructions in Japanese. After we've thrown the instructions away it's time to power up. By the way the disk drive runs on a seperate power supply, which isn't supplied. But dont worry its the same as the Fami so buy an identical adaptor (one with a variable output will do, but make sure it is set on the correct voltage of 9V). The Supercom plugs directly into the cartridge port of the Fami and measures approx 15cm-18cm-4cm. On the back of the Supercom are two ports. One is for connecting to your disk drive the other @# @t4,15 @^@f00@tais for connecting to your PC XT/AT/ 386/486 computer, so you can download games from your computer, which you had previously downloaded from one of the boards which have console sections. When we have connected the disk drive we can switch on. A menu appears which looks like this....... @tb--------------------------------------- @t3 PLAY GAME FILE PLAY GAME CARD COPY GAME CARD RENAME FILE DELETE FILE FORMAT DISK LOAD GAME DATA SAVE GAME DATA COPY GAME FILE RAM:16M CARD:8M INT SRAM @tb--------------------------------------- @^@taPlay Game File, plays a previously saved game. It lists the files on a disk and waits for you to pick one. One disk formatted to 2Mbytes(16Mbits) will hold two games, one 8Mb and one 4Mb. Or three games each 4Mb. Play Game Card, just plays the cart you have plugged in at the time. Copy Game Card, copies the data from the cart and puts it onto disk. Rename, Delete (obvious). Format, formats HD disks to 1.6 and 1.44 Mb. Load and Save Game Data, loads and saves data which a cart may hold in its memory useing a battery. eg. SuperMarioLand and 3D golf. After playing, turn off your machine then @# @t4,15 @k224,024,07 @^@f00@t1 turn back on again and Save Game Data to disk. Next time you play that game, load up the game data before you load the game file (The Supercom has a battery backup system built in). Copy Game File, from one disk to another so you can swap with your friends.... All in all a very usefull piece of kit, the price only 200 pounds and no need to upgrade as it all ready has 16Mb of memory. Enough for even Street Fighter II. @t3 Written By Manny @@
