police in holland

some days ago there was a real hyster-
ical situation in holland. you see,here
in holland are no laws that forbid
piracy but the police felt that there
had to be done something and that's why
they finally did something.

waking up the next day,many people
turned on their amiga and hst modem to
find out that all bbs's (or at least
most of them) were gone!! everybody
started calling eachother,to find out
how bad the scene was damaged but it
seemed at the moment that only the
modemtraders had been touched. all
mailtraders were relieved.

after some time most of the bbs's were
on-line again,so the action by the
police seems to have failed completely.
it's impossible yet to tell how many
arrest and raids have been made,but i
don't expect a new razzia in the next
few months/years(?),since the police
thinks they have immensly frightened
all computer people. well,they haven't.

nevertheless,i was quite confused when
i heard the news and rushed to my home
to make sure all illegal stuff,adress-
books etc. were safe. later i thought
that i had been overreacting quite a lot
since nothing really happened.

it's hard to say how to prevent the cops
from breaking in to your house and arres
ting you are confiscatng all software.
but let me say one thing:

the police has absolutely  n  o  right
to do anything with your computer if
they have no search warrant !!!! if you
are prosecuted it could even save your
neck if they didn't had one!!
