BEFa3000 versus a3000DFA er... what's this? well,it's a test,we can tell you now. it's a test between an amiga 3000 (yeah!) and an archimedes 3000 (...?). although the archimedes was released some time before the amiga 3000 i think there has been no real equal contestant for the archimedes. but now amiga introduces the a3000 and let's see who will win the test. the archimedes is quite expensive, but so is the amiga. the amiga, however, has got an enormous pile of software to fall back on and the archimedes hasn't. the software for the archimedes never really started. so the fact is that people are talking about both machines as a business^machine, although the one was intended to be so(the amiga) and the other wasn't really intended to be so (the archimedes). also slight problem: when the amiga was introduced all the software was ported over from the atari^st (and still is, sadly). but since the archimedes is a completely new system, this procedure is not possible. programmers will have to rewrite all the things they have done again and again. and that's one of the main facts why new computers are not so popular these days, except for the games consoles. (although they have a new sort of games, which are most of the time not ported over and are also not released on any other format). acorn (the producer) is trying hard to sell the machine to the softwarehouses, but these just don't want it. they say: the market nowadays is: atari, amiga,pc and no more. they don't want to have any more problems with writing software. archimedes keeps trying. that's a good choice because the machine is still quite good, believe it or not. and now the test. amiga a3000 ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ ^processor: 16/32 bit motorala:16/25 mhz ^memory 1mb memory expandable to 2 mb ^operating system: kickstart 2.0 from disc ^drive: 880k built in 3.5 drive ^ports (extern): scsi hardware stereo output diskdrive serial parallel rgb/video vga port ^other ports(intern): place for 4 hardware cards place for 1 3.5 inch diskdrive place for harddrive ^graphics: 4096 colours,in ham 4096 on screen ^sound 4 channels stereo through monitor archimedes 3000 ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ ^processor: 32 bits arm:8 mhz ^memory: 1mb memory expandable to 2mb ^operating system: risc/os in 512k rom ^drive: 800k 3.5 built in drive ^ports (extern): rgb/video stereo output parallel rs232 (needs chips) expansion port mono composite/video ^other ports (intern): place for econetcard place for midi^interface place for 1mb memory ^graphics: 4096 colours,256 on screen ^sound 8 channels stereo through built in speakers so much for the test, hope you liked this test of another computer modell. if so, please let me know so i can continue doing it. dr.legal/raf
