1¶382¹MULTIPLAYER GAMES a5by The Secret Science / DEA / The Magic Guild 91It's The Secret Science again tipping the keys for the game players among you. I've created charts for all 4-player-interface and datalink-mode (with RS232 cables) games available. If you've never tried to use these facettes of those (mostly) cool games, you really gonna miss something! So do as I do and have fun with just more than one partner to your side. A new step of entertainment for sure! If you know more games I haven't written here with these options, please contact me immediately as I'm really keen on getting all this great fun!9So here we go: fBest 4-player-interface games: ------------------------------ d1. Dynablasters: 9Up to 5 players. If you want to play with 5 d(96%) 9friends, one needs to use the keyboard. But as always: The more, the better... You really start crying and hating your friends. Do not play after 10:00 PM, if you have nasty neighbours.... b2. Rally Cross Challenge: 9This game with its tiny cars is just too nice not b(94%) 9to be loved with 4 players! d3. Great Courts II: 9At the beginning, this game is difficult to handle, d(88%) 9but when 2 players play against two friends, you just can't stop practicing until you've won at least once. b4. Gauntlet II: 9It's not everybody's taste, but I always liked this b(84%) 9game, even on the good ol' 64. With 4 players just fabulous. d5. Kick Off II: 9We were never really able to handle this game d(62%) 9perfectly and had always lots of trouble playing with 4 players, because most of the time we spent searching for our own sprite. For Kick Off-pros it might just be wonderful. It's a shame Sensible Soccer does not support a 4-player-interface!! b6. Tank Attack: 9This one looks like a low-budget game. Grafix are b(34%) 9not too bad, but the game's not too original. You just play it 5 minutes and then you have enough. Better play the Top-Five! 3More games to come: Gem'Z (previews look like a Pengo/Dynablaster-mix) fBest datalink-games: -------------------- 9Now this was really hard to decide as I would place 5 games on the first place, but then these were my final favourites: d1. Lotus Esprit II: 9This game is just a classic and deserves well the d(95%) 9first rank. It allows 4 players to race against one another, so it really is great fun. b2. Stunt Car Racer: 9Geoff Crammond's masterpiece is too spectacular b(94%) 9not to be placed in the top-threes. Simply the fact that only 2 players can start simultanously prevents this great game from the very top of the chart. d3. F-16 Falcon: 9Spectrum Holobyte's all-time-classic is really d(92%) 9great fun playing against a skilled friend. Watch out for his sidewinders at 9 o'clock.... bPopulous I/II: 9Bullfrog's "who-doesn't-know-it?" needs no further b(92%) 9comment. It's just innovative as hell! (Or heaven?) dVroom!: 9Fast grafix and good gameplay are the qualities of d(92%) 9this game developed by a French software-team. Great fun! b6. RVF Honda: 9This game needs some practicing until you know how b(90%) 9to handle, but then.... excellent. d7. Powermonger: 9Also from Bullfrog, but a bit too much things d(87%) 9you have too look after. But still good for long nights.... bBattle Chess: 9Great for all chess-fans. The fabulous animations b(87%) 9just let your emotions explode.... d9. Hard Drivin' II: 9If this game wouldn't be a bit too slow, it would d(79%) 9well deserve a place in the top five. It's enter- taining anyway. With turbocards, this game gains easily 10%. b10. Flightsimulator II: 9Sublogic's oldie is not as stunning as S.H.'s b(72%) 9Falcon. Better grab the top-three-bird! d11. Powerdrome: 9It's a shame the control of your ship is a total d(47%) 9catastrophe. A very innovative idea, but slow code. Hope EOA releases PD 2 one day! The shit-handling destroys the whole game. Vroom! or Lotus are better. b12. Firepower: 9This game is a bit old and doesn't make too much b(35%) 9fun. The gameplay is just too simple. 3Games I couldn't test yet: Wild Wheels, Robosports, Global Effect. 9If you consider buying a 4-player-interface (to be placed at the backside of your computer; serial-port), compare the prices carefully. The same thing is to say about datalink-cables (FF). In some stores these rare things just cost too much. I bought the interface (Microdeal) for 19 German marks (about 12 US dollars) and a 2-meters-cable for 15 sFr (about 13$). You don't get the interface everywhere in Europe. I recommend to order it from Germany. It's worth it. And if you want datalink cables longer than 2 metres you'll be able to get up to additional 7-metres-long cables (FM) in most stores. But be careful! If your cable is longer than about 20 metres the transmission might not work properly... Enjoy it!×
