1¶212ąTHE ATACOM SHOW 31in Juvisy (France) 12, 13, 14th of September 1992. 35by Alex / Movement a1Atacom 2is an association which doesn't produce any demos but tries to regroup talented people under the Atacom Club. For the year 1992 they proposed us a professional meeting in Juvisy sur Orge (10 min south of Paris). The big room near the townhall was devided in boxes for each exposants. Many associations and new graphic and video production companies like Atelier Numerique, Manor, Volumn, Atelcom, Someware, etc. were present there. And PD associations like aO.R.I.O.N. 2Diffusions with three Amigas and their catalogues were selling many discs. Also sales with bBUS+ 2showing a poor Amiga 600 opened and the videocard AVideo 12 a(212 bits, 4096 colors in hires mode compatible with all kind of software, or video devices on AMIGA 500,2000, and 3000a)2. bBUS+ 2also showed the AVideo 24 (24 bits, 16 billion colors on Amiga 2000 or 3000. Avancee presented new ray tracing softwares (sells "Real 3D" in France). In fact the most interesting parts of this show were the conferences given by some guest stars like bF. Boulier a(an infographist)2, wellknown on amiga for his cycling animations especially made for Commodore, and sold in every PD company. bFrancois Lionet a(the creator of the AMOS language and all its configuration) 2was there, too. He had all the time a crowd around him. In fact, Francois Lionet is a very kind, always smiling person. His fame didn't make him arrogant or closed. He was here to present athe new AMOS version: AMOS PRO. 2There were big improvements all in all. The design is totally changed, amore than 750 functions2, new assembler functions, improved requester... The AMOS PRO was released the 28th September 1992 in England, and one month later in France. The organization of this show was quite good and not comparable with possible organizations of scene freaks' meetings. But saturday the 12th, 1500 persons came to this show, among them scene freaks from Silents FR, Anarchy Melon Dezign, Delight, etc. Sunday, less people but recognizable faces as guys from Intense, from Willow, Baby / Majic 12, 7th Eye / Alliance Design, Enzo / Symbiosis, etc. 65C O M P E T I T I O N S 21There was a competition, more purposed on graphic productions. In fact there was a demo competition, but organizers wanted them to be totally compatible with all Amiga versions and multitask. A special prize of 400$ was given for a production said to be special "The Imprint". It was simply a slide of raytraced and digitized pictures. A nice animation was presented on a big screen in the center of the room: a laser was making 3D animated shapes like 3D sinusscrolling, animated faces, etc. 65N E W S 61HARD FOR THE AMIGA PRESENTED AT THE ATACOM SHOW 42THE DMI FLOPTICAL DRIVE 20 MB: a1Digital Micronics 2presented a hi-tech magneto-optical drive for Amiga, but also Mac, PC, Unix compatible. The DMI Floptical drive. The discs for this drive are similar in the shape, with traditional 3,5" floppy discs, but can stock more than 20 Mb of datas (less than 2$ the Mb). With the DMI Floptical drive was provided a SCSI controler and a 20 Mb diskette. Sure, the DMI Floptical works with all applications and hardware on Amiga like Amiback, Quaterback, CrossDOS, and A-Max. If you have important archiving to do, this is a good drive to think about. The optical disk DMI 128 is like a hard disk but the Mb cost is at 1 $ on this one. The drive DMI 128 needs the SCSI controller, like its little brother and a 128 Mb disk.
